A Shot on Goal?

We scored 9 in our opening two games.
Now we look impotent, inept and clueless. For the second game in a row we've not created a chance of note.
Our game vs. Wolves is up to the 75th minute. We've not registered so much as a single shot on goal and we don't look like making one.

Not sure if you’ve noticed, but there’s been quite a change in the squad since the first two games?

Well it's a cup.game and they're a league above us.
But it was the exact same issue against Sunderland.
Playing badly happens, yes.
But to go two whole games with barely registering a single chance is a massive failure.

Any of our players who've played these last two games would challenge the first team of any other side in the Championship.
Most would walk into the vast majority of sides.
And yet we've gone two whole games without registering a meaningful effort on goal.
That goes well beyond the sale of players. You guys can play faux naif about it all you like but it's a distinct issue to the player sales.

I've witnessed plenty of bad football in my life, including plenty of bad Burnley sides.
I've seen good players have stinkers and I've seen woeful sides play woefully.
But the only time in my entire life that I can remember watching such lifeless football with so few chances created -ober two whole games- was Southgate's England.

It may be a different team but that is what we have left so it is a worry
We will be playing a weaker team now for rest of season so if we can’t score we are going to struggle

Most of our players get into the majority of championship first teams.
It's petty thinking that says, "I'll disagree with this observation because I don't like who is saying it."
Two whole games without so much as a chance created.
Ignore it or wave it away if you like. But the truth is that even poor sides should register a chance or two on goal.
This is a hideous stat and if it doesn't get fixed immediately it will see us in big trouble.

"Makeshift" yes.
But still packed with players who would walk into nearly any other team in our division.
Anyone who isn't worried about this development is delusional, being petty minded or simple.

We just fielded a team of strangers and kids sprinkled with a few who don’t want to be here.
That side would get relegated.

I don't think these players lack ability. Bit if we play like we have the last two games throughout the season we might be facing a relegation battle.
We really need to hope and pray Parker has the character to shape them into a coherent team and to fix the obvious faults we've seen over the last two games.

Calm, Rowls. Saturday was down to the turmoil within the club. Tonight was down to a team of strangers playing a PL team.
We might lose on Saturday and I wouldn’t be happy but it’s a long season so give them time to bed in and see what that brings.
PS. I still disagree with your politics.xx

There's nothing "egotistic" about what I've posted at all.
We haven't mustered a single shot on goal in 90 minutes today and we managed one powder puff effort against Sunderland.
As Kompany showed us, it's one thing to do well when you have better players and another thing entirely to be competitive when the opposition have players or equal or better quality.
In four short games, Parker seems to have a lot of the managerial faults that became apparent last season.
It's not just a failure to create chances or register even a single shot in goal either.
There's been plenty of passing around our own box, losing the ball and getting into trouble of our own making.
And there's the zonal marking too.
Hopefully it's a blip but the last two games aren't something that can wished away.
Unless big changes in our play are made, we could be in deep trouble.
I think we should have the talent in our squad (even with the fire sale) to at least push for promotion.
But if we play like we have the last two games, we might even find ourselves in a relegation fight.

I'd suggest applying some context to the situation that our manager has found himself in.

How do you know whether they have any ability or not ?
Genuine question how many times have you seen half of that team play before ?

No, I didn't.
The two posters who fit that category are plain to see on this thread.
We all know there are extenuating circumstances but we either deal with or we don't.
The last two performances haven't dealt with it.
Zero shots on goal -pretty much twice in a row- is a BIG problem if it isn't rectified and it's not something that can be completely explained away by the fire sale.

Unless I misread your post, Hladky, Humphreys, Worrall and Brownhill walk into any side at this level.
I suspect most of the others wouldn't be turned down as, at worst, squad players either.

Hladky - played in a promotion side last season
Worrall - promoted a few years ago
McNally - done well in this division for two years
Massengo - was dictating matches in this league 2-3 years ago for Bristol and we payed £8million for him
Mejbri - similar to Massengo with Birmingham.
Brownhill - no comment necessary. We know he can do it.
There's plenty of young lads in our side but they all have promise.
If we don't even have a shot on goal for two games running then it's a BIG problem.
I've seen sides managed by Stan with barely a tenth of the talent at Parker's disposal put up better showings than we've had over the past two games.
It's not going to be enough if we have a manager who can only do well if they have the resources to 'outgun' the opposition with talent. That might work if you're Man Utd or Bayern Munich but at Burnley it will spell disaster.
Anyway, let's hope Parker has it in him.
I'm off to bed! Night night!

You did.
The lack of attacking quality can be explained by what the fire sale
has left us with. Take a look at our front three tonight. A right back who is new to the country playing on the left wing. A 35 year old striker trying to play the lone front man role up against Premier League quality centre backs. And then a target man type striker who looks way off the standard, but also new to the country, playing on the right wing.
We didn't have any ability to beat a man one vs one, put a ball in behind for someone with pace to run on to, or to make the ball stick up front using our striker.
