My opinion on Joe Worrall and Training Ground.

Post by EveT1991 » Fri Aug 30, 2024 2:54 pm

Hello everyone I'm a Forest fan but you recently got Joe Worrall from Forest and I want to tell you about him and what he was like at Forest. Joe was fantastic at Forest he was fantastic in promotion season and at the start of last season his uncle died and he played a match 4 days after the death of his uncle against Chelsea and he was immense. I have met Joe Worrall 5 times he signed ny drawings I drew of him (I draw pictures to help me with my mental health) and he knows who I am. I have another question can people wait outside the Burnley training ground? If they can I would love to try and meet Joe again because I have 2 old Forest programmes for him to sign.

Yes, young fans wait outside and the players generally stop for a chat and pics.

You will be able to draw the fabulous Gawthorpe Hall while you wait.

Yes, you are allowed to wait outside the barrier at the training ground. There will be security at the barrier, but they usually let you know what is happening and sometimes they give you a brew.

Thanks for taking the time to tell us about Joe. I think on the whole us Burnley fans are happy with the signing. We need a leader and every team needs a few players in it who give absolutely everything to the cause - it sounds like that’s Joe Worral.
Good luck with getting your programmes signed.

Hi Eve

There's a very long driveway leading into the Burnley training ground which is also a public footpath. There's nothing to stop people waiting around outside until it becomes private property.

From what I hear of the guy I think Joe Worrall would certainly stop if he saw you but it would be a case of him spotting you (and you spotting him, potentially through a windscreen) beforehand.

Burnley's training ground is in the grounds of Gawthorpe Hall and accessed via Stockbridge Drive. Here it is on Google Maps:

There is a free car park right outside the training ground. 100 yards before the Gawthorpe Hall.

Very welcome to the Burnley forum Eve. Glad to hear what you said about Worrall. We're hoping he makes as good an impression with us as he has with you.

The Burnley training ground has lovely surroundings and there's a few nice walks around there if you want to have a look around. It should be easy enough to meet Joe when he's leaving the training ground, particularly if he recognises you. Sure he will enjoy seeing a familiar face.

All the best.

I do have a genuine question though. (Not just to Eve). Do players normally sign other clubs items? I always thought it was massively frowned upon and considered bad luck?

I recall the very sad story now.

"Joe Worrall hailed his uncle 'a true hero' following his tragic passing last week.
Sergeant Graham Saville, a response officer based at Newark Police Station, sadly died after being hit by a train while trying to rescue a man in distress.
The 46-year-old was a father of two and a close member of the Nottingham Forest captain's family, with Nottinghamshire Police hailing him as 'a brave and selfless' man.

Despite the shock and grief that Worrall and his family endured, the 26-year-old still summoned the strength to lead his club out in the Premier League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the weekend - a clash they won 2-1 in a huge boost for their season's ambitions."

Welcome Eve, I noticed on your Twitter page that you're doing a fund raising event for Footprints which is a Nottingham based charity which transforms the lives of children living with mobility and communication difficulties . We're a generous bunch on here, so I'm sure a few quid will come your way for this worthy cause

Hmmmmmm I hadn't thought about it but maybe there is, ever so slightly.

Maybe there's a few similarities here and there but there's a whole different dialect to each of them too.

I've always preferred the Burnley accent. It's so unique and local just to the town, rather than a wide region. I like that.

One thing's for sure - well, for me anyway - the North Midlands accents are far closer to a "Northern" accent than they are to West Midlands or Leicester.

If you've seen "Dead Man's Shoes", featuring mainly non-professional actors from Matlock, they sound like Northerners to me.

Yes, it's definitely much more of "northern" style accent than a southern one.

The Nottingham accent isn't easily recognized outside the area and even harder to copy.

Matlock is, I think, Derbyshire and we're almost into south yarkshire with the accents there.

Hi Eve,

Lovely post.

Yes, if you go to Gawthorpe training ground, there’s a car park just outside, go to the security cabin (they’re very friendly) and tell them who you’re waiting for. They’ll tell you where to wait and probably tell Joe you’re waiting for him too.

There’s a lovely hall there and some nice walks too.

Good luck, hope you get them signed. Let us know how you get on.

I'm from Scarborough and I was born in Scarborough so I'm a Yorkshire girl. My Mum, my Dad, my older sister and my 2 older brothers and my Grandad (my dad's dad) and my Aunty (dad's sister) and another aunty (mum's sister) and my mum's cousins and two of my cousins on my mum's side were all born in Nottingham. Before my Nana got dementia and died she lived in a flat which was 15/20 minutes drive into the city centre and I would go visit her alot. Me and one of my older brothers and one of my Mum's older brothers support Nottingham Forest and my Dad, older brother, younger brother (he was born in Boston because when I was 9 months old to 2 years and 2 months we lived in Lincolnshire) and my Grandad support Notts County.

I think he would sign my items Joe knows who I am its only a couple of old programmes one with a interview he did something else about him. I might draw a new picture of him in October playing for Burnley.

Completely agree. Eve can be an honorary claret now :D

Hopefully the club see this thread and can arrange for Eve to meet Joe at the training ground and can get her a Worrall shirt to do her run in.

You are going to have to find a claret colouring pencil!

In 1982 we had a couple of fans who supported players rather then clubs. When the player changed clubs they would follow the new club.

One of them was Kevin Reeves who was a really talented player. The fellow that supported him came from the same village as Kevin and he saw him at Norwich, Bournemouth, Manchester City and Burnley.

The other followed Gerry Gow. He was a good player but, shall we say, not everyone's favourite! He played for Bristol City, Manchester City, Rotherham and Burnley. I don't know why he was a fan of his.

What they did when the players retired I don't know.

Thankyou for making me feel welcome everyone.
Hello Eve,

The philosophy of the UTC editor has always been for this forum to be open to everybody provided they comply with the standard rules concerning forums. We have had a few people come on here stating the club the follow. Personally, I think it enhances this forum to have fans from other clubs IF they respect the forum and our club. And it is up to us to respect them.

It makes life better when people can gather together and share opinions, experiences.

On UTC we share joy and sorrow. People who ask for advice especially concerning illness - there's a thread going at the moment - will always get it.

You have been made to feel welcome because that's the way it should be.

You have brought a lot to us in such a short space of time!

Take care Eve,

ecc

Thanks for sharing the drawings Eve - they're great!

Hope you get to draw Joe celebrating a goal or two when he's wearing the Burnley shirt soon.

Great drawings Eve. I am not much of an artist myself, but I assume you enjoy drawing and it brings you happiness, so keep on creating your art :D Joe Worrall is lucky to have fans like you following him.

All the best and welcome to the forum.

Even though I'm a Nottingham Forest fan when I was age 9-14 (I'm 33 now I look about 20 or 21) David Beckham was my favourite ever England player and I use to want him to adopt me I would still love to meet David Beckham in the future. Im a fan of Joe Lolley who played for Forest but he is in Australia and I can't go to Australia. I also have autism and I love meeting famous people like Emmerdale cast and I finally got to meet one of my favourite actresses I have wanted to meet for years. The actress who played Tracy Beaker is staring in pantomime in York in December and I'm hoping to meet her.

Hi Eve. I hope you get to meet the Tracy Beaker actress. One of my daughters really enjoyed reading the books. My wife says she would also like to be adopted by David Beckham.

Hi Eve, welcome aboard! I'm terrible at drawing myself but I like yours -- they seem to capture the moments well! As for Joe Worrall, I think he'll quickly become a fan favourite here at Burnley. All the best!
