James Trafford
Looks like he's still with us.
I really hope he can step up now and prove his potential.
I also hope all BFC fans get right behind the lad.

Time for all of us to knuckle down now, create a siege mentality and show the
rest of the division just what BFC is all about. Let's take it by storm
Starting tomorrow - all for one and one for all.

It's the nature of the modern game.
For all we know they may all be...
In the meantime, be happy with what we have.

Re: James Trafford
one penalty save and he will become accepted....especially if its today and we win 1-0!!
Re: James Trafford
Very happy Trafford is still with us.
Re: James Trafford
I think some forget that he was “ thrown under the bus” by Kompany. He’s still a young man learning the game. He could prove to be a real prospect. Although at the time I wanted Muric back in goal I still think there’s more to come from Trafford. If he puts in some good performances over the next few months who’s to say where it will take him. He’s still with us so let’s give him all the support we can.

Let's gets behind him. There'll be a few more mistakes in there but we have to keep supporting him. No chanting for the other keeper when he drops a clanger this year!

Re: James Trafford
Trafford was given the most difficult starts with those games against Man City and Spurs and struggled for confidence after that. The fact that crowd favourite Muric was dropped after promotion meant that Trafford was a divisive figure in the eyes of fans.
We’ve got to get 100% behind him otherwise we might as well support the opposing teams. UTC

Re: James Trafford
There's a very good keeper in there, but they will target him today, especially that giant new striker they've got. We need to fully protect him.
Re: James Trafford
It's the managers duty to pick the best players available. If a player is not performing and there's an alternative, the manager has to make the change.I don't see why Trafford should be exempt from this. This season ,unlike last,he will be facing much weaker opposition, with a much stronger defence (relative to last season)so there is no "throwing under the bus" arguement. If he keeps making mistakes, unsettling the defence, changes must be made and not wait 28 games to do it.

Re: James Trafford
Either by design or accident he is still with us. This is the level he should be playing at as he develops. I can think of no finer Club to help him do this. The goalie we bought from Ipswich should be good enough to keep him on his toes this season

I have a good feeling about Trafford and it starts today. Get behind the lad. Sure he has his weaknesses but there is a good keeper in there. We all have a part to play.

He’s already an improvement on last season. Never been a problem with his shot stopping, it’s the domination of his box that let him down. Now he appears to be punching instead of catching he’ll be fine.

Re: James Trafford
He's only just turned 21 which is extremely young for first team footy, are there any other keepers his age in the top 2 divisions ? I don't know the answer to that btw!
Re: James Trafford
No but there isn't any others over hyped like him either, without the hype would he be playing first team football in the championship?Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 4:25 pmHe's only just turned 21 which is extremely young for first team footy, are there any other keepers his age in the top 2 divisions ? He certainly isn't the best keeper at our club currently.

Re: James Trafford
He made 1 save. 1 which was fired straight at him
Positionally was off it again and his distribution is woeful, nearly gave away a goal in the first couple of mins.
Apart from that had nothing to do. That’s not the sign of a good goalkeeper having “moments” in a game with not much to do.
Hes a hype job

He still had to make the save, though and to be fair he’s always been a good shot stopper.Shaggy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 4:36 pmHe made 1 save. 1 which was fired straight at him

I’ll also forgive him for giving the ball away in the first minute. Probably down to being unsettled this week and nerves.
Re: James Trafford
It was right at him. It’s one which you would expect a keeper to make.
It was a huge boo-boo from him again. It keeps happening.

Hopefully he will go to Newcastle in January for a ridiculous fee and that’s the end of it.
Re: James Trafford
He looks and plays, like he dosnt want to be here,he looks so unhappy, you can see it in his face, just going through the motions, feel sorry for him, thanks to his mentor,Vinnie!
Re: James Trafford
No it looks like he's nervous.
He's so young (for a goal keeper) and so nervous.
He knows the majority of the Burnley fans doubt him, he's got alot in his shoulders. Can't blame the lad fot being scared/focused. He's far from the finished project but he's nervous in the mean time, the criticism doesn't help him.
Re: James Trafford
He seems calm enough for the England under 21 s,I wander why ?

Re: James Trafford
I can't believe he didn't catch the strike for the Rovers goal then dribble it all the way up the other end before slamming it into the top corner from 40 yards. Other than his god awful pass early doors he did nothing wrong

Re: James Trafford
The issue Trafford now has with SOME fans is that they still see his last years performance as the barometer of how good they think he is.
Trafford WILL prove to be a top championship keeper this year. It's what he needs as his development and today he did very little wrong.
I was critical of him when we had Muric in the squad. I think this season is exactly the progression and experience he needs.

Having watched Trafford closely over the premier season and the matches this season
He has ability … but …. And its a big but … be needs a loan to either another championship club or league 1. And he needs to work on his concentration … and his positioning … coached by a really good goalkeeping coach. Hes not ready for top championship and def not premier league.

I decided to stick with him until he screwed up. It lasted about 20 seconds !!!when he gifted it to a rovers player who should have scored
Re: James Trafford
I did wonder about that watching the game today. Watched the highlights though and it turns out he was only a couple of yards off his line for the goal. Just one of those that no keeper would save.

Minus the lazy clearance in the first 30 seconds, Trafford didn’t put a foot wrong today, he isn’t going to be asked to play out from the back in every action this season and he will improve throughout the season.

Are we going to have this every game. I don't think I've ever seen a player, particular of his age, get so much of a spotlight on every single error he makes, even if it has nothing to do with thr outcome of the game.

The lad needs some love and unconditional support. I want to see him come out at the start of the game and the start of the second half with his head held high, clapping the supporters behind his goal, which I'm sure would then be reciprocated. Head up, chest out, big smile. He also needs someone at the club spending time with him, to boost his confidence.

Don't the club employ a 'sports counsellor' or any counsellor. In this day and age, if they don't, it's an oversight.
Re: James Trafford
described on sky commentary the goal was a piece of individual brilliance, UTC posters have tried to find fault with 2 or 3 players Claret players for this. Madness
