Hysteria
I'm sure I wasn't the only one who bemusedly read this board and social media in the past week and wondered why every shyster's rumours from Twitter were being taken as gospel.
Some posters were furious about our whole team being sold, others were giving players stick for wanting out based on the most unbelievable of rumours.
There were countless posts about the owners asset stripping and being on their way out together with veiled threats about them going to the match tomorrow.
It was all a bit bizarre and extreme.

Re: Hysteria
It wasn't really hysteria the speed people were leaving without any tangible signs of any incomings some people were concerned. I still wouldn't spin it by any stretch as a good transfer window with substantial drop offs in quality & experimenting with the unknown. That said it's certainly looking a lot better than it was a couple of days ago.aggi wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:18 amI'm sure I wasn't the only one who bemusedly read this board and social media in the past week and wondered why every shyster's rumours from Twitter were being taken as gospel.

Re: Hysteria
Surely you can remember the inadequate squad Parker selected for the Sunderland game? And Brownhill’s post-match comments about the state of the dressing room and how players didn’t know if they were coming or going? We look in a better place now, but at the time I believe the general reaction by most was justified, and certainly not hysteria.

There was justifiable concern about the number of player sales and this was evidently shared by both the manager and the players. The Sunderland starting XI was an absolute shocker.

One can only hope that the players who were looking for a move elsewhere put in behind them, knuckle down, don't sulk and give their all... Until January at least!Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:30 amSurely you can remember the inadequate squad Parker selected for the Sunderland game? Good championship side, nothing major but Foster will end up with 15/20 this season and Flemming/Browhill 10 a piece. Get the defence organised with Worrall, Esteve, Beyer when fit with Trafford behind and we will be right up there

Re: Hysteria
As a collective, when whipped into a frenzy, football fans can be hard work at times
Some of them have this unbelievable sense of entitlement
They believe the owners should be issuing statements over every little thing, that the fans deserve to know which players are being bid on, for how much etc
They detest the fact the club now does most of its transfers on the sly where possible, to avoid being ousted by another club
The thinly veiled threats to Pace etc were just outrageous, especially as the transfer window hadn’t even shut
Then we had the claims of asset stripping from people who clearly don’t have an effing clue as to what asset stripping is
We potentially did about £100 million in sales this window, something that’s never happened here before and potentially spent about £50 million (both amounts depend on clauses etc)
Huge amounts of players coming and going and if anything the club should be applauded for getting through all that
Can’t wait for the January window

Still people try to excuse their behaviour by saying such trite comments that it’s been a poor window, we’ve lost quality, too many loans etc. with Berge being the exception (jury is out on Odonert being consistent enough) we have upgraded in every area.

Re: Hysteria
The concern about the team was justified earlier in the week, although we’ve managed to end up in a decent enough position.
The way people jumped on any rumour to pile into some players was telling and extremely bizarre.
Some of the stuff written about the owners, and allowed to remain, was beneath contempt. I understand people don’t like them and the way the takeover happened but they should really take a look at themselves.

I think it feels far worse on here, than say Twitter etc, because we see the same posters, or at least their usernames, all the time and they are part of the UTC furniture. Some of them are on here for 18 hours a day pouring out relentless negativity, year in, year out. It's like they have nothing else in their lives apart from wallowing in misery. You wouldn't sit near them if this forum was your local pub.

There were people glued to the transfer thread, hitting refresh for what felt like an eternity. Scouring the internet for “sources” and passing it off as genuine information then getting their knickers in a twist and getting angry at others.
Mental. If people acted like that in real life, I would be referring them to the GP for mental health issues.

Re: Hysteria
As always the board will always bring out extremes.
I think a few fans were getting hysterical in the last week or so - but let’s be honest even the most ardent supporter of the owners would have been concerned seeing the teams we put out in the last 2 games and the way we played.
Add to this that we were selling multiple players every day and hardly any player escaped being linked to leave it was not a great time to say the least. I don’t think many fans or people in the game would have been surprised if SP would have walked away from the club.
Things are looking better today and there is some relief. On the other end of the scale from hysteria we also see a few extreme views judging the window as a 7 or 8 out of 10.
I think most fans are pretty balanced. Bit relieved we made a few signings - a couple of who look decent. But personally like many I suspect I don’t think this level of turnover of players is sustainable in any way. I have major doubts about the owners and the rest of the board and the way they go about things.
It’s the least excited I have felt about a derby in many many years but hopefully we win and SP pushes on with the team as I like him as a person and the way he has dealt with all of this. I’m not sure either Dyche nor VK could have dealt with it better.
I’m not hysterical or singing from the rooftop because we don’t have to name 2 keepers on the bench !!

We don’t know what has been going on behind the scenes but Brownhill made some interesting comments last weekend and the WhatsApp cock up may have a residual effect on the dressing room for those players left here
Brownhill Foster Benson Trafford Massengo Koleosko Tresor have all been linked with moves away and who of those wanted out and been denied it
Some s**t sticks and leaves a stink after it has gone
Only time will tell but I think SP has a hell of a man management job on his hands over the next few months.

Re: Hysteria
Since the Sunderland squad was announced the hyperbole and patheticness reached new heights on this board with some of the more sensible posters seeming to lose their marbles
We're a striker and a backup fullback short of it being an excellent window and whilst goals and how the new players integrate is a worry you'd have to fancy parker getting this team up
Ramsey and Beyer to come back and a couple of key signings in Jan could make the difference.
Might struggle today and if we do expect the same wallys on here to get over excited but once we've had the international break to consolidate I'm confident of another successful season

Re: Hysteria
There was some hysteria, and the way people turned on individual players was stupid and disgusting. I think on here the player who took the most flack for leaving was Lyle Foster who didn't actually leave.
The window was shite though, and run in the interest of profit above the interest of the club. This is something we need to get used to, but not something we need to accept.

Re: Hysteria
Interest of profit or interest of recouping on last years overspend by Kompany and undoing some of the mess he made/left? I would argue profit was the result on the individual investments but the causation was to ensure financial stability.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 9:54 amThere was some hysteria, and the way people turned on individual players was stupid and disgusting. Re: Hysteria
I’ve said for some time that I believe the owners are prioritising trading players for profit above on-pitch success, and nothing I saw since made me think otherwise. Until I suppose the last few days where we seem to have had a change of strategy in the profile of player we’ve targeted - but part of that is down to us being light on homegrown players and not having a great deal of finance to speculate.
I still think that since ALK bought the club it is clear that their transfers have been profit-driven above any sort of long term strategy to build a successful team.
Re: Hysteria
Yes last week was absolutely crazy but the season starts again today so let's get behind the lads whoever they are and as them two guys from Manchester who've been on the tele all week keep telling us " Don't Look Back in Anger".

Re: Hysteria
Have to point out that a year ago you'd have been equally dismissive of the idea that there was an overspend. And point out the overspend was by Pace, not Kompany.
There is no reason to believe Pace is interested in undoing mess rather than profit regardless.

What's the mess, we got relegated and we've now got a better squad than we had when we finished the 22/23 season.
Only big negative is Kompany bailing on us but you can't control that.

Although I am beginning to feel that negative is slowly turning into a positive.
The transfer dealings in the last 2 years have been beyond ridiculous and unsustainable which has been highlighted in the last few weeks.
I doubt Kompany would have been able to manage the recent upheaval in such an effective manner.
It was a much bigger and multi faceted job than the previous relegation.
On top of that we now have a basis of a homegrown squad which was also becoming an issue.

For every hysterical poster there was one poster holding Mr Pace up as some sort of deity.
There are always going to be fans at each end of the spectrum. I’m not sure what the multiple posts either expressing concerns, criticising the board or criticising what other thans feel are particular useful though.

Re: Hysteria
Hopefully the lesson will be don't believe everything you read on the internet and, if you do, don't abuse people on the basis of that made up stuff.
Something like 7 players were written off as leaving who are still here. It was crazy.
It looked like Pace was there today, as you'd expect, despite the sterling attempts of some people "just asking questions".

I said the same before the window shut. It was pretty obvious the owners weren't selling everyone, not signing anyone, asset stripping the club and selling up.
Re: Hysteria
At one stage you couldn't balme anyone for thinking the owners were asset stripping the club. There was massive disappointment at some of the sales from ardent life long fans. They were very concerned. As was the manager. Frankly I think your post was not necessary.aggi wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:18 amI'm sure I wasn't the only one who bemusedly read this board and social media in the past week and wondered why every shyster's rumours from Twitter were being taken as gospel.

Re: Hysteria
We have the same behaviour every transfer window by people who still can't work out that there will be days that don't look very good, but judgement should only be made when the window shuts. The Sunderland game match squad was an extreme case in point, but also not the first time we've had 2 keepers on the bench.
It is just the same when we have a bad result, the reaction is always an extreme negative, even if the game before was a good result.
Having said that I'm very pleased to the reaction to today's game, lots of fans looking at the positives, even though they sometimes end the post with an unnecessary negative. Some habits are hard to shake, but generally today's response and reaction to the game has been excellent.
I felt all the new guys had good games, with some good skills. When they get to know each other better, I feel we'll be seeing a lot of goals th8s season. Today we played, off the cuff. Scott now has a difficult job in deciding how to rebalance the squad, or at least the starting eleven, whentrying to include Cullen and Flemming.
