Crucial free kick

Why on earth Brownhill is ever let near a free kick in a game is beyond comprehension.

He must be bloody amazing in training.

Or just pulling rank.

No idea. It really, really, really needs to stop.

It’s not funny anymore.

Someone needs to have a word with Parker. He never gets one on target.

Those little things over a season (remember Twine’s, or a crucial one I remember JBG hitting). They make the difference over the course of a season.

We really need to find a dead ball taker.

nobody expected him to hit the target but Benson's was even worse

That’s true

Has Brownhill ever hit the target though?

I dont think I've ever seen him not put it in the stands, he must be class in training

Selling Twine wasn't smart. He'd have been really useful in a game like that and not just for his set pieces.

Think Flemming would do better, couldn't do much worse.

The free kick at the end was ridiculous. As soon as he stepped up you knew it would end up being curled into the stand. He had two players to the right of him free he could have squared it to.

Shocking from Benson that... It was a superb angle as well to put the ball into the box, not sure why Pires wasn't stood over it after his set pieces @ Luton?

Just what we said doug and that was before he took it. I can’t believe that we haven’t got anyone better to take the free kicks. Brownhill’s have certainly not improved over the last three seasons.

on a side note, I thought browny showed the new lads what was required today especially in the first half, very pleased we didn't sell him.

This is exactly my point. It was the last kick of the game and he was allowed to hammer it into the top of the Cricketfield (Beehole) as usual.

I think Pires must have it written in to his contract to take corners and free kicks too. Hopefully work can be done during the international break as today (apart from Anthony’s cross for the goal) most dead balls were poor.

Totally agree.

Every good tam has a good set piece taker. We need to work ours out and the answer is not Josh Brownhill.

I think it was Parker's choice. I saw this happen. Trafford wanted to come for the set piece and Parker called him over and spoke to him, Trafford went forward then put his arm around Josh and relayed whatever Parker had said.

Obviously not the best call he has made so far :D

I thought Brownhill was excellent today........apart from that free kick.

Sarmiento scored a few from distance for Ipswich last year and he was next to Brownhill. As someone else said he must have pulled rank but enough is enough now Josh.

Brownhill has been utterly appalling for years with direct free kicks. We ALL know that, but obviously SP didn't! Well he bloody does now and if Brownhill is anywhere near the ball in future I'll be amazed!!

There were 10 players with a better chance of being a hero out there at that moment and we all knew it!

I particularly liked the telling of both he and Worrall gave to Koleosho after he’d reacted and got a booking.

Probably got closer than Bensons minutes earlier

Three shots in good positions miles over the bar in the last 5 mins. A little over anxious but keep creating those opportunities Clarets

Same here. On that point, both Kolesoho and Foster need to cut that out of their game - it will cost us in games

Edit - have a listen to the Worrall post match interview I posted

After Benson's awful free kick I didn't begrudge him taking it. (I love Benson wrightly or wrongly too)

Today I just feel like they all had free reign to do what they want, I feel we had so many chances to whip into the box. It felt like after the Wolves game Parker said shoot, but that doesn't cover up creating chances/getting it into the box.

First half, fk me they couldn't handle us.. but even so getting it into actual dangerous areas wasn't offen.

He would have been kicked off the pitch if he’d been
Playing today. You can’t play him on the off chance you get a free kick!!

I literally said not just for his set pieces. He's a creator and would have been trying to find some pockets of space in a packed defence. He's also good at shooting from range which becomes a good asset when the opposition is sat so deep

How many assists and non free kick goals did he score for us? He’s lightweight and would have crumbled today.

Pires’ crosses hardly reached their intended targets today.

He looked like he couldn’t kick the ball hard enough.

Flemming took set pieces for Millwall
Hannibal room set pieces for Birmingham

Hannibal wouldn’t of been able to take that final set piece today because if we hadn’t of subbed him off, he would of been sent off

Time to go for a slash when we get a free kick close to the box.

It's been like that for some time though.

Could have been brought on, exactly for that scenario, a likely one in the circs of the game.

I expect him to hit the target, he's a professional footballer ffs.

I cringe everytime we balloon one. I couldn't care if the keeper saves it, that's his job, but not working him is criminal.

Who do we have for FK's around edge of the box now Larson, JBG , Twine and Zaroury have gone ? Options seem poor.

Brownhill - route 1 row z
Benson - if we get them in the 2 mins he's on the pitch, though was a shocker on Sat

Anyone seen Pires whip one in?

What about any of the latest signings (must admit, I had seen nothing of much of the Flemming lad apart from YouTube)
