Any news ? Esteve went off holding his hamstring and Benson pulled something as usual.

Esteve will be missed if he's out. Benson, not likely to ever make another squad.

Saw Benson come out of the ground yesterday on crutches. Esteve walked out fine and walked upto Belverdere Road so hopefully nothing too serious for him

Not sure why an ever increasing number of our fans are seemingly happy to stick the boot into Benson, to be honest.
I seem to remember Gudmundsson receiving the same criticism whenever he was injured.

Yep the comments on Benson are distasteful at best. He clearly tried to continue and couldn't even put his foot down.
His style of play attracts tackles and Blackburn were very aggressive, probably overly so, so it's strange that our own fans are sticking the boot in as well.

He believes his own hype, he’s a one trick (cut in and shoot) pony that gives up whenever it gets hard and a bit of heart and commitment is required. He’s a flat track bully and has been found out.

A one trick pony?
Not only did he score some terrific goals for us in our promotion season, he created more than a few as well. One of the best seasons from a winger I can remember.
He’s never going to be a 90 minute player but it’s inevitable he’s rusty given he’s hardly played for twelve months.

2 years ago playing in a dominant team. There’s a reason he didn’t play last year and it’s down to him, no “agenda”.

You can’t prove you’re correct about a lot of what you said so pointless going down that road.
For a player that won us the title at Ewood and obviously has an injury that’s not going away, my opinion is that I don’t agree he believes his own hype and being a flat track bully …. We may never know as he didn’t have the chance although he very nearly scored against United in the short opportunity he had

It was definitely his hamstring but he tried to play on suggesting it wasn't a tear or a fully pulled muscle.
Good to read he was seen walking after the game but wouldn't be a surprise to if he was rested for a week given the nature of the injury.

He’s living on former glory playing in a dominant team. That’s a flat track bully. His positive statistical contribution last season was 0.06. Which was reflected in his performance yesterday.

If you think he just cut in and tried to shoot yesterday you didn’t watch the game.

Yes he missed a free kick ie. Not even on target. Underhit a pass that put Esteve under pressure leading to the hamstring issue and didn’t put one successful cross in(leading to a goal scoring opportunity). What do you think he did?

The negativity directed at some of our players makes me wonder whether these posters are true Burnley fans.
And this directed at the player whose goal won us the title at Deadwood!

So we just blow smoke up his ass and laud him as the greatest since Glen Little!! The man got a standing ovation when he came on and theirs people saying “he just needs to feel wanted”!! Just because he scored the goal at Deadwood two years ago doesn’t give him (it might come as a surprise) a free pass forever, he’s contributed nothing since.

There was a’fan’ near me yesterday who was angrily swearing calling our players f ing this and that every time a pass or move did t go just how he wanted it. He had serious anger issues and was an embarrassment. He was sat next to his Dad who was similar.
I’m beginning to think he might post on this board. All players did their best in a team that has had little time together and some havn’t had many minutes. Perhaps give them a chance.

Can’t believe some of the criticism on here aimed at Benson. He’s had very few minutes on the pitch in well over 12 months and people expect him to come on near the end and be a world beater. Let’s give Parker the opportunity to work with him once he’s fit again and see where it takes us.

It would be interesting to check which of those people who are this week abusing Benson, were last month berating the Club's management over rumours that we might be selling MB, or indeed decrying the coaching staff a few months ago for their not selecting him. Unfortunately I don't have time to make that comparison, but experience tells me that those people who voice such knee jerk opinions are most often the ones prone to changing their opinions while also of course forgetting their previous ones.

Difficult to be critical of Benson because whatever else we were trying to break down a packed Rovers defence wasn’t working either and there is no doubt that he was hurt when he went off. When he came on everything seemed to go him and he was well marshalled.

No need to check, for £10m I already had the car ready. Unsurprisingly, when it came to the crunch, was there actually a bid from Leeds or anyone?

Even when we played United in the cup that season he was by far our best player on the pitch.
None of us know what has gone on with him last season - everybody is assuming that he is not a good trainer etc because of rumours and reports. Conveniently forgetting how badly a lot of the players like Benson were treated by VK last season after being fundamental to our promotion. We have seen with our eyes on the documentary and on the pitch last season how toxic things got with the coaches and VK and the lack of harmony in the team yet some people are quick to blame the players from the previous season who we all saw had fantastic team spirit and commitment.
I cannot remember in 50 years of supporting Burnley a single player who scored as many fantastic (and important) goals in a single season as Benson that season. I think it’s pretty weird to say the least for a player who did this and brought so much joy and memories to the supporters to be spoken about now like he is by some fans. “One trick pony” is an absolute joke of a description for what he did that year.

None of our players deserve a free pass but in Benson’s case, he’s played little football since our promotion season and he needs time. If he isn’t showing signs of improvement by the January transfer window, then maybe try and ship him out but until, get off his back.

Clearly gets the free pass for his Ewood cameo 2 years ago (and fairly to a certain extent). It's a shame people couldn't be even half as patient with Tresor, Redmond or Ramsay before writing them off.

Read what I said about no one deserving a free pass.
As for the other three, let them recover their fitness and then they can hopefully become integral members of our squad.

Benson basically won us the title with most of his goals being either crucial or late. Don't really get the flat track bully comments as that would mean most of his goals coming when we were already 2 or 3-0 up?
These stats from the last championship season are pretty revealing
https://fbref.com/en/squads/943e8050/20 ... nley-Stats
Top in goals scored per 90 mins
Second top goalscorer with 14 in all comps
As for Benson, he currently looks like a player who hasn't played properly in over a year unfortunately, let's hope he knuckles down and gets himself fit properly as he will be needed this season.

Yes, it’s everyone else’s fault. Stop living in the past, as I’ve said he was great in a team that dominated the league. A flat track bully is a sportsperson who dominates inferior opposition, but cannot beat top level opponents and Benson has done absolutely nothing to show otherwise.

Even if what you were saying was true about the flat track bully nonsense how do you explain that in the season we went up we played against 2 premier league teams (United and Bournemouth) and Benson was our best player against United and scored 2 goals against Bournemouth ?
Given he hardly got a chance last season how can you say he has done nothing to show otherwise when he clearly has in the 2 games against top level opponents he actually played against ?

Great support that.
How many minutes has the lad played this season?
It's inevitable, I suppose, that at any given time on this board, there'll be a whipping boy.
Virtually the whole squad hammered one by one last season and now Benson's this season's frontrunner.

Benson was frozen out for a season to obviously make room for one of Kompany's failed Premier league signings, nobwonder he looked a little rudty, all professionals will tell you that it's impossible to recreate match conditions in training. We need to support everyone in the team. Just think of the player before you boo or slag them off whilst playing they are human.
