Former Liverpool & Scotland centre-half of the 1960s, a colossus according to Bill Shankly - sadly passed away aged 86 after suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.
One of Shankly's big signings that got Liverpool moving forwards without a doubt, outstanding player.

When Shankly invited journalists into the dressing room to see just how big he was, Yeats was stood naked. Shanks just told the journos: "Look at the size of that."
I've just checked it and astonishingly he only played twice for Scotland.

Not that astonishing if he was competing with Billy McNeill.

I believe the phrase was " Gentlemen, he's a Colossus ! "
When Celtic won the European Cup in Lisbon in 1967, Shankly entered the changing room, embraced Jock Stein, and with tears in his eyes just whispered, " John, you're now an immortal ! " ...

The one I quoted was told by Yeats himself

I remember being at Anfield once in the late sixties stood on the Anfield Road End. Frank Casper took a shot at goal and Yeats headed it clear off the line but in doing so he nutted the crossbar and laid himself out. The trainer came on did the magic sponge trick and he carried on playing.
Did I dream this or can anyone else remember this?

R.I.P Ron.
One of the bedrocks of where Shankley wanted to take the emerging red half of Liverpool.
Always a sad feeling when one of these legends leaves us.

I believe Ron Yeats sited Andy Lochhead as one of his toughest opponents: no surprise..both as hard as nails.

Another with Alzheimers. Dreadful.
He was the captain who helped Mr Shankly create Liverpool as a top team, rather than a 2nd Div outfit.
That is legend status.
