Remember listening to that on the radio on a miserable Tuesday night.

Cannot imagine what it must have felt like to be a travelling Claret that night

Really interesting read is that.

Being top of the tree with the most 1 nils is a truly impressive stat.

I enjoyed all our goals.

We have had far worse days at Grimsby.

Great stuff this.

I had a look through the list to work out the most goals in one game and who played.
You can see this is Tranmere 13 Oldham 4.

So I looked up this game.
The record goals in one game was Tranmere 13 Oldham 4 on Boxing Day 1935.

Back then you played the same team on Christmas Day and then again on Boxing Day.
The day before Oldham beat Tranmere 4-1 !!!!!

In the record victory Bunny Bell scored 9 goals - a triple hat trick.

Great stats.

I only hope whoever did them got a computer to tell them the answers.

Looking at those stats, only Forest 1-1 and Birmingham losing 1-0 have had more of the same scoreline than us.

The program to collate those stats must have taken longer than CT's brew time ;)

I saw this yesterday too. The first result I looked for was 10-4 because I remember it well. Spurs beat Everton at White Hart Lane either in our championship winning season or maybe the one before.
The article also mentioned that the 'newest' score occurred on Boxing Day 1962. Again, I think it was an 11-0 scoreline involving Southport and?. That was the same day of incredible results in the old First Division such as us beating Man Utd 6-1, Rovers winning 2-8 at West Ham and Fulham scoring 10 against Ipswich(?).

Very interesting. I think there have been a few examples of festive games producing contrasting scoreline like that

Grimsby hold the record for the most 6-5 wins

I was at Grimsby on 29 October 2002 !
We had to check with each other on what the actual score was at half-time - 4-3 to Grimsby :o :o
We should have won the game on chances created

Despite the result, better than watching a dull 0-0 draw. I was gutted at the time, but it was an entertaining game of footy.

Sure I read somewhere we'd over 30 attempts on their goal that night against less than 15 from Grimsby.
