Re: James Earl Jones
RIP Darth Vader and Mufasa.
Despite the gap in years between them, I watched Star Wars and the Lion King at broadly the same time, about 10 years old, and Mufasa's death was more profound to me than Vader's revelation.

Probably not a kid born since 1980 who hasn’t heard his voice.

Re: James Earl Jones
He didn't, as I'm sure you already know. The guy who was The Green Cross Code man and toured schools was called Dave Prowse and was a body builder from the west country. He was the guy who actually played Darth Vader in the first three films because they wanted someone really big and tall, but his west country accent was far too pronounced, so Jones voiced over the character. I did meet Prowse and he told me this himself. He also said he was invited to a dinner at the White House and the then president didn't know this and couldn't understand him when he spoke and was disappointed as he wanted to hear have Jones' voice!Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 11:21 pmThink he came to my school once when I was a kid and gave a talk on road safety

Absolutely brilliant as Terrence Mann, the reclusive author ( based on J.D.Salinger ), in " Field of Dreams " ...
The film consistently voted as the one " most likely to make grown men cry " ...
