Sky TV Commentary

I know it wasn't the 'main' Championship game on Sky yesterday, but was it just me who found the commentary appalling. It was summed up by the Leeds penalty claim when they actually said that the ref had to be absolutely sure NOT to award the penalty! I think they will find the laws of the game say the opposite, refs have to be 100% sure it was a foul in order to award a penalty. This was in addition to them keep criticising the ref for not giving Leeds free kicks after he had played advantage, whilst not mentioning it when it happened to Flemming.

I normally quite like the usual Championship commentators but I'd never heard yesterday's before and really hope I don't hear them again soon.

Tried to watch on firestick but gave up after a couple of minutes, watched on iPad and it seemed like the commentary was a couple of seconds behind. For the first 16 minutes there was no clock or score. The commentators did get quite a few obvious things wrong. What annoys me with the coverage is how long camera would spend on the Leeds manager or the directors box, I couldn’t give a toss who’s sat in the directors box, I want to watch the match.

I don't listen to the commentary.

I watched it on Sky Sports + and as you say there was no clock/score for a time. They also didn't give out the line-ups at any time.

I agree about looking at managers etc. but unfortunately the editors seem to think that's what we want. Frustrating!

Must admit, I preferred the days when they panned to a nice looking lady in the crowd! Appreciate that’s not particularly PC these days.

Although we do still get it with the competitions filmed by foreign TV companies.

OP! Bit picky about the pen. As long as they are sure one way or t’other will do.
No idea who comms was but apart from factual mistakes he was ok. Adam Virgo on summarising has been around a long time, a marmite guy.

I try my best to blank out the commentary.

It was better the red button however the coverage did have a low budget feel about it. I was waiting for the post match manager interviews however it went straight to the golf.

Was it Virgo? That’s a bad start.

The commentator was Nigel Adderley who used to be on Radio Lancs.

We did spend a bit of time looking at some famous American actor person sitting in a stand with a Leeds tie on. But it was nothing compared to watching a kansas city game when Taylor Swift is watching.

The worst thing about watching on the Sky Sports Leeds channel is the little amount of chat about us that we get. If there was a full studio and pundit programme it would have been worse.

I tuned in pretty close to kick off always do to avoid the "big I am's" giving their point of view -- and assumed I had missed the line-ups. To not give a quick run-down at the start and again after half time is extremely amatuerish and not providing the service the viewer deserves (and pays for!). OK is its just highlights, but not for a fully televised match.

Isn’t it something to do with the sheer number of games they’re covering now? The ‘talent’ will be spread pretty thin and it’ll be a case of just churning them out this season.

In any other profession, you would be expected to know all the rules and regulations within your area of expertise or be held accountable for performance, etc.

Therefore, I've never understood why it's different as a TV football pundit. Constantly hear them spouting rubbish and not knowing the laws of the game, criticising the referee's decision even when correct if following the "letter of the law". Surely it should be a prerequisite of taking up the role?

No commentator comes close to being as irritating as Mark Scott... His voice goes right through me, especially where he has to exaggerate the ending of a player's name...

Haaland-ah
Ings-ah
Ward-Prowse-ah

Totally unnecessary, and makes me thankful when Jonathon Pearce is on... Now that really is saying something!

The commentary was poor but the sound quality was absolutely crap. You could barely hear any crowd noise at all. It sounded like the commentators were in a studio somewhere and the audio was just stuck over a crappy camera feed.

On top of that the picture quality was garbage and there was no scoreboard / clock for about 20 minutes.

It's supposed to be 2024. Shoddy all round from Sky Sports.

In the very early days of Sky they had the option of no commentary, just the crowd noise. I wish they still had it.

Koleosho-ah would have been good.

It wouldn't because that's not his name.

Commentary has definitely been out of sync with the games for the last two games on Sky. Seems to be a Sky sports issue specifically. Hope they get it sorted because it's a bit shoddy.

I’d recorded it and it looked really strange not having the score on the screen. I think it appeared just before their corner from which we scored.

Maybe the commentators were in a studio, it wouldn’t surprise me. That’s what they do on Clarets + now for away games.

No and it would have caused that commentator to lose his teeth, trying to get his tongue round it!

I generally watch all football with sound off now.
You come away with a completely different opinion of the match to them who have watched it with comms.
Quite enlightening when you hear the comms on the highlights
