Hi all,

From the NFL thread, a few commented to say they would be interested in a competition to select a winning team each week. I am just setting up a thread for this, which is free and open for all to play - so you don't have to know much about the NFL to take part.

The rules are as follows:

- You can only pick 1 team to win each week.
- You can pick after the game week has started, but obviously must select your winning team before their game starts.
- You can only pick the same team to win once during the season.
- You cannot select the same opposition twice in a row - trying to eliminate selecting whoever plays the Panthers every week here. EXAMPLE - if you pick the Raiders to beat the Panthers in week 3, you can't then pick the Bengals to beat the Panthers in week 4, but you could select the Bears to beat the Panthers in week 5 again.
- If the team you pick wins, you get 1 point.
- If the team you pick loses, you get 0 points.


PRIZE - I will donate £20 to the charity selected by the player at the end with the most points.

ENTRY - Free to enter, but I will suggest entrants also pay £10 (or whatever you can afford) to the winners charity. I won't police people doing this, purely voluntary.

I will do my best to keep on top of scores/what teams you can't pick again and post them after the end of each game week!

I know nothing about American football apart from some team names.

Therefore using my knowledge I will go for Tampa Bay Buccaneers to beat Denver Broncos

Just giving this a little bump before most games kick off this evening Jets already beat the Patriots in this game week.

Well whoever it is that we pick this week, Andy Dalton is presently proving that we are all better pickers than carolina owner David teppers. Two first round picks, two seconds and a quality WR Just to get the opportunity to pick bryce young over, well, anybody, not just cj stroud makes all of our signings last year look brilliant.

Hi! I know, 49ers going to pot, Panthers winning, must be nearly Halloween

No you aren't out! I thought the uptake would be fairly lowish, so instead of a knockout, which could be over in a week, I'll do a points system instead for the regular season if your team wins, you get 1 point, if your team loses, you get 0. Person at the end with the most points wins.

You can't pick the same team to win twice in the season and you can't pick the same team to lose twice in a row - so next week you can't pick the 49ers and you also can't pick the Rams to lose again for 1 gameweek (so you would not be able to select the Bears for that gameweek). Hope it makes sense!

After tonight's games I'll post a little league table and who each player cannot pick - with next week's games to select from

It didn’t work for me. I think the McCaffrey factor is stronger than envisaged.

Sad to read that whilst giving evidence in a court case Brett Favre has announced he has Parkinsons Disease at 54. He is blaming the numerous concussions he suffered throughout his long career.

I had not seen he was even in a civil court case about the misuse of funds until you posted. Such a shame for him, great player in his prime, but begs questions about what can be done to prevent these long term damages. You only have to watch plays like the Eagles' 'tush push' to see damage being done to people.
