Todays rain at Leicester got me thinking about an abandoned game 20 years or so ago involving Leicester, this time at the Turf.
I got so drunk in the aftermath, taking advantage of an early finish to properly upset the mrs of the day. That wasn't the goal, but it was the result.
Wettest I've ever been watching football and it might've only been half an hour.
I think it was early in the year, january appen, and it was abandoned, it made me poorly for a week. Any bells being rung?

Watford away not sure of the exact season 1998 to 2001, the game got abandon just before kick off with everyone already in the stadium.

Man city at home a good few years ago, think City were 0-6 up at half time and that was the only reason I can think of that it wasn't stopped, think it ended 0-6 due to the conditions.
Could be wrong on the score, my memory is not what it was

It was New Year's Day 2005 - should never have started and was abandoned after 19 minutes.

On today's game at Leicester, similar at Coventry where the referee took the players off for a period.

I remember that. Absolute deluge. From the pitch being fine to a paddy field in 10 minutes.
Wasn't it a New Years Day game?

I remember when I was a steward in the early 90s that I got soaked stood at the exit in the middle of the Bee Hole end at a home game vs Scunthorpe. I wasn't allowed to go underneath to shelter even though nobody in their right mind was on that end that day. It wasn't even my normal spot. I was usually cosy in one of the Bob Lord stand exits. Stitched up methinks

New Year’s Day remember being sat near the front of JML with an horrific hangover. Only comparison was Hull away over Christmas in the 90’s.

Chesterfield, at home when we were promoted back to division 2, full house but it literally smashed it down, we were up, they were safe, if there was anything depending on the game it would have been postponed.
Never been as wet and that was just walking to the Longside.

Forgot about that Hull hame, we will just kids and my mate had to go and get assistance from St John with the rain/cold. He ended up with Pneumonia.

They were a tiny cover at the back which a few burnley fans were under and all the other fans at were signing at them "we getting pi£sed wet through, your not, your not"

Then the rain came and the players got off very quickly and within no time it was under water. Even when the rain stopped, no one went onto the pitch to try and get it ready to start. Apparently, by around 3:20 it was fine and the game should have gone ahead.

Got absolutely drenched away at Oxford in our promotion year. The 2 late goals certainly brightened the day.

Remember the Watford away game when it was postponed with all the fans in the ground- Watford ground staff made zero effort to clear any water and/or try and drain it. If I recall it dried up soon after the postponement, so not sure why the game couldn’t have been delayed 30 minutes.

My thoughts exactly. All very odd- as if Watford didn’t want to play it.

Think it was the small cover from the supermarket behind! On the side there was a longside type stand but it only covered a few Burnley fans down there! Still we won with a John Deary screamer.

1-2 down. McMinn put us ahead before they scored two screamers. We won the rescheduled game, 4-3

I was there as a 17-year old, also on the Bee Hole with my then girlfriend. I think we were 1-0 down but might be wrong about that. I also seem to recall they came out for a bit of the 2nd half before abandoning the game? The only upside - I had a stamp in my programme (if you remember that competition) so won £10!

I got absolutely soaked in the kop at Blackpool when we kept beating them 3-1.

I think it was before Nogan though.

That was frustrating! Delayed start as the rain lashed. Then they came out and kicked a ball about...or tried to.

Puddles as well.

Very unfortunate though. Long way!

I remember the Peterborough home game around 2010/2011 that felt like it should have been abandoned. Coldest I’ve ever been on the turf. Rodriguez scored a brilliant goal to equalise late on I think.

Lost 6-1 in the end, though if the rain never came that day City were on there way to double figures.

Absolutely. Carlisle, our contenders for the title were playing the following night but needed a goal swing in their favour of 7 or 8 goals. Chesterfield were ready to go on their holidays and were probably as desperate as us to get the game played. They took the lead and our equaliser is on the big screen before every home game. A dreadful start to that season but from about November onwards things started to click for us.

Turned into a memorable season.
Was living/working in London at the time, but still managed to wangle time off to get up & see quits a few games after Christmas.

One win and one draw from the first six games. Then on the morning of the seventh game at Portsmouth, Bob Lord announced he was putting his shares up for sale. We won that afternoon and lost only two more games all season.

As for the last game against Chesterfield, I doubt it would have been played had it not been a game held over until after the season had been scheduled to finish.

Wettest - Exeter away 81/2. Stood on the then open away end and it poured down all afternoon.
Coldest - Grimsby away 82/3. Week before Christmas and we lost to a late goal. I was in the seats and couldn't move at the final whistle it was that freezing.

I remember.ber driving to Exeter and stopping several times at phone boxes to call Exeter to see if still on. "Yes all ok". Repeated. Arrived and parked. Walked to ground and it was called off. Powered through hole in fence. Lake. Should have been off long before.

Then there is the white rain that landed and stayed for our Spurs Prem match. Mr Dyche in his shirt sleeves.

I was on the edge of Burnley after my 240mile journey, when the announcement made. Turned round and drove straight home.

2 more of those I suffered - both in London and both times I'd got to the capital. 1977/8 Chelsea in the FA Cup - called off when I was on the King's Road. It was played the following Tuesday night & I went on the train to see us lose 6-2.

The other was 1978/9 at West Ham. A late call off so the coach driver took us to Highbury to see Arsenal beat Forest.

Is was fortunately sat in the stand that day at Exeter. I think Cardiff might have been the wettest I’ve been though in 2000 although the League Cup replay at Bradford City in 1978 is very much a strong challenger.

The coldest I have absolutely no doubt - no contest that it was Hartlepool in 1986 with the rain coming in horizontally too from the North Sea.

Im no particularly order:
Watford away postponed. Coach broke down, replacement bus wasnt delivered in time because of the postponement, incident in the pub meant we were delayed hours whilst said incident was sorted out by the police.

Blackpool mid-90's
Macclesfield away late 90's?
Fulham on this open end, again late 90's.
Oxford 1-2 - possibly my favourite away game.

I doubt I wore a proper waterproof at any of the above games

I was in Jimmy Mac lower, there was hardly anyone there. The seats all had icicles on them, nobody sat down as seats were frozen. Took me about 3 hours to get back to Colne. Horrendous.

That’s the only time I’ve heard the chant of “it’s ******* freezing, I want to go home” sang at a game.

Coventry away around 2005 was cold too.

Don’t remember the wettest but there was one home game last season where I got absolutely drenched. Might have been Arsenal or Chelsea at home. We got hammered, although that doesn’t narrow it down.

That was horrific, the only time I've come close to leaving due to the weather.

What made it worse was at the time my phone was broken and I was going straight on the game from home, not knowing my mates who I went on with were in the pub and decided to give the game a miss so I was stood on my own for the full 90
