I'm looking for some new carpets to also be fitted in a couple of rooms initially.

Has anyone had any fitted recently and can recommend anywhere locally?

Years ago (here in Hertfordshire) I noticed that Carpet Right's prices per square metre for identical carpet was quite a bit cheaper then my local shop. However it turned out that their headline prices were only for the carpet. They added for fitting, providing underlay and grippers (and thresholds if you needed them) as well as removal of the old carpet. The total was pretty much the same as my local carpet shop and of course with them it's easier to deal with any problems if they arise. I went local of course.

The emphasis wants to be on the actual fitter so which ever company you decide on via recommendations from this board try and get the fitters name and ask for them to do it.

To be truly authentic to the Spoons feel, you also have to locate the toilet half a mile away from your house.

We’ve always found Padiham Carpets to be both reasonably priced and to offer outstanding service.

Thanks everyone for the advice, except the Spoons suggestion. My house isn’t big enough to get the loo far enough away.

Can recommend colne carpets. Done a fair few floors for me and my parents. Always do a great job and never a problem to take as many samples as you want to check at home.

I'll second Mark, known him for years as a near neighbour. Done plenty of work for us over the years and always been reasonable etc as above

That above from BVK and CTID sounds a good bet CT.

The one on Accy rd about 1/4 mile before Rosegrove lights I think it’s Carpet Warehouse did us a real good job.

It’s across 2 houses, but 16-18 years.

There is one in Earby who did a decent job but we had issues with the floor so I wouldn't whole heartedly recommend them, which is a shame.

Buy good underlay. Cloud 9 and Tred Air are recommended. That's your main cushion and insulation. Source that yourself online to save a wedge.

Polypropylene carpet (plastic) is taking over the market. Wool sheds and unlike plastic can't be bleach cleaned.

If you want a nice carpet to last get something with a fleck (two/three tone) that's compact (stick your fingers in it and you want it thick/full).

Don't put a shaggy/long pile carpet in a high traffic area. It'll look like a dogs dinner in 5 minutes.

Can easily spend a lot of money on a bag of spanners.

Thanks everyone for the advice. In the end I used Cottage Carpets in Padiham. Mark came to measure up, gave me excellent advice and the carpets were really well fitted.

Really pleased with the result and would recommend them.

The Swan in Burnley used to have an interesting carpet upstairs in the eighties. I think is was Velcro because your shoes stuck to it .
