In my time there have been a number of Burnley fans who could be described as 'characters'. Amongst them:

Rocky Mills
Selwyn
Beeky
Dave Burnley
Brian 'Boxcar' Lucas

Who have I missed from this list and who are the characters at games nowadays. DB still with us but the others sadly have left us.

Norman Jones is someone I remember from my youth in Colne. Was certainly involved in the attempted demolition of the Darwin End at Ewood so no angel.

ILLY

Big old unit who lead groups of Burnley fans into some pretty hostile sections of away terracing in the 70's...I didn't really know him, but you couldn't miss him.

It was Marshall rather than Marsh and is full name was Adrian although I never heard him called that .Very sadly he was tragically killed around 1997.

I went to Thailand on honeymoon in 1995. Sat in the hotel foyer waiting to go out and in walks Ada Marshall wearing a Super Burnley from the North t shirt. Can't believe I have come 7000 miles away and bump into Ada. Cracking lad who sadly lost his life in a motor cycle accident.

Mine is of him causing chaos on the Riverside at Deadwood in a 1971 'friendly' then being interviewed in the old Evening Star with the headline 'I'm Not A Troublemaker' pleads Illy.

2014 I was staying at the Oaks hotel and got talking to a bloke in the pool/steam room area. I told him I was originally from Nelson and he asked if I knew any of his family, Marshall was the surname. I know 2 Marshall families, one I know all the siblings (Danny, Dave, James and Lesley) so ruled that one out. I asked if he had any brothers. Andrew, Adrian came the reply. Bloke was Stuart Marshall, Ada's brother. I found the photo of him at Northampton on my phone and emailed it to him. He had never seen that before, but his response was "typical Ada". He told me the family had taken lengthy and costly legal action to try to prosecute the driver of the car who pulled out of the give way junction onto the main carriageway into the path of the motorcycle ridden by Andy, with Ada on pillion that caused Ada's death. Sadly they were denied any justice, with no action taken against the driver. It will come as little surprise to discover the driver who caused the collision was a retired Police detective.

I'm almost certain I've a photo somewhere of him publicly apologising on a microphone in the Bob lord stand directors box, for something he said about Bob Lord.
He was a character, still is to be honest. I've always got on really well with him, we have a good natter

I remember Harrry Brooks and Basil Dearing both being quite vocal in their own way, albeit being thorns in sides of a very different era's board.

Not to mention the button pusher himself, Peter Shackleton

Doug is still around I think and Malcolm Moss definitely is. Vince Foster too is still about, was speaking to him not long ago.

I never knew Steve Mackriel but I've got to know his wife quite well through Alan Beecroft. Mick Kilburn died quite recently. I didn't know Preston Prick's name either but what a good bloke he was.

Some of those mentioned are on the pic below - Brian Lucas is far left, Malcolm Moss third from the left and PP second from the right. The pic was taken on the way to the Fairs Cup game in Frankfurt. Brian Lucas had been refused time off work so went off sick. This photo appeared in the Burnley Express leading to Brian receiving his P45. He sadly passed away over 17 years ago now. Missed by us where we sit in the Longside.

One other name to mention alongside Brian Wren was Roy Kilby - those two went to every away game together for years and years.

It is the cricket field stand, there was no Bob Lord stand when that pic was taken. I think Lord and Butterfield soon realised they'd been stitched up too.

Enjoyed some great away days in the 70s in the back of a 'Intack Hire' Van, with Alan Ingham driving.

Dougie Kendall is very much still around and goes all home games
He is married and lives near Poulton .
You will find him drinking Real Ale in various venues before the game.
His last port of call was always the 110 club before its demise

Doug used to travel to all the away games by train - he worked for British Rail so it didn't cost him a penny!

I don't know. I remember him being main man at a friendly at Ewood. It was the day of the 4th round of the FA Cup in 1971. We'd both been knocked out in the 3rd round so played each other for the first time since New Year's Day in 1966. Lost 2-0, but we took the Darwen End - the home end in those days.
