The salary offered for the skills and experience they're looking for is laughable.

Just analysed the job requirements and discovered that they can't spell licence!

Need to be roughly doubling the salary for the skills they want. Theyre paying the kind of money that a junior developer would be looking at.
Also they state that they want to do an enhanced DBS check. The role isn't eligible to warrant anything above a Basic DBS check. They can't just arbitrarily decide that they want to ignore the guidelines and go for the highest check

They will be working in a role that may involve working with the under 18s, so it is reasonable to request an enhanced check.

Interesting that MUD Analytics are now recruiting after years of stating they have no full time employees

I mean, its not unusual for start-ups to recruit more as they go on, is it?

I wouldn't necessarily call a 7 year old organisation a start-up and we know that Lee Mooney has been working full time at our club for a couple of years but their accounts tell us they had no one working full time on their behalf - that would include Mooney if the club were employing him as a consultant from MUD Analytics
Of course Mooney may have been taking an income from Squadbox - but it seems a low amount for his skillset and reputation - Squadbox is now in the process of voluntary Liquidation which is interestingly timed given when VK left the club
https://find-and-update.company-informa ... ng-history
It is possible that Mooney is now an fte at the club

If a company states they have no employees, CP, it means they have no employees.
No need to see anything odd or unusual in that statement.

I have never said there was - I have previously used the information to say that MUD Analytics were not responsible for recruitment during the tenure of Vincent Kompany - given it was I who first raised the possibility of it in April 2023

I wouldn't blame you if you did.
How do you run a company with that kind of architecture with no employees? The role is really just a front end developer but it refers to a good deal of technology.
You would assume there is more to MUD than one developer and a half cock attempt at data analytics.

There would be some latitude for Mooney to work on it as a director rather than an employee (but you wouldn't expect that to be the case for the work he does for Burnley) and it is likely there are one or more contractors used as well.

I don't think you could create a viable Sports data analytics company with one or two contractors. VCs are throwing hundreds of millions at companies like these...
It suppose it could be a Management consultancy with some data analysis capability using other people's data and AI architecture but collating data on players world wide is a huge undertaking.
It would be interesting to know what they actually do.

Developers with 2-5 years experience on £100k - £120k?
Not in the North West, for sure. That’s competitive.

Are you claiming they are lying when they said they had no full time employees ?
If you aren't then what exactly are you hinting at. Other hobbies are available apart from being an amateur financial detective and full time conspiracy theorist

Junior devs aren't on anywhere near £60K in the NW. Half that these days. The market has changed drastically in the previous two years.

What's caused it to change? Competition from offshore?

It's pretty common to use contractors at that stage. Lots of flexibility rather than a fixed payroll.
These companies aren't collecting stats, they are using other people's databases (statsbomb, Opta, etc) and building their own models and a nice interface to go with it. That doesn't require hundreds of millions and dozens of staff.
I don't think a lot of people realise just how much data is generated from a football match. This is the Statsbomb one for instance, it's 20-odd pages long
https://github.com/statsbomb/open-data/ ... v4.0.0.pdf
The vast amount of data means that there isn't one right way to look at or analyse that data but there is so much of it that it needs to be nicely interpreted and presented.
There's obviously also lots of different requirements (recruitment, performance analysis, oppoisiton scouting, etc)

Not sure to be honest. It's the same across most sectors perhaps with the exception of the physical trades.

I don’t think Junior developers have ever been on £50-60k to be honest. Thats more a mid to senior developer salary.
Although near/offshoring development roles has definitely kept a cap on tech salary inflation in recent years.
