Our glorious striker that was gonna be the best value striker in the Prem now has 1 in 9 in all comps this season.
Something needs to change up top and quick.

I think you could have Ronaldo up top this season and we would still be struggling.
In the final third we just simply do not have the quality.

Can't blame him for not scoring but his constant falling over is driving me F*cking nuts. If he had only paid attention to Ashley Barnes.....

Certainly not all Fosters fault
We were second best today and Preston and were robbed of a disallowed goal that was clearly onside

I actually thought he was OK first half. Lots of decent link up play.
He’s Parker’s fall guy in this system. The tactics are wrong and the football is dire.

Foster did what he can today and worked his arse off, more so than most of the others in my view. He’s too flat footed in the box to score many with this football though.

You can replace him if you like, but if you think a new striker is the quick fix to this constipated football we’re watching, then I think you’re going to be massively disappointed.

I keep saying this the 2 teams Parker got promoted had a striker to score 20 goals. Foster wouldn't score in a brothel.

Replace him with who? Flemming? There’s arguably a more pressing need to get Flemmimg into the number 10 position.
It’s criminal that despite all the money spent, we are left with Jay as back up.
We have to soldier on until the next transfer window as best we can. The squad is hugely unbalanced.
Foster is a conundrum but it’s one Parker is going to have to work out sooner rather than later if we want to go up.

Central midfield is our glaring issue - 3 players in there and for most of the game they were anonymous - anything in the centre is quickly and predictably pushed out wide.
I get why Hannibal is up there but it feels like overkill - 2 playing a defensive role and 1 pressing further up. It completely stifles any creativity through the middle and leaves Foster (or whoever is playing up front) totally isolated.

That goes for last season as well. 2 years in a row is absolutely criminal.

I actually feel sorry for Lyle playing in that role in this system; it is never going to work. Back to the drawing board for SP and his staff, and quickly.

Look at all the people making excuse after excuse for his poor performances… 2 years on.
Why were the same people not so forgiving last season to some of our new arrivals?

He's not been great but today is a weird day to pick on him. He was far more effective than koloesho for instance.

He was decent first half and nowhere near our worst second half, but Esteve was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch.

He’s giving us nothing.
If he put as much effort into getting into space as he does complaining to referees and pretending to be injured perhaps he’d improve on his abysmal scoring record.

We’ve got what we’ve got, up front, until January, which isn’t enough.
Like it or not, Foster is the best option until then. It’s now down to Parker to try and work out how to get more from him.

As long as Mejbri is playing in his current role and both our wingers are out of form we will massively struggle.
Foster isn’t the type of striker that can create stuff for himself. He’s like Wood he needs good service

Come on, I know you don’t like Foster but he wasn’t even that bad today.
Certainly better than Humphreys, Pires, Koleosho, Cullen, Brownhill and Anthony.
This manager’s tactics are deflating for both him and the fans.

There is no longer a justification for Foster being our starting striker if the presumption is that teams will sit in against us and we continue with 4-2-3-1. It's a simple as that.
He is really, really not good as the lone striker target man
He is not being helped but he is also not helping himself
Re: Foster

He is not good enough. He does have some good physical attributes but technically he’s poor and he has no intelligence or awareness. He needs binned off as soon as we are in a position too. Can’t carry non contributing forward players.

The only positive thing he did today was the carry with the ball from half way where his pace and power came in to fruition. Everything else is very poor. Hes on the floor more often than not looking to buy a freekick. I’m hoping Parker can find a way to release him and get him going , along with the rest of the attack I must add.

Kompany was on to something playing him off the left I think. Running on to the ball and carrying the ball are his strengths. Being a striker in general isn't. Try him where Antony is and have Flemming as the focal point.

I’m not sure if some of the comments about Foster working hard are from watching on TV but actually on the match you can see far more of the game, and I am sorry to say he is down right lazy. I purposely just watched him for 10 minutes to see what runs he was doing, or pulling the defence to make gaps he was doing and it was the opposite, he was following the centre back as if he was marking him. I have stepped back from saying this previously as I thought he may click with a partner but it’s just not going to happen if he can’t do the basics.

If people genuinely think Foster is the problem they are going to be sorely disappointed if hes replaced before the manager leaves or changes his philosophy.
He was far from the worst today.
The team create nothing for him, players dont get near him, we are slow to release the ball and rigid in our tactics and shape. Whilst there are things he needs to do better a new striker unless its Kane or Mbappe solves nothing thats been visible in our last three home games.

I think we're confusing laziness with a player who doesn't always reaf situations and is thinking too much rather than playing on instinct.
He had a very poor game today and his confidence looks low. Gaz is right though, he's a player who wants to be able to attack space from deeper off the left not play as a conventional centre forward and at present were just not setting up to get the best from him.

There was also a number of times the ball was fored at him and he had nobdiy within 20 yards of him and another when he then had to get it turn and run with the ball to try and get us on the attack because nobody wantes to help, run past etc../ hes not palying well but lets not pretend this rubbish is all on him or solved by replacing him

Foster was poor again which is now the expected norm. Some of that is down to how we're using him but if that doesn't suit him then don't play him. It doesn't matter what attributes he has, if he isn't using them he needs to sit in the stand and watch some players that do use their attributes. He's not cute in the slightest. Got completely bullied and no change out of the referee today but he has to solve those problems for himself and he had absolutely no answers to any of it...again.
Re: Foster

For those saying he makes good runs, actually watch him, he is never busting a gut to get on the end of the ball when balls are actually played into the box which yes is a rarity. He is constantly behind centre halves and you can see he is not doing his all to get on the end of the ball, if he had this in his bag of tricks he would be pulled more for being offside but he doesn't play on the shoulders of the defenders which as a lone striker he should be, his positioning is allowing back 4s to squeeze up and nullify our creative players.
He needs to go

I say this and I liked him, really wanted him to succeed, actually thought he would. His performances though this season have been nothing short of terrible. I swear to God I would rather have Barnes back, even jutkiewitz, at least he could lead a line and knew how to play the role

Foster was the best player in claret and blue today. Other than Estéve obviously, who is far too good for this league.
Foster's hold up play was a big improvement from Tuesday night and he ran with pace with the ball before playing it out wide. He's also the only one of the front three who consistently presses.
The criticism he receives feels a bit over the top. He does spend too much time flopping about on the floor but then so did Barnes. Any analysis of him has to take into consideration the way we play and the service he gets.

It’s no surprise his confidence is on the floor being asked to play up top on his own, at home, with non-existent attacking midfielders and wingers behind him.
My confidence is on the floor having to watch it.

I don’t know what you’re watching, he held it up like 3 times all game. Should have squared it to Zian, needlessly fouling the opposition and giving away cheap free kicks.

Comments about Foster being lazy are lazy in themselves in my view. He’s constantly pressing without the ball and if he does lose it he tries to battle and win it back immediately. We obviously aren’t anywhere near creative enough yet. I know some people don’t like it but xG is a good way to look at chance creation and right now we are averaging way below where Parker’s Bournemouth were. Was that due to Solanke’s movement or was it just a more settled side that created more? If it’s the former then it’s a concern cause Foster will not be that type, if it’s the latter (which I lean towards) then hopefully we improve, it can’t get much worse than today.
