Really Poor Today
Passing awful, no cohesion between midfield and what passes for our front line, toothless in front of goal.
Only Esteve and maybe a couple more come out with any credit for me.
Dreadful.

Re: Really Poor Today
Footballers are such fannies these days. The ball is barely in play with the amount of free kicks, and time players spend on the floor. It’s so stop start, it might as well be American football. It’s no wonder there’s no atmosphere at games anymore.
Everyone talks about how fit players have to be these days. I’m not sure why. They get 2 minutes break in every 3 minutes of play.
Every challenge the players go down now. It’s become the thing where you don’t get a foul unless you go down. It’s making football dull as p!ss!

Absolutely horrendous game of football. Two really shite teams who can’t pass it just kicking each other. Dire tactics as well.

Shocking today all around. Backwards step. Luckily we kept a clean sheet and there’s 2 weeks for Parker to get players back fit & get on the training ground.

Re: Really Poor Today
It’s like watching a gridded training session where every player is locked in.
The defenders never step into midfield to break lines. The midfield seem incapable of playing anything other than sideways and backwards. The wingers always come inside into traffic. The striker never looks for the ball in behind.
The result is harmless or congested possession.
I’ll be amazed if these players have gone rogue. It’s how they’ve been told to play.

Re: Really Poor Today
From the stream I watched on it looked like a very rigid, risk averse set up, lacking space for creativity. Wouldn't criticise any individual players for that reason.
We look solid defensively (aside from their disallowed goal), probably helped by the above.
There's been a lot of change this summer and things could be a lot worse. At some point though I'd like to see us gel, become more progressive and offer a little more to get the fans excited.

In Kompany's promotion season I reckon it was about Oct/Nov before we really kicked on. Don't know how many games that is.Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 2:59 pmHow many games do we need for the players to 'bed in'
Conceding 4 goals in 9 games and averaging 2 points per game is a solid start. Let's hope we can build and show more going forward.

The chronic lack of chance creation is a major concern. This isn’t a squad assembled on a shoe string.

Re: Really Poor Today
We set up like we're playing Man City away every week, far too conservative.
Cullen now rarely looks for a sideways pass, his instinct is to go backwards and as someone mentioned above, this must be under instruction. Koleosho just runs into defenders hoping to plow through them.
When we get the ball out wide there's either Foster or nobody to aim for in the box. It comes back to the full back then square across the pitch via three or four passes every time. Preston had 3,4,5 players in the box in the same situations and they're playing away against one of the promotion favourites.
And that second half! The game couldn't have gone more than 2 minutes without a stoppage. I'd have switched it off in disgust if I was a neutral.
Awful game.

Absolutely no idea going forward. It’s all far too slow at the moment and foster needs to stay between the sticks a lot more when we do get it out wide. Some serious work needs doing in the international break.

Re: Really Poor Today
If someone asked you to predict how the game would pan out, it was pretty much the template.
There is no plan, we were told how it's the teams who park the bus that we'll struggle with, it's not. It's us, not the opposition who cause the issues.
We basically vacate midfield and expect us to pass the ball forward to the line of four players stood on the halfway line, the main focal point is a good player but completely out of his depth as a striker playing with his back to goal.
The two wide men were terrible today, their end product is almost zero and this isn't the first time this has been the case.
I am a positive 'glass half full fan', and have often been on here telling people to wind their necks in but, this has to improve.
Yes, hopefully Roberts and Flemming are now back so let's see how things develop going forward.
Very frustrated.

Much like the previous two games, a disjointed performance with little goal threat.
Esteve apart the players look average championship standard and the current table flatters us.

Our plan is sideways sideways look for Koleosho
Koleosho runs at 100 mph, runs passed a few player's then has no idea how to put the ball in the box

Give Parker until Christmas if nothing changers then bye bye because its boring
Re: Really Poor Today
All this negativity!
Give Parker a chance! wWe're only utterly without an idea of how to create chances from open play because well over a month and 6 games (4 against preseason tipped relegation candidates) is nowhere near enough time to work out how to implement the £30m worth of signings + loans we made in the last couple weeks of the window.
The teams we're up against are really lucky they don't have the debilitating handicap of spending that much on players! Like Preston, whose entire squad cost a fraction of that figure. If only we could trade places!
And time, Heckingbottom may have taken over as manager after the season started but since he only signed one player since he joined he's definitely got it much easier than Parker. Oh, the envious glances Parker must have been casting across the technical area today!
We'll be better next time out. And if not then definitely the match after that. Or the one after that. Or...

We’ve heard similar from Fulham and Bournemouth fans (who both arguably had more quality at their disposal thank we have now). This is how he plays and it likely won’t change.
He’s said that he has learned and developed - let’s hope so because things do need to change pretty sharpish.

I can’t see why we wouldn’t use Cullen in the same role as previously , dropping into the back line wether central or to either side and dictating from there?
Is Tresor really going to be the man to change this?

Re: Really Poor Today
It’s safe, dull and predictable. Nobody willing to clip a ball in behind or play a risky through ball. Foster seems incapable of holding the ball up and staying in between the goalposts. This is definitely tactical. I have a friend who’s a Fulham fan that warned me about Parkerball, and this is exactly what he described. I don’t feel the same as I did under Kompany, back then it was clear it was going to click eventually, I don’t think this will, I think this is exactly how we will continue to play.
Still think we may have enough individual quality to go up, but we will limp to promotion if we do.

Wingers especially Luca are coming back for the ball when they should be making runs for way and have their players running towards their goal.
Was a tough watch today but this is what teams are going to come and do…
Massive parallels from the VK season … and I think it will click but we are stinger at the back and weaker up top

Re: Really Poor Today
I agree with lots of this but if anything the full backs stepped inside into midfield too much today. We were crying out for them to get high and wide, for Cullen to drop in alongside the centre halves as he did so effectively 2 seasons ago, and the wingers to stay high and wide to stretch the game. Anthony though spent the entire game 10 yards in field and Koleosho was completely shackled. Either way it certainly ended up being far too ponderousand congested.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 2:54 pmIt’s like watching a gridded training session where every player is locked in.

We have some good players but apart from questions over coaching (which i think are premature) at present it looks evident the team has a couple of limitations. We look short of presence up front (something Flemming might address) but we also lack explosive pace at full back. Two years ago we almost always has one or both of Vitinho and Maatsen on the pitch who offered real pace and acceleration, allowing them to both carry the ball to set up attacks and join attacks to exploit space. We've a bit of pace further up the pitch but that lack of pace at the back feels a big problem.

Re: Really Poor Today
Trafford was shaking his head at the booing emanating from the Jimmy Mac stand at the final whistle so I’d expect more interviews like the Brownhill one following the Portsmouth win. I didn’t boo, just for clarity, but don’t have a problem with anyone that did following that dirge.
We’re a relative behemoth in this division with a huge financial advantage over Preston. If the players and manager can’t understand the fan’s frustrations then perhaps we should be shaking our heads at them.

Re: Really Poor Today
I think this is the plan and everything is going pretty much as Parker wants it to.
We keep it very tight and hope that an individual will create chances. It results in us rarely conceding and consistently getting good results.
It's awful to watch and isn't going to get any better, it is simply a question of whether that is an acceptable trade-off for promotion.

We don’t switch the play quick enough for me. And when a forward does make a run in behind the defender / midfielder on the ball doesn’t spot it and plays it safe.
Hopefully a run with Flemming in the team will give us more presence and guile up front.
