Whilst I don’t dispute the figures you have to factor in that say Luton’s capacity is around 12,000 and Leeds is nearly 39,000.

And that mob have a capacity of 32k……so average attendance 15k. Our capacity 22k so 20k attendance……….

Whilst never wishing to give them any credit for anything……….they have had some dross to watch and owners who whilst funding that dross have hardly done anything to develop the club overall.

Not sure about that they subsidise them to the hilt, the academy is one of the best going and they have done numerous discount schemes to try to get the unwashed to attend, hardly anything IMHO.

Pretty good across the division as a whole. Cardiff and Rovers absolutely miles behind the average.

All to do with success, if you looked at the same percentages in around 2006 or 2007, we'd probably be an average of less than 50%

We used to get around 12k back then but wasn't the capacity only 18,500?

What’s even more embarrassing for them lot, is along with Preston they give by far the biggest away allocation which distorts attendances.

That said, all of this becomes a bit pathetic. Along with us, the catchment areas are very similar for Preston and Blackburn and all things being equal we have very similar levels of support. At the moment ours are higher because the PL years which attracted a lot of families etc. We have some of the biggest clubs in the world on our doorstep and none are big towns/cities. You’re probably looking at an overall catchment area of around 250,000 for Burnley. Some of the cities that our championship rivals are from is bigger than that without even factoring in all the outlying smaller towns that form the catchment area. As a whole I think all the Lancashire clubs do pretty well for support all things considered.

Be interesting to see how this looked if only home seating was factored in.

I saw a feature on a weekend's results from 1993 on Facebook earlier today. Rovers, of course in the Premier League, with a home game against Sheffield United in front of a little over 14,000. They were treated to a 0-0 draw.
A glance at the accompanying league table and that draw saw them drop to 5th.

I remember attendances of only 12,000/13,000 being relatively regular when we were in Division 1 in the late '60s. Occasionally even lower.

There’s no way that Turf Moor has been 92% full this season.

From my seat in the bob lord I can see there are even whole rows with nooone sat in them.

There may well be 92% sold- but that’s entirely different from how many actually turn up.

It’s an issue in football across the board that people have season tickets because they can afford them and then just pick and choose their games.

Other than after the war we are better supported now than we've ever been. And I would argue that when Turf is rockin' it's a better atmosphere than it's ever been.

Back in the day the back of the Longside would sing but the Bee Hole had no roof and the other two (or one) stands were quiet. Arguably, the banter was better and the songs more brutal back then...!

Obviously, we don't get the big one off gates that we once did because of the capacity of the stadium but getting 20,000 in the second tier of the pyramid is good going for us.

As for Rovers they do well for a small town club in an area with 3 professional football teams and huge clubs just down the road.

Or maybe Rovers are too small for the ground !!

Although as an afterthought, I'd have thought the Longside on a good day was more atmospheric than the CFS is now. But then, the last time I went in the CFS was in about 1969 or 1970.

Possibly. It was only really the back of the Longside that sang. I think the Longside was also noisy because the away fans were in there as well.

I just think more of the ground sings not not just thee Longisde. I can only recall being in the CFS twice. If memory serves me, once against Wigan when Turf sold out after Ian Wright signed along with quite a few other Clarets and once when Milwall fans were banned.

I think the general consensus is the Longside was louder back in the day but but I'm not sure tbh I think when Turf rocks now it's as good as it ever was....

The only thing I disagree with here is the bit about only the back of the Longside singing. In total the Longside was 80 terraces, the back bit being 20. The singing stretched down to include the back 55 or 60, the first 20 or so being more restrained.

It was pretty loud on the Cricket Field End v Naples.

I remember the crap season in 1986 when our average attendance for the whole bloody season ranged from about 1500 to 3000 or so per match! . Bloody bad times those, and awful football.
