Glen Little

Post by Tackler49 » Sat Oct 19, 2024 11:32 pm

I have listened to Glen Little on radio Lancashire a few times this season now and each time he as a negative opinion of the Clarets, talk about glass half empty he is the epitome of doom today he was bored and Burnley will need to improve, everyone knows that! but he seems to think we should be playing VK football he doesn’t take into account that SP was dealt a crap hand and he’s trying to find his best side (we are only 10 games in) and a long injury list. The fact that we are top of the league (till Sunday) only conceded 4 goals doesn’t give him any reason to be positive as an ex claret you would think he would give more positivity Kevin Gallagher is totally opposite for Rovers. I thought Glen would’ve been better than that!

Glen has high standards and played in the days of attach attack attack. Nothing wrong with that but things are different in the modern game.

Why are you surprised when one of our most attacking style players ever is bored with safe possession football?
He will hate wingers refusing to take their full backs on and just safely passing back instead.

It would be the same but in reverse if a defender who loved clean sheets kept watching his side play like Spurs are now.

Imagine how dreadful Glen would be now under this era of football that’s about racking up the passes and possession based nonsense.

There’s a good case of just how much coaches in this country are coaching natural ability out of the players these days.

Koleosho is in the top 5 in the league for dribbles completed.

I think Little is fairly balanced and says what a lot of supporters think at the minute.

He finished off by saying ‘4 cleans sheets in a row and top of the league, what more could you want?’

I think we are building a really solid foundation at the moment. Some fans expect everything to happen at once though, solid defensively and scoring loads of goals.

Points wise it’s been a great start.

How many successful crosses or passes at the end of these dribbles?

Irrelevant to your ‘wingers who refuse to take players on’ statement. If anything, criticism of Koleosho has been that he tries dribbling too much.

It wasn't a dig at Koleosho though, it was the styles being so different.
The full backs run up and pass back. We even had a CH run through midfield against Preston and then passed wide who passed back to the other CH.

I was explaining how it could be frustrating/boring for an exciting attacking player.

Genuine question: How many seasons did Glen play at this level for us?

I don’t think anyone can disagree with Glen. The football on show is boring. Sadly the game as a whole is going that way.

Yet less than two years ago, a team won the Championship playing some of the best football that league had seen.

Glen always comes across as considered and frank in his assessment. He also comes across as someone who has Burnley in his heart and only wants the best for us. I think he's refreshing and engaging to listen to. Thanks legend.

I don't think football on the whole is boring now to what it was in the past. What I reckon is that some people watch too much football these days, so obviously you're going to see a lot more dull games than you would have done before we had wall-to-wall live football on TV.

What has indeed changed is that it's become oversaturated, and like all good things, if you overdo it to excess - it becomes mundane. Today I'll watch the Liverpool v Chelsea game and that's it.

There might be more football available to watch. But what you can actually watch has stayed as it was 20 years back.

EFL and Itv Digital era
Premiership games available of box office
Premiership on SkySports
MOTD/Premiership
Champions League on ITV
Seria A on Channel 4

Now we have access to which game we want at a particular time rather than just the one game available.

Football is becoming stale.

Heard some of Glen’s comments and they seemed totally fair. Glen was a virtuoso flair player, of course he wants to see a bit more on the attacking front. As highlighted above, he has always spoke well about us.
