Reports that Nathan Is unhappy with lack of game time at Leverkusen.
Is it worth while a loan bid in Jan? I can’t see him dropping to the 2nd tier of football personally but you never know.

Unlikely whilst we’re in this league, but if we get promoted we should right the wrong of not signing him last summer.

I'm still irritated by the fact we seemingly didn't go all out to sign him in summer 2023 and when I reflect that we signed the likes of Tresor and Amdouni instead it fair makes my head explode. `He seemed to really enjoy his time here but I think we'd have to get promoted for him to consider signing for us now and I doubt he'll stick around at Leverkusen in january if he is genuinely unhappy and it hasn't resolved itself by then.

The absolute heartbeat of the promotion side. Had abounding enthusiasm, pace to burn and a smile on his face that endeared him to everyone with a Claret persuasion. Tap ins, exciting goals were all part of his armoury. Huge opportunity missed.

We’ve missed the boat with Tella. I can’t see him coming back, certainly not if we’re in the Championship. And I don’t think a relegation dogfight in the Prem would appeal either, not after winning the Bundesliga.

Is this the bit where we took Tella's agent's advice to hold off because we'd then be able to get him at a cheaper price ? The problem with doing that is that if you wait you run the risk that someone else will jump in and hijack the deal, which is what happened. We should've just got it done. I dont think any Burnley fan would have thought that Tella wasn't worth £20M or whatever was being asked...he was truly exceptional for us.

I’d absolutely love to have him back, but I think that ship has sailed, unfortunately.
There’s no guarantee that Parker is even a fan of his, nor that Tella would entertain playing under him.

So we thought Amdouini at £15m was a good deal, but not Tella at £20m. Tella would have had a field day on Saturday at Hillsborough

To be fair Amdouni is a class player, record for Switzerland remains superb, good record in Europe for club sides and isn’t the first player to take time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League.
Tresor remains to be determined.
Neither are relevant to the Tella situation, which was a huge error primarily by Kompany - we know for a fact he felt he could do better than most of the lads who got him promoted. I know Pace and Williams admitted their part in the error the other night which was welcome, though as usual the agent was playing silly sods.

Tella is still unproven at PL level. Not much difference between him and Amdouni.
Don't get me wrong, I wish we'd signed him, but how he would have fared in the PL is anyone's guess.

Understandable that the feeling is he wouldn't return to the championship but if it was a Premier league club I would expect it to be one struggling at the wrong end of the table. Hasn't done enough personally in Germany to expect anything more.

Tella has 33 premier league appearances scoring 1 goal whereas Amdouni has 5 goals in 34 appearances.

I would suspect Amdouni played a lot more minutes in those 34 appearances though, just for balance.

We obvs missed NT goals last season but then other huge gap he left was his ability and enthusiasm to press opponents, nobody got near that last season.
I personally think he would have got around the 7 goal mark in the prem, so not much different to Zeki. But as i say, what we really missed was the press and personality and enthusiasm he gave the team, Zeki couldn’t replicate those attributes.

I've no idea if Tella would have been any good for us in The Premier League but I doubt it.
For goals per games played, Benson was just as good as Tella, as was Rodriguez.
I agree about his infectious enthusiasm and chasing down. Koleosho can do the chasing down too.
Tella would be a good replacement for the current out of form Koleosho though, in The Championship.

Deviating from the original post but am intrigued to know what you believe to be an 'in form' Koleosho? No question regarding his pace but am wondering about the rest.

I really don't think it is beyond the realms of possibility that you see Tella back here if we get promoted. He seems to have done pretty well at Leverkusen last season with the chances he has had but you'd imagine they may accept what they paid for him rather than expecting much of a profit. He should be within scope for us if we actually go for the 'right' types rather than being kid in a candy shop again. Three or Four first eleven players rather than 10-12 'maybe's please.
(IF WE GO UP)

Scored 19 goals as a wide forward. There is no one in our squad who could get that many goals from the wide areas

The cool unflustered finish against Leeds after sprinting more or less the length of the pitch?

Someone with more than just pace! We've seen hints of it but no more.
I didn't see any of his games in The Premier League, only the ones this season, and apart from a couple of games he has been mostly poor.

I think Tella would struggle in this team in the same way Koleosho is. Under Parker we are very solid and structured and look to get it into our front 3 and let them create something.
Under Kompany there was constant movement of players in and out of different positions which created the space that players like Tella and Benson could exploit and like what would suit Koleosho
I actually think someone like Zaroury would suit this team better as had the ability and tricks to beat players from a static starting position and create chances out of nothing

It's amazing how behind the modern game so many people seem to be. It's like watching the bit on moneyball where the old scouts can't understand it.
Football players are not perceived and do not get big moves off goals and assist alone anymore.
Koleosho will get a big money move to a decent side based on stats such as dribbles, ball carrys and so on, coupled with his age.
He might not be getting goals and assists every week but every week he's beating multiple defenders and carrying the ball into the box. He's easily our most talented player and there's a reason the opposition fans go away each week picking him out.
People just need to enjoy the excitement and the mazy dribbles and jinky runs while he's here.

Tella, as much as I love the bloke may well be an unknown quantity in this league never mind for a PL side. His time either side of us has hardly been groundbreaking and his output has unsurprisingly not been as effective now he's taken a step up. I do accept a caveat he's not been given as much of a chance either side of us, but some times a player just has a mazy patch of form when all the cards they're dealt are coming up aces. He had the great team spirit that season, he hit the ground running with a few early goals to get the confidence up, he was playing in a good, winning side that was playing in a way that was getting the best out of him.
Sometimes a player returning just doesn't capture the magic in the same way and it's best to leave it in the past.
I'd Take him back in a heartbeat personally and I would hope that whoever is still friendly with him is on at him, ditto Mr Pace and his agent.

He knows how much is he loved in these parts. As one of my friends said.... as decent as we are looking, Tella is the missing piece. His out and speed and directness I believe would assist us no end.
As said above I would play him through the middle. With Flemmings power and Tella's pace, I think we'd be ridiculous.
