Rubbish isn’t he Wood.
Re: Forest/Palace
Wish we still had him
Bit lucky with his goal Henderson should have done better

Yeah should have stopped it.
Re: Forest/Palace
Anderson has looked brilliant. Strange that Newcastle have let him go.
Re: Forest/Palace
Woods did well for us just more than 1in3 49 from under 150 appearances

Re: Forest/Palace
Woody really is a superb Premier League player, just a bit worse than 1 in 3 over his career, not dissimilar to his record at the league below.
Did well for us too and we cannot begrudge the Saudi money coming in for him to scupper us.
Has played for some biggish teams but his time here will probably be his career highlight, more goals than for anyone else including what should have been a vital one in Athens before his current boss intervened.

Re: Forest/Palace
Palace fans must be worried about the attitude of the players when they went one nil down.
Re: Forest/Palace
Crystal Palace look very poor this season. Their right back number 12 didn't look to have an accurate pass in him all night.
Re: Forest/Palace
It's difficult to arrive at any other conclusion, with the benefit of hindsight, that for those last 6 months or so with us he'd simply just downed tools and we'd lost his interest.
I'd thought at the time that we'd maybe just had the best out of him. Dyche was excellent at spotting that with other players such as Vokes, Ward etc and I'd assumed he'd just be quietly let go in the summer.
You can't really blame him for his time at Newcastle but now he's back to being what he was with us - just a solid middle of the road PL striker. Good on him.

Re: Forest/Palace
I thought he was excellent tonight and indeed they’ve just shown the statistic that since Nuno was appointed (December 2023), only Haaland and Palmer have scored more Premier League goals than him - 16 in total.
He’s another of those players that seems so divisive, yet the numbers don’t lie.

Wood pretty much gave up in his final season with us - I didn't like that at all.

I think it's more likely that he was just drained of any confidence. Players like him thrive off goals, I really don't think he'd just down tools regardless of his comfort zone comment.BigGaz wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 10:07 pmIt's difficult to arrive at any other conclusion, with the benefit of hindsight, that for those last 6 months or so with us he'd simply just downed tools and we'd lost his interest.

Re: Forest/Palace
Wood has an incredible strike rate for Forest. Superb centre forward.
Re: Forest/Palace
I fancied Palace to do ok this season. Shows how tough the league has got.

Re: Forest/Palace
Wood didn't do much else but when decent balls were put in the box he was onto them quickly.
Re: Forest/Palace
Wood went off in his last 6 months with us and was as bad when at Newcastle if you look at the stats
Forest 46 and 20 goals
Newcastle 35 and 4 made up of 18 and 2 goals 17 and 2
Us 144 and 49 but final season 17 and 3
Leeds 83 and 41
Dont think those stats show him downing tools-he hit a barren spell as a striker in his half season with us and his year at Newcastle. Once at Forest he had one goal in 7 the latter half of 22-23 season then has got back to the Wood we knew here and Leeds

Re: Forest/Palace
In fact there was a spell where in 59 or so games Wood only scored 8 goals but in 225 Prem league appearances he has netted 73 times.
Re: Forest/Palace
No doubt Wood can score goals at Premier League level, but there is no denying he was an absolute shambles in his final year with us. Lazy and clearly wanted out. No hard feelings against him as he did well prior to that, and made us a profit overall.

Hogwash fair enough your point stands if palace get relegated. Fulham upped his wage beyond what palace were prepared to pay & offered 5 years he'll be 33 when it expires on very good money. He's already slowing down getting sent off for pulling somebody back he won't be speeding up with age a ticking financial time bomb if I ever saw 1 on a extraordinary wage.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 8:01 amNot that surprised to see Palace struggle this season, selling Anderson never looked a good idea

Re: Forest/Palace
The way Wood hits many one touch shots is what he is about. I’m guessing he doesn’t get away with it many times which fools his detractors.
I posted 2-3 seasons ago that he was one of a select 3-4 strikers who had scored 10+ PL goes in 4 consecutive seasons.
People are still amazed he is scoring at the highest level so good on him. A Burnley PL legend in reality

Re: Forest/Palace
Chris Wood is a perfect example of a player getting the most out of his talents. Let's face it he's not the most skilled footballer by any stretch but has scored goals wherever he's played, that's a valuable commodity. His Forest contract expires after this season, it wouldn't surprise me if he gets another two year deal with a PL club even at his relatively advanced age.
Re: Forest/Palace
Newcastle didn't really want him, but they certainly didn't want us to have him, as a motivated, focused and undistracted Chris Wood may very well have kept us up.

Re: Forest/Palace
Shows how much they are missing olise who created so much. Defensively they aren't so bad losing by the odd margin although anderson's presence & raking long diagonals will count but olises the 1. Made me chuckle when people were valuing LK at same 50m although BM got olise cheap still some way to go.

Re: Forest/Palace
Did a great job for us - he's been a decent striker for almost all his career, and was crucial to the way we played. I liked him.
But anyone suggesting his final season performances were anything other than 'downing tools' is as deluded as anyone who thinks his sale to Newcastle weakened us significantly - the last few months were like playing with only ten men, he was THAT bad. It's why he's remembered the way he is by many - me included. Anyone who doesn't give 100% in our shirt every single time he steps over the white line can get pumped.

Re: Forest/Palace
You could be right. Shame he wasn't that player any longer. Newcastle would have stayed up at our expense anyway had Wood stayed here imho. He was disinterested long before Howe came calling. Could've saved themselves a few bob if they had done some proper scouting and had him watched. Best bit of business EVER!

Re: Forest/Palace
Or alternatively... he'd been playing pretty much constantly from the start of the 20/21 season, didn't get a pre-season or a rest due to the 2021 Olympics and was then - despite running on fumes and having virtually nothing to work with bar Westwood's no-look dinks over the top into channels - still managed in 21/22 to outperform any other striker we had who wasn't called Cornet.bobinho wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:20 pmDid a great job for us - he's been a decent striker for almost all his career, and was crucial to the way we played. As for the 'comfort zone' comment he made alluded to elsewhere... well, he absolutely was in a comfort zone wasn't he? It's not like he was under pressure for his place from the ghost of Rodriguez's Premier League career or an Ashley Barnes who looked like he'd forgotten how to play professional football and couldn't even effectively sh!thouse anymore, was it?
List all the reasons we went down that season and I wouldn't put Wood anywhere near the top, to be frank.

Re: Forest/Palace
Or the middle...or even the bottom if we're going to be realistic.
Wood merely did what it said on his tin. Not pretty, but there wasn't much that was in that season.
McNeil apart, obviously.

Commendable attempt at explaining how it's good football nous to be committing paying a declining ageing footballer with a lengthy contract.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 7:55 amPlease don't quote me I would rather not read your posts on football they are even dumber than the racist views you hold

Re: Forest/Palace
Only 3 players have managed more premier league goals in their entire burnley career than Chris Wood got in his last 12 months.
