Thanks Vegas, unfortunately I cant watch it at work, any takeaways from it?
Re: Parker pre match v WBA
I feel much happier after that interview with his answers. He seems more aware than many gave him credit for on the attacking side needing to be improved and he was asked some probing questions for a change, especially about Koleosho being better on the left which he agreed with!

It was a strange one that. I'm sure he said he saw him as a left sided player, but the dynamics of the team meant he was having to play on the right for now!BigChaCha wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 3:03 pmI feel much happier after that interview with his answers. This is a ridiculous state of affairs and enough to question his fitness to be a manager. We can't create or score and he hasn't yet tried something that could help. More stubborn the VK and that really is saying something.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 3:07 pmIt was a strange one that. Most fire he’s shown in a press conference so far and probably the first time this season he’s actually been given some proper questions that fans are asking and he faced them well.

Not only is it crazy, he has seriously devalued what was one of our best assets when we are in massive debt. Can't see Pace being happy if what Scotty said is accurately quoted above.

Re: Parker pre match v WBA
Possibly, but why does Anthony have to play regardless?
Surely we could play Sarmiento wide right in order to accommodate Koleosho on the left, for example?

He specifically said Sarmiento has had several international trips where he’s arrived back on the Friday before a game, making him unselectable for the first 11, and then further to that, recently suffered an injury - so I’m not sure it’s entirely fair at this stage (plus in between that, Anthony has actually scored and assisted).fidelcastro wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 3:16 pmPossibly, but why does Anthony have to play regardless?

I would hope so, but SP alluded to Sarmiento's international breaks and injury; perhaps if Sarmiento is available regularly he'd be in the side ahead of Anthony.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 3:16 pmPossibly, but why does Anthony have to play regardless?

It makes you wonder why he bothered signing him then, but yes, he obviously can't start if he's injured.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 3:18 pmHe specifically said Sarmiento has had several international trips where he’s arrived back on the Friday before a game, making him unselectable for the first 11, and then further to that, recently suffered an injury - so I’m not sure it’s entirely fair at this stage (plus in between that, Anthony has actually scored and assisted).
Anthony has been very hit and miss so far, and to think it wasn't that long ago that we were bemoaning the squad was stockpiled with wingers.
It's a very strange state of affairs, but there's still time to put it right if we sign the right players.

I'd play with just Koleosho switching wings at will if we could play 2 up front centrally.

I think something that needs noting from this particular presser is that he made it very clear that everyone here now wants to play for Burnley FC and be successful with us
He also made it very clear that it wasn't the case in fact 'the complete opposite' when he came in...
The man has been given a very tough hand and although we need to get the ball in the back of the net I do believe he's dedicated and I think he will get there

No mention of MT again. It really is the hope that kills you. If he isn't fit enough by now to take some part in a game of football then even I must agree that there is another plan afoot for him.
Other than that every question and answer perfectly moulded allowing the manager to go off on a gentle ramble. Not quite Henry V before the Battle of Harfleur. Never mind though.

There is certainly an element of truth in what he inherited but he has brought in some of his "own" players and decides the tactics

I will admit to being quite unimpressed with Anthony, but in that context to Sarmiento, you can understand why he’s playing where he is.
He also sounded like he’s planning on playing Sarmiento somewhere in that line now, maybe centrally (?) which is reassuring to hear?

I think whatever the situation is he’d have to say everyone wants to play for the club ,if he’d have said the opposite this board would be in meltdown trying to work out who the rotten apples were.( By the way that’s not a criticism of SP it’s just stating the obvious)The Shire Claret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 4:09 pmI think something that needs noting from this particular presser is that he made it very clear that everyone here now wants to play for Burnley FC and be successful with us

I was wondering the same thing that Sarmiento could be that missing spark with a wandering role behind a front two.. would definitely give us a more attacking dimension and he seems comfortable with both feet

Re: Parker pre match v WBA
Think he came across brilliantly there to be honest. Great to see some passion and fire too. Don’t think anyone can/should have any real arguments with what he’s said either.
I really didn’t want Parker but I don’t think there’s really anyone who would have been able to do much more than he has with the current circumstances and mitigating factors which he’s pointed out. Unfortunately it feels like people are already at a stage where they want to pounce on every word to beat him with it.
Hopefully a good result tomorrow and Sunday to dampen some of the nonsense! UTC

Obviously it's easier said than done but if he knew the players wanted to leave he'd have done himself a big favour by getting them shipped out before the last week of the window. The Shire Claret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 4:09 pmI think something that needs noting from this particular presser is that he made it very clear that everyone here now wants to play for Burnley FC and be successful with us

Has to be pace to blame for giving vk such a free hand to sign the amount of player's he did, which has ultimately led to the subsequent firesale, it's clear that there was no structure or realistic plan with any of it.
Consequently we're left with players that are simply not good enough to get us back up basically.

That’s the most articulate and straightforward interview he’s given since he arrived.
It doesn’t mean we’re going to get any better going forward, but you can’t doubt his intentions or the fact that he seems like a genuine enough fella.

Re: Parker pre match v WBA
Interesting listen but unhelpful were the underarm deliveries to him - the question on Koleosho was almost apologetic whereas I would have asked it as “if your team are struggling to score and we all accept Luca is better on the left, is it not logical to try him there, for some or all of a game, to see if it makes a difference, and in not doing so, is that goalless match a result of your choices?”.
Similarly, after the 70%-80% of training time is in trying to score, the question should have then been “Fulham, Bournemouth and now Burnley fans all observe your teams can play with a very solid defensive framework, is that making it too easy for opposing teams to defend against us and is there a time to loosen the handbrake, for some or all of a game?”.
I don’t like to tell reporters how to do their jobs, and some degree of mutual respect with the club is clearly needed, but I’m not sure it helps any of us that they come across so subservient. I’m not sure it helps Scott either. This can be his moment to win over the fan’s backing, as seen by some posts above, so the more direct the better.

It’s 13 games in with 2 different squads, lots of injuries and a hell of a lot of other contributing factors. The reporters asked questions and got answers I wouldn’t have expected at this stage from Parker. He’s clearly aware of what’s needed and when people have set agendas this early, I don’t know what more you’d expect for him “to win over the fans backing”?

Good interview. Good questions for a change & good answers .
Scott is growing on me as a person but needs to show a bit more before he grows on me as a manager.
I have no doubt he will do that.
