Receives his first England call up.

Not sure what they've seen this season for him to merit the call up but good luck to him.

Carsley seems to giving a lot of his former U21 players a run.

Probably suits the more established players to get a rest.

Ahree. One of these good young players who these U21 managers seem to want to get capped, despite more experienced and better players available.

As for the dropping of Nick Pope - a scandal, however, best for him, as they really don't look at proper goalkeepers nowadays.

Nick has known for some time that unless Pickford is injured he won't get a regular start.

Fairly surprised, he’s struggled in the Prem so far from what I’ve seen and read. Seems a proper good lad though, gave everything on loan here.

Missed out “BIG TIME” we did on that lad. He will go on to be an England regular.

The Southampton fans remain unconvinced. They probably don’t care so much about the £20m fee because as a club they’re more used to those kind of fees, but for us it’d have been a huge gamble.

I think he’ll come good but I do think it’d have been a big rush for us, especially playing the high line we did. O’Shea and his pace was more suited to that and ultimately I think turned out more profitable (£11.5m profit inc add-ons from memory - I doubt we’d have sold THB for £31.5m this summer).

Very good for the Championship. Not currently convinced in the Prem. I certainly wouldn't say we missed out with the fee quoted.

With Beyer and Ekdal fit plus current options, wouldn't see him as a certainty in our starting 11 never mind England

I was surprised to be honest when I saw he’d been called up but he’s clearly highly rated by Carsley. Would be good to see him get a game.

We definitely didn't. He'll be decent Premier League centre half but nowhere near International class.

We didn’t miss out simply because Kompany had no intention of signing him.

Tarks is the best defender in the Premier league by a mile
Ignored by Muppet Southgate and now his replacement also doesn't recognise talent
THB is not a Premier league defender that's one thing that VK got right.

I’ll not have anyone tell me that we did not want to sign THB - that is simply not the case.

Awesome player for us, justified by a senior England call up and in my opinion, our best player when we won the league under Kompany.

We missed out BIG time.

I'm surprised but there's a certain logic in promoting U21 players to the full squad. Whether he's good enough we'll only see long term. Did a good job for us and seems like a decent lad.

You can keep typing BIG as much as you want, but he had another year in the championship and is still at Southampton

He's going to get better, but he will need to leave saints to do so
Their defence, of which he is a part of, have been terrible.

A wonderful player for us during the promotion season. I was always doubtful if he had the pace or physicality for the Premier league and that does seem to be how he is shaping up at Southampton. Be interesting to see how he does for England.

Good for him, it is was his choice. Best keeper and yet 3rd choice is pure abuse.

Thought he was absolute class for us- reminded me of Cahill when he came on loan.

Thought Beyer was equally good, I’d be gutted if the rumour I heard about him never playing again is true. Gutted for him and the club.

Tarkowski is a disgrace. Some of the tackles he puts in most weeks are absolutely brainless and cowardly. He will cause a serious injury at some point if he hasn't already.

Excellent defender who puts in strong and fair challenges that are too often missing these days.

Anything but disgrace, brainless and cowardly.

281 PL appearances and 0 red cards.

He knows exactly what he's doing. He's the master of getting the ball and then absolutely clatrering the player on the follow through

Legitimately in the overwhelming majority of cases, so not disgraceful, brainless and cowardly.

We didn't try

And if you think our playing out from the back is slow now, take a look back and see how many sideway passes THB played for us.

He was good, I’ll give you that, but let’s be really honest about it, he was often the second best centre half in the team. He most certainly WASN'T our best player, not even top 3 for me.

Good luck to the lad, he’s done well and seems a top lad by all accounts.

We enquired, but as with Tella, the price was too high. In hindsight we would have been better signing him instead of beyer.
