Brownhill

I left on 89 minutes today, which is a rare thing for me to do, as I wanted to beat the traffic and go to the Agra for a curry on the way home. More fool me for missing the goal but the curry was good!

The commentators on Radio Lancs mentioned that Brownhill was having a pop at the fans again at the final whistle.

Can anyone shed any light?

No idea but I can think of more effective ways of responding to critical fans.

Not sure what he did today, but Roberts giving his middle finger to the fans last home game
was disgraceful.

Not sure how accurate but I heard he Kicked a ball at a group of fans in the Longside lower and ended up hitting a young supporter in the car park behind the stand

I just hope as we pick up more the points the fans get back on board. The atmosphere and the support at the turf has been dogger for 2 years now

There was audible frustration when he passed a ball backwards near the end of the game without even looking up to see what was in front of him. Thought at the time he'd be whinging about it.

I left on 82 today, I was freezing and the Mrs had told me she'd cooked a chicken dinner. I was clock watching from about the 25th minute.

Time to move on from Brownhill / Cullen. Hannibal / Laurent might be better. Make Esteve captain, that might help as well.

Late in the second half he got caught in possession when he had time to play it and it nearly cost us, later Humphrey’s had it on the left when he passed it square to Brownhill who passed it backwards, everyone expected it to go forward, but in his defence Humphrey’s should himself have gone forward with it so it put Brownhill under pressure, on both occasions some fans booed Brownhill.

He played a ball back towards goal as we approached 90 mins and copped a fair amount of stick from the JHL.

He had nowhere to go to be fair.

Yes and their bloke skewed it wide. Lucky escape. I thought Brownhill didn't have a good game today. In fact thevteponwent up when Laurent and Hannibal came on.

Brownhill has always had a very good relationship with the fans, mainly because he's always been perceived as a whole heart, 100% merchant and someone who's an excellent championship player, but who has found the step up to PL football tough tbh, especially against the better teams. He's had a good career at Burnley and will have trousered a fortune over the past few years, but he's in danger of spoiling things because his game is based on incessant running and he's becoming less effective as he gets older. Also the team around him clearly isn't as good and he's used to. He's getting frustrated, the crowd are getting frustrated and he needs to look up and realise why and not ruin his legacy by becoming petulant. (if indeed he is)

If he was frustrated, it's because he cares. Key player for us.

No wonder he has to pass backwards with Anthony, koliosho, Flemming and sarmiento in front if him. Koliosho needs a rest, flemming is not a centre forward, sarrmiento works hard but is clueless, and Anthony is obviously got something on parker to be picked.

Brownhill has had a shocker today. The least captain like performance I’ve seen for a while. Not his fault Cullen was pulled instead of him tho…. He’s as untouchable for Burnley as Kane is for England.

He can do one for me.

I thought Sarmiento played well today. He was the only one of the forward players that was really busting a gut to actually get forwards. I like his tenacity too.

Brownhill was much improved over previous weeks, too.

When almost the entire ground groaned because he went backwards very close to the end, I didn't because as some have said, he actually had no choice on that occasion. We have to be fair.

Brownhill was too dithery on the ball
Antony and Koleosho made runs into space and Josh ignored them with a backpass instead This he needs to deal with and fans will moan as at that stage it looked like another 2 points thrown away.

For what Brownhill has given us since signing and the dedication and commitment for the badge …

If he’s had a do at a part of the crowd today …

I’m saying it’s the crowd and not to player at fault in this instance

Fickle sport is football

Fortunes have dictated that I can’t attend the Turf this season but have managed to see every game the thing I’ve noticed most that from the kick off the likes of Cullen is mentioned by the commentator every couple of minutes however in many games Brownhill is hardly mentioned in the first half .He must be doing a hell of a lot of the ball that the cameras can’t see.

Shouldnt be on here, and if he is, more fool him. Needs to get over himself if he needs to be around websites like this. Concentrate on your training, your game and then go home and concentrate on your family.

And if he is sad enough to be all over this on here, and he feels the need to respond to some of the shite on here, I’d be wondering if having the armband is a good shout. He’s obviously too precious to be around SM of any kind.

Like any player he has his strengths and weaknesses and is form presently is not good. But he is usually the first player at away games to come over and thank the travelling fans. When he rediscovers his form you will see our results change for the better

Sarmiento worked hard but picked the wrong decision regularly and wasted a number of good positions. He's a good player though and could make a real impact if he can begin to refine some of his play.

I thought Brownhill played well today to be honest. He broke up the play well throughout and covered a lot of ground. I think some of his work goes unnoticed as he moves things along so quickly, it tends to be one or two touches.

I think the trio of Sarmiento Anthony Koleosho will be more effective away than at home games

Does Brownhill think the team is immune to criticism?
I'd say they've had a fairly easy ride from the fans over the last 16 months or so.

Some unfair comments on him personally. Watch how he closes players down, his tackles including sliding ones. Also compare his box to box stamina compared to Flemings upfront who looked done on 75 mins. Leave the lad alone he works hard for the team. Just enjoy the win.

He’s a part of the problem, for me.

That isn’t me calling him a poor player, more that I don’t think what he brings to most games is what we need in this team.

Had more issues with the crab like performance from Cullen. Would like to see Browny and Hannibal together in that middle two. We needed some energy today. It was pedestrian.

And yet he was at the heart of everything today - playing 20 yards further forward than usual in a more creative role . Nearly every attack in the first half was started with him.

He is definitely out of form, and I'm surprised other midfielders get subbed before him, especially today.
I'm sure that he'll bounce back, and become the important workhorse that we know he can be.

He clashed with CJ in first half. CJ was trying to fire the players up and Brownhill looked to bollock him and told him to calm down. Was a strange interaction. Certainly don’t think he’s a very good leader.

He's not out of form, his job his to win the ball and give it to our creative players, but he wins it and we have no creative players to give it too.

Possibly the best midfielder in this league, should be and always will be 1st on the team sheet when available.
