Atmosphere

Poor atmosphere today again, understandable considering how we played. Does anyone just feel as though it’s harder to connect with the team? The constant upheaval year on year in my opinion is having a huge impact on the atmosphere. Players coming in that probably know nothing about the club, with one eye on their next move. I’m not a Parker fan so far but ALK transfer strategy is a huge concern IMO.

Yup, aired my concerns when we started signing so many players en masse. Feels a bit plastic doesn't it?

I think Parker can change that though, if given time (to build a culture back).

I think we need to build this culture again 100%. Players who want to sign for Burnley and not for the manager. Seems like we are selling the move to a lot of players as a stepping stone.

Intensity in football matches is what produces atmosphere.
It's no surprise the last 17months have been poor at the way we have played is pedestrian and slow.

It's that simple. Build pressure build atmosphere.

Let's not do this "connection" thing again.

Let's face it, if we weren't paying decent wages there wouldn't be many players who'd stick around. It's a job to them, there's likely none other than Jay who are here through love of the club.

String a few convincing wins together and people will be back to normal.

Look back to when we started with Kompany, people were doing the same at this point of the season. By the end of the season the same people would have let him in bed with their Mrs.

I agree with this. There’s zero intensity in our play. Not a lot of fire. It just doesn’t feel as though anyone is giving their absolute all at the minute.

How connected did you feel when we were battering Luton and Cardiff at the start of the season?

It’s such a lazy line to use, you support the badge on the front regardless of what name is on the back.

The atmosphere was really poor today and not helped by the numerous absentee home spectators (understandable after the "run" we've been on) and weary scattering of away supporters (understandable with the ko time on a Sunday and them being mid table also rans) Nothing some exciting, attacking football, a few goals and several easy home wins wouldn't sort out!! Over to you Scotty! 😊

Turf games at the min feel like dead rubbers - like they have no meaning, and the players have nothing to play for
Like the final game of the season of 2 mid-table sides

Games arent going our way with goals, and there's not much impact from the bench
Seriously needs backing come Jan or we wont make top 6

Totally different team played them 2 games, the intensity of our play should start from Trafford and I think he's that thick it takes him ages to decide it's a goalkick.

Lazy line...and what does it actually mean...when did it become necessary to feel connected to a team?
I never heard it mentioned till last season

And after these two games we sold many of our key players.

You say it’s a lazy line to use but the atmosphere is shocking at the minute and looks like it’s only going to get worse. Was the atmosphere ever this bad in Dyches time? I don’t remember it being so bad despite some pretty shocking football on offer at times.

I’d say Ashley Barnes is the prime example. Not the best technical player but he gave everything he had for this club and the fans got behind him and he was a fan fave most of his time at the club. Players like this help boost the atmosphere. We currently don’t have anyone like this IMO. Under Dyche, we had countless players like this…Tarky, Mee, Cork, JBG etc

It’s a chore to watch at the minute. I got absolutely no thrill from watching that game. Parkerball is dreadful up to now. Time for him to make amends though.

It’s happening at every single club across the country, fans are being priced out, this tippy tappy crap every club wants to play is the opposite of an atmosphere builder.

It doesn’t help that we have been on a downward trajectory for the last 3-4 seasons so fans are just not as engaged.

To connect you have to know the team and to have a hero or two. Can't see any of the latter in this team but it doesn't help changing the team and selling the better players every year. On top of that the football being dished up now is dull as dish water.

What sort of atmosphere do you expect when watching a team that hardly ever scores goals? Crowds don't get excited if there's nothing to get excited about. On the rare occasions we start to build a bit of pressure, the crowd always responds, but we can't be expected to chant constantly about playing aimlessly from side to side. Considering how turgid the football has been recently, I think the atmosphere has been pretty decent.

So stop trying to blame the fans - it starts on the pitch.

Feel like you know what I mean and are just being pedantic. It’s fine for us to disagree with each other as well.

I’ve been watching Burnley for 30 years or so now. I’ve had many heroes over the years and felt more of a connection to them. No I don’t personally know them, but you know that. I think it’s quite sad that you say you haven’t had a similar feeling with players over the years although I suspect you have and are just being very pedantic.

How have you felt when your fave players have moved on? It’s obviously gutting to see a player move on but luckily in a lot of my time as a claret we’ve had a conveyor belt of players that have stepped into their shoes and become heroes in their own right. At the moment watching BFC, I don’t feel like there’s anybody here that I look at and think ‘this is going to be a Burnley legend in years to come’.

Contrast Zaroury and Anthony - the former loved by fans with his own chant that really lit up the first half of last season. Yet Anthony has also scored and assisted, and nearly scored a similar spectacular today.

I feel every time Zaroury got the ball he would turn, face the fullback, and look to go either right (goal vs Sunderland) or left (assist vs Rovers). It was very direct.

Anthony gets the ball and shuffles with it, or turns backwards. But there is a player there. It feels like the coaching to me. It isn’t engaging the fans.

Just one example but we could pick them all over the potch. I’m being harsh I sense.

I think ALK have made huge mistakes.

Parker football is boring
The huge turnover in players
The ticket pricing
The summer window really killed most people’s expectation and hope

It's really tedious to watch at times, plus I do think there's a widening disconnect between the club and supporters, particularly since the start of last season...and it hasn't improved this season. I don't think it's anything to do with ticket pricing, but that's just my opinion. Huge mistakes made on and off the pitch with personnel and as some above have said, a high player turnover again hasn't helped.

The team have to lift the crowd.
I'm sure that the crowd at times, can lift the players as well, but the only way it changes is if we get on the front foot, play at a hell of a lot faster tempo, and create chances.
I feel for the players, it must be hard for them, but it's a bloody lot harder watching it from the standzzzzzzzzzz

The atmosphere is pretty flat and it's no wonder. The football that's being served up this season is utter dross, against teams that are plodding at best.

Another month or so of this and the players will be wishing the atmosphere was just a bit flat. I think the crowd have been incredibly patient so far.

People go on about the football being dross, but there was more atmosphere when I watched them in the 4th tier with Rocket Ron Futcher. That was dross football.

Two reasons for poor atmosphere.

1. Even though we had most of the ball, it was 8 and a half minutes before we managed to pass the ball to a Burnley player in the final third of the pitch.

2. In four home games, there have been just 2 goals, both penalties.

How are we supposed to get excited?

It’s not changing anytime soon. We’ve a perfect storm of a fanbase recently inflated by tourists and corporate types. Everyone is pretty old, myself included. Groups of lads aren’t really welcome.

As for football, we all know deep down we’ve peaked as a club and are regressing to our natural position. The football is achingly dull. Nothing happens. There’s no ‘connection’ to anyone other than Jay Rod, for whatever reason.

It’s not a Burnley thing, you get the same vibe at Stoke, West Brom, Hull. We’re just meandering quietly along now. Enjoy our club’s middle age for what it is, like a mundane trip to a garden centre.

I couldn’t accuse anyone in this team of not giving their all. The Millwall game aside, where we just didn’t turn up, I think the effort is there. The execution clearly isn’t but the fact we are 4th and keeping the back door shut does suggest that we have something to build on.

As for the atmosphere, I thought the crowd picked it up well in the second half and got behind the team probably more than the football deserved. But as others have said this style of football that everyone is now playing doesn’t lend itself to jumping of your seat and roaring the team on.
