Anthony's disallowed goal at WBA

Post by randomclaret2 » Mon Nov 11, 2024 12:01 pm

Nixon saying the linesman on Thursday said the goal was good but the referee over ruled him.

That just shows how out of his depth that particular referee was.

Some would say it points to a brown envelope.

He had a alternative agenda for sure, to make sure we didn't win. I sincerely hope his next bowel movement is a very large, prickle pineapple.

Cheating. Pure and simple or incompetence which should result in loss of job

He had one from WY in a Leeds game once. Surprise surprise decisions went their way.

Not sure that a linesman would disclose this to Nixon.

File under bullshit.

Can a linesman actually give a goal?

He seems to be getting desperate now - he had plenty to say on Blackburn's disallowed goal earlier in the season when he got it completely wrong. You can just imagine a linesman contacting Nixon to tell him that can't you?

Totally agree with you TheFamilyCat.

I can assure you that plenty from West Yorkshire would be more inclined to give results in Burnley’s favour, and not just those of us who are Burnley fans.

I don't see how the assistant could possibly have seen anything. Anthony's back was facing him. The ref looked like he had a good view. He gave it as he saw it.

A poor decision from a poor referee, nothing more, nothing less. They always hurt more when they cost you points.

Not sure why you think that? The assistant would have the better view as properly positioned he would be looking at the back of the defender and would see the contact whereas the referee is viewing through the bodies in the box.

Swings and roundabouts. Some refs wouldn’t have given a penalty on Sunday. Not saying it wasn’t one, just interpretation.

It is not that the linesman disclosed this to Nixon. There is a system now where refs and linesman all lodge opinions on major decisions which is then assessed after the game for transparency, this isn't a hush hush convo, it is information which the FA have and use

Only just watched it for the first time.

Pure incompetence by Nield. Decisions like this contribute to why people are turning away from football. Disgraceful !

Nixon is no ordinary mortal, he can play Jedi mind tricks on Burnley fans.

Not too sure but as much as I don't really like Nixon, in the piece he wrote he clearly explained what had happened, not just that it been divulged in another way, he explained that:

"However it has emerged that that linesman, who had a better angle on the incident, gave the goal on the internal system between officials just before Nield ruled it out"

Well that just sums up why var is needed in cases like this. The ref was completely unsighted. How is he supposed to be able see the stairs inside a windmill in old Amsterdam from the wrong side of Birmingham?
