Any how Excellent news.

A great opportunity for the lad; training with some of the county's top players can only be a good thing for him. May be a while before he gets game time though.

No doubt some of the superstars will be telling him what sort of salary they’re on and he’ll be wanting away .

Perhaps it is just to get more money for the broke Manchester City! Just tips the balance on their finances and ends 100+ other charges!

Or it could be he was a successful under 21 player, next in line
Do you like any Burnley player?
Or anything about the club ?

Of course that will be the reason. Whether one thinks an U21 keeper is ahead of other hardened, experienced, professionals is another question. U21 managers seem to think they are.

My post was taking up this point made by BurnleyFC.

'If he gets a cap, it’ll also increase how much we have to pay for him'

Nothing at all to do with his elevation or whether he is great/rubbish at all.

It is an honour for the young lad and for Burnley FC. No question. I wish him well.

The rest of your post I will put down to the misunderstanding.

Will be good experience for him, being in the senior camp

It was always viewed that way when Pope was younger

Also shows that his form has been noticed

You do realise it's nothing to do with us, actually. He's playing in the Championship. Those not playing in the Premier League never get call-ups. It's because he played for U21s under LC. They need someone they know to be in goal during training. That's as deep as it goes.

He'll never make it as our number 1. Still not confident enough in his 6-yard area and with corners. Pretty crap with his feet. Makes decent saves and has good positioning, but never a dominant, imposing, international keeper. I hope I'm proved wrong.

The way things are going, if there was going to be any £100 million player - he looks the most likely.

He’s definitely improved this season but is slowness in releasing the ball is his major fault.

Reminds me of the keeper at Leeds he struggled at first and got bullied a lot on crosses but he's has improved into a fine keeper just like Trafford will.

Can't be compared . the quality of the 2 leagues is chalk & cheese. He's had hardly anything to do this season, in all honesty.

Completely agree with dvalley69.

He wasn’t as bad as was made out on here last season for a young GK and given what was in front of him. Likewise not had anything to do this season so his clean sheets are more a reflection of what’s in front of him also.

If we go up and he starts conceding again he also won’t have regressed - it’s just the quality he’s facing.

He’s a young keeper learning his trade that needs support.

Agree about the need to speed up and improve his distribution but that will come if this new Keeper coach is any good and being in the full England set-up can’t hurt either.

From our side probably adds a fair amount to the final fee!

He’s done a bit better coming for crosses, has also flapped at a few that led to chances better teams would’ve punished. Thankfully for us and him they didn’t and they get forgotten about when nothing comes of them.

He got hung out to dry by Kompany in my opinion. This level was the next best one for his progression and now he’s showing his quality. A full season where every tiny mistake isn’t brutally capitalised on, with a solid defence in front of him, will do him the world of good and showcase his potential to everyone.
