RIP. While I didn't agree with his politics, he was a good old-school politician. Not like the snotty nosed straight out of University types that we get lumbered with today.

Supposedly a link between Bliar and the party's grass roots.
Not sure it actually fooled many although the left(?) hook was a good watch.
RIP Fatty 2-jags.
If you can’t leave a respectful comment on the death of someone, don’t comment at all.

I met him once and I always thought he came across well.
Didn’t last quite as long as some other prominent Labour politicians
James Callaghan - 92
Michael Foot - 96
Denis Healey - 98

A proper old school Labour man and respected by all sides of the house . An unlikely swordsman too, in what must be one of the biggest kiss tell tell stories ( Moneywise)of the last 50ys. Threw a very tidy left jab as well . I see in a cruel twist of fate, Jaguar are trending on X .

John Prescott was an ordinary bloke. A good Socialist and a hardworking MP and Labour stalwart and Dep Leader.
I gave him a lift once!
He visited Salisbury with his batman and he gave his short speech l, in the Market Place. Election time. Then he waited while I collected the car and took them to the station. Onward to next speech in a constituency.
Short chat in car. Very straightforward.
Thanks for being proper Labour, John.

Flawed character, but a proper politician with no airs and graces, a welcome antidote to many in Parliament. RIP.

RIP John Prescott. The current politicians do not possess one great strength you had, and that's a genuine connection with the British Public, and in fact to the real world.

What I’d refer to as “Old School”. Great character and stood firmly for what he believed in. R.I.P. John Prescott.

Not as prominent but I read earlier this year about a former Labour MP and Minister (Patrick Duffy - Navy Minister) who recently released a book about his life and he is 104

For a politician I really liked John Prescott, seemed like a down to earth fellow who stood up for what he believed in.

One of the old school that believed in making life better for all; the reason the press like to troll him as two jags. Sadly he didn’t fit the profile as a modern leader, a job in which I believe he would have made the country a far better place for the majority. RIP

He did give us the M4 bus lane.
But good value over the years, enjoyed his last canal programme before he had a stroke.

Somebody above, I can’t be bothered checking, called him a good socialist. There are no good socialists. He was a good man though. I thought he was strong, funny and definitely had some fight in him. He had every right to clock the bloke who egged him.

104 is some innings. You never know he may even turn up in the shower as if nothing has happened when he does pass on.
RIP John Prescott. Certainly kept us entertained back in the day.

That clip is brilliant.
Both Hague and Prescott were brilliant orators.
Prescott was a big strong character. He often **** himself in the foot as he was never going to be somebody who just toed the party line even if sometimes that was to the detriment of his party or his leader. He was far too divisive to ever get elected as leader of his party and he was probably more useful to labour in opposition than he ever was in government.
I’ve also met him via work and he was not the nicest of chaps if I’m gonna be honest. But i think few politicians are. I’ve met quite a few and I can only think of a couple who spoke to other people with respect and genuinely seemed to be listening. Prescott was like most….shouty, wanting to hold court and spoke to people like they were something they had just stepped in.

Imagine going to "work" to basically take turns in standing up and insulting the person opposite whilst your colleagues bay and roar their approval from the rear. As is often said, the last person to enter the H o P with goo dintention was Guy Fawkes...

It's best just to ignore the troll to be honest. Keep this thread respectful rather than rise to silly political arguments.

Last time I went in the ticket office it was run by Jim Thompson, Peter Davis was running the club shop and my mate Craig Green was also working there

Sometimes it's the people that respond berating the offending post that are just as bad. It should take 1 person who's already put the person in their place that's all that's needed everything else increases the likelihood of things going awry.

I did like the way he tw@tted the knob who chucked an egg at him and told Nicholas Soames to f##k off everytime Soames shouted "2 gin and tonics, waiter", when 2 Jags walked past him in The House. Quality banter! As for politics, he didn't impress.

I take quite an interest in politics and have done since my late teens. I hadn't realised those 3 lived that long. None from memory had been career politicians. I worked from 71-73 in Cardiff and Jim Callaghan was MP for part of Cardiff that included a very deprived area called Splott. Julian Hodge was a merchant banker born in London but lived and worked in Wales and founded the Commercial Bank of Wales. There was graffiti for a time stating "Jim loves Julian more than Splott"
Loved the story about John Prescott who would balance his cup and saucer on his belly whilst sprawled on a chair and even did so in the company of Prince Charles. John certainly had the belly for his cuppa. An MP for 40 years speaks volumes for his capabilities and work for his constituents, even if his politics was not quite my cup of tea.

After that I think he said he likes to ‘connect’ with the constituents.
