Jay
Hands up, Jay. My apologies.
You delivered a performance today I didn't think I'd see again.
Looked much sharper. Lots of runs, linked up well. Came deep to help the defence. Unlucky to hit the bar.
Great to see.

Looked good for the first half definitely, not sure he's up to 70 minutes though, started getting really sloppy but I'm sure the conditions didn't help

The 2 central defenders will get MOM but for me Jay Rod ran them both close

Re: Jay
Yep, the legs .may go but the football brain is clearly there for all to see. Top.performance, Jay and I have to eat humble pie.
Re: Jay
He’s a clever footballer our Jay and certainly knows where the goal is! He might not beat a man for pace very often anymore, but I don’t think his game was ever really built around his SAQ anyway.
Re: Jay
Great performance from him today. Having someone up front who knows what he'd going made a massive difference.
What a sight to see him motoring past a BC defender deep into the second half.

I thought that he was outstanding today. Put a full shift in and looked dangerous at times.

Even at 35 for 60 minutes Jay Rod can be as good as any number 9 in the league

Re: Jay
Brilliant performance up top, exactly what we've been missing!
Re: Jay
Good game today. I felt we lost control once he tired around 60-65 minutes, as he was a key component of most of our attacking play, so hopefully he’s fit enough to go again Tuesday.

As always, a level above the rest of the division in the brain and technically. He's never been a number 9 but he might finally have reached the stage of his career where it's his best position. We just have to make sure there are players close to him and players running behind when he drops deeper.

Offered far more than we’ve seen from any other striker this season.

Re: Jay
His best performance in yonks, some lovely hold up play and he brought his younger team mates into the game. I’d still like to see us sign a couple of strikers in January though.

Did well, looked injured at the end.
Playing a game is not the problem, its the recovery time afterwards.
I'd certainly keep him in.

Unlucky with the two headers, one hitting the bar and the other blocked

Re: Jay
Shane people have to think of starting such threads because they’ve not offered a player the support he needs and deserved.
Interestingly the 16th game two seasons ago was the one at Sunderland and Ashley Barnes.

Re: Jay
Yes, nobody can really write his value off to this team after that performance. He made us play better by bringing others into the game. Others who are nowhere near as good as he used to be in finishing off yet because they are so inexperienced eg Koleosho

Yes, but the manager hasn't actually played him enough, which doesn't help...ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 3:08 pmShane people have to think of starting such threads because they’ve not offered a player the support he needs and deserved.

Said a couple of weeks ago that he'd be playing for me. We have plenty of legs in the team and just a bit of nous and experience to knit things together will be really useful. Bit unlucky with the header.

Some of his passing was sloppy, which is unusual for him.
Put in a good shift today though.

Re: Jay
Another apology here.
Jay-Rod was a key player for us today, both going forward and defending; he worked hard to achieve all that and looked knackered when (even before) he was replaced. But one good game does not a season make and I hope that we've someone else available for Tuesday night.

Re: Jay
Great performance -such a shame though that with the substitutions available in todays football, that he was forced to play almost whole game. Says a lot about our shortage of strikers. I hope Foster was watching him today-he could learn a lot from Jay's experience

Re: Jay
Bearing in mind his age, and lack of game time, I think Jay put in a proper shift, which has been recognised by the fans. I think Jay would stuggle to repeat this once or twice a week, every week, but for me he has now come back into contention as a first teamer

Re: Jay
Great performance from him yesterday, looked every bit the most experienced player on the pitch.
I recall a moment in the first half where he had a misplaced pass to Bristol player around the half way line, but Jay tracked him all the way back to the edge of our box and won the ball back with a little help from Roberts. Superb effort.

For the first time, we played him as a centre forward and that was what we have been missing. He was in the box and taking defenders. Previously, we have not had anyone 'getting in where it hurts'. Goals will flow now. Not just an extra passing link.

Re: Jay
The last time he was properly match fit at this level he’d got 12 goals in half a season.
Good to hear he’s looking sharp again. Plenty to offer.
