His Holiness is the best Burnley keeper that I have seen.

Stop moaning! I have already written that he did that well, yesterday. His long kicks were useless, however, that was also forgiveable, given the conditions.

I read the player ratings after every game; I do wonder why posters can't just stick to posting their ratings without the (often prejudiced) summaries.

Not getting to many games these days (due to circumstances beyond my control) I enjoy reading the poster remarks. I take the average feel of them and use them as a guide to judge other posts by the posters based on their pet hates and bias.

With all due respect that article says more about the poor level of goalkeepers at Newcastle United in the past.

I agree with Elwaclaret . I enjoy reading the posters’ comments - but that doesn’t always mean I’d agree with them, or take them seriously. The add a bit of light and shade. IMHO.

You didn't watch Tom Heaton?

Pope was outstanding for us , I remember one away game at Southampton where he made 3 world class saves and it just seemed like an every heat event.

To be classed as good or better than Pope as a pure goalkeeper you must be very very good .

We have been blessed with some outstanding goalkeepers at Burnley in my lifetime watching the Clarets.
Colin Macdonald Adam Blacklaw Tom Heaton Nick Pope who have all played many games and now our current goalkeeper, youngster James Trafford has shown that given time , he could well reach the standard of the previous mentioned keepers.

Traff is improving game on game and this was evident the way he overcome Bristol attackers trying to crowd him out as the corners were delivered

I appear to be the victim of some mod editing. I posted this and the rest of the marks, which showed he was up there with the rest. However, that has been removed on an entirely different thread and classed as 'duplicate'!

Sometimes things on here are bizarre.

Because many people tell those of us that do it that they value it and enjoy them, sometimes even strangers in a pub mention it when knowing our user name. The ratings thread is often the most viewed after a match and it gives people a feel for the game.

But as a courtesy to the thread I usually try to keep it to one post on that thread, not back and forth debate.

Not once did he cause me heeby jeebies as you put it, the only time I felt they were likely to score was when they went clean through and he stopped that.

He got a 7 mark, and a positive comment. How I felt at corners is my feeling. Glad you missed it. We're you there?

You're wasting your time. He hasn't got a clue.

I recall one incident where he came to the near post to punch away a corner but a defender headed it clear. It didn't lead to anything and didn't look like it could have done. There was pass out that went to Cullen under extreme pressure (would have been wiser not to do this pass) but Cullen dealt with it - I think that was the one that lead to the Hannibal/McNally foul. A couple of long balls out of touch. Other then that Trafford did everything you could wish for in our goalkeeper.

In the length of consistency over time, pope stands out as the best keeper we have had.

Yet some how my answer will always be Heaton. I genuinely think until his injury he was not only the best English goal keeper but possibly the best premier league goal keeper. My mate who supported united would have swapped de gea in a heart beat for him.

Footballs moved on now so that unless you have the ball playing ability's of Ederson your no longer classed as a world class keeper. There's an upper echelon that your likes of Popes and Heatons will not achieve by title.
But the reality is a keeper who stops more goals than another, will always be the better for most. It's big club thinking with the nice football. I'm glad a club as well supported as Newcastle can probably appreciate your likes of Pope more than a Chelsea or Arsenal ever could, although judging off the article some of the Newcastle faithful have the big club mentality too.

It's why managers such as Dyche may be dying out in the game but also why they can carve out a niche and get success in what they do.

Clough had it right. You all know your job. Wingers, you get to the line, cross the ball. Strikers. You put the ball in the net. Keepers. Keep it out.

Doing the basics world class still means you are world class. Some people forget that.
