Ferguson - loan from Brighton
Sorry if already another thread about this. Doing the rounds this morning that he’s on our radar when the window opens. He’d be absolutely ideal for us in my opinion. Highly rated last 2 seasons and has a huge price tag. Can we see this one happening ?

Would probably be the best loan signing a Championship team had ever made. Can't really see it when Brighton in top form are using him from the bench.

Surely Nathan Tella has the accolade of best Championship loan signing?

Only scored one for Brighton in the last 12 months.
A drop down and regular football might be very beneficial.

Me either, but if it’s confidence and form he’s looking for he’d more likely find it at a top end championship club than struggling premier league club.
Not sure if he’s mates with Sarmiento too?
It would be a smarter if less probable move, I think.

I read earlier that Leicester are also interested. I'd say this one is very unlikely, but it's good that we seem to be wanting a striker.

Mentioned it on another thread a couple of weeks ago that I would be delighted with Ferguson on loan.
Just can't see him willing to drop down to The Championship or Brighton willing to let him go. Maybe Cullen and Sarmiento can persuade him?

Let's see how long it takes now before Leeds are rumoured to be interested. Every window they seem to be after the same players a few days later.

Would be a good move if it's doable. Whoever we get it needs to be on 1st Jan. SU and DL will not be ******* about.

He’s played 105 mins in 7 appearances and only one of those was a start and he played 60 min in that
Take that game out and he’s played 7 mins a game

Re: Ferguson - loan from Brighton
Completely agree with this. One whole month is like 12% of the season or something and we have to play the other top sides that month which could be six pointers in the context of the season.summitclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 11:10 amWould be a good move if it's doable. I’m hoping we’re alive to this and working on deals now to start 1st Jan (and train earlier if at all possible). Presumably we’ll be going for players surplus to requirements elsewhere who want games, so it makes no sense for either party to delay.
If we’re after two players and one will sign on Jan 1st and the other wants to mess around considering options I’d just go for the player committed to the move.
Re: Ferguson - loan from Brighton
He's leaving in January on loan 100%. This i know for certain, his agent has been instructed to find a club.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:26 amOnly scored one for Brighton in the last 12 months.

I am not certain he will find a top level club, unless it's a club abroad. He is considered to have regressed massively. If we can get a version of the boy firing as he looked 18 months ago then you're looking at a real prospect but otherwise I think people might be getting carried away a bit.

Re: Ferguson - loan from Brighton
Be very surprised if this is doable. Given he has a past track record in the Premier League you'd expect goal shy Premier League teams to be interested first.
More plausible might be someone like Divin Mubama, who moved from West Ham to City last summer and hasn't had much first team football. But everyone will be chasing a striker in January so bringing anyone else will be easier said than done. With hindsight, Tommy Conway would have been a smart signing in the summer.

Can’t see the guy who recommended signing loads of players in the same position having adjusted his data base to let us have a balanced squad

Unlucky to buy him, also linked with Chelsea today with a rumoured £100 million price tag placed on him by Brighton. (Can't blame them as they know Chelsea would be stupid enough to pay it).

Bring him and Tella in on loan in January and we get promoted. The stuff that dreams are made of.

Don't most players and their agents just wait to see what's on offer before making their minds up?summitclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 11:10 amWould be a good move if it's doable. Whoever we get it needs to be on 1st Jan. SU and DL will not be ******* about.
Thus, it'll be nearer the end of the window than the start when good players on loan get snapped up.

Re: Ferguson - loan from Brighton
Jay/Barnes worked in the last Championship season as we had a player who ran beyond and stretched teams, obviously that was Tella. We just don't have a player at the minute with that mindset.
Flemming isn't a number nine. Foster likes to run onto the ball, he really struggles with his back to goal, he just isn't a focal point.
I would however like to see Foster and Flemming together to see if they can dovetail each other.
It really is the conundrum for the rest of the season and one that needs solving if we want to finish in the top two.

Re: Ferguson - loan from Brighton
Foster is not reliable enough … between not good enough …. Mental health issues and prone to injury … he needs to go and be replaced with a striker who canscore goals at this level

Re: Ferguson - loan from Brighton
Definitely go for him but as an idealist I wish in a parallel universe we had signed Delap in the summer. Physicality, power, able to hold up, finish, and bring others in. Never rated him for other clubs but he was well thought of at City and in hindsight may have been destined for the top all along. A bit like Egan-Riley in that sense who is now suddenly blossoming, touch wood.
But that ship sailed. Ferguson on loan I would be happy with, 6 ft, some physicality (not as much), good finisher, lively. Also just what we need. We may be what he needs too (if BHA could be persuaded).

Do we have space for another loan player. How many allowed in this league?
Re: Ferguson - loan from Brighton
All but one of our loans are to be made permanent, I cannot see those players being left out for someone only here for a few monthscolne-claret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 7:28 pmCan have as many loans as you want but only 5 in a match day squad at the same time. Unless we turn one permanent in theory we have one left.

Sorry I meant permanent in January. I agree. They’ve all played a big part. Unlikely to see any of them go back in Jan. Imagine we use one more loan in Jan though.
Re: Ferguson - loan from Brighton
Yes I know what you meant. Only sarmiento is on a "normal" loan, and could in theory be recalled.colne-claret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 7:37 pmSorry I meant permanent in January. I agree. I could see one more loan coming in.
Brighton value Ferguson at 100m ( not sure how), don't think players valued by their clubs that high, go on loan to the championship

I don’t think players they value at 100m sit on a teams bench. If he were valued so highly he’d be starting and nowhere near being considered for a loan move.

It’s designed to put people off,all we would be doing is loaning him for six month which in my opinion would catapult us into clear favourites for the title.

More likely complete twaddle and paper talk (the £100m valuation).Robbie_painter wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 8:35 pmIt’s designed to put people off,all we would be doing is loaning him for six month which in my opinion would catapult us into clear favourites for the title.
Of course the story of our interest could be too, but I think it’s more likely to be true than the £100m valuation story.
I agree that it would catapult us to clear favourites and frankly this is the type of January we need the Board to deliver after an awful summer - not in terms of who we lost, that was fairly inevitable and we did some decent business, but the upheaval and timing.
Although I think Tella or Bruun Larsen could have a similarly positive impact.

Yep, the same thing happens every time with them. Brighton currently have seven players listed as "strikers" so it would make some sense to at least let one go out
Fulham have also been linked as well as Leicester so really can't see him coming to us
