Josh Brownhill

A standing ovation from the Ashton Gate faithful when he left the field. A very popular captain and underrated player.

Playing in his best position, his work rate and covering (observed from an upper tier halfway position) allowed Cullen to have his best game this season and released Hannibal to present a real threat at the business end.

Unfortunately he looks to be crocked and will probably miss the midweek game, so Laurent will have to step up and Cullen will wear the captain’s armband. Big shoes to fill after yesterday’s game.

Sadly I think we are going to have to get used to having no Brownhill around the squad.

I think he made nearly 150 appearances for them.

A very popular captain and underrated player - a this level I agree with this wholeheartedly

He’s fantastic at this level and we’re very lucky to have him. He’d get in every other Championship team.

Work rate is excellent as is his positional awareness, covering when other players step out (although I’d sometime prefer we just throw caution to the wind in those situations and commit men instead).

Anyway, hopefully he re-signs but I suspect there will be a team somewhere willing to pay him more money, as o the next best thing would be for him to have the best season of his career and take us back up to where he found us as a farewell.

On replacements, I’d much rather see Hannibal play his position, which is actually what I thought he was bought for, and Sarmiento in the 10. Feel that offers a lot more attacking wise, especially at home against a struggling Cov side.

He has been a super signing for us but sadly he will be gone come the end of the season think i read yesterday he's 28.... so in the prime of his playing career one last move to a decent Premier league club and good luck to him he's been good for us.

Have never understood why so many knock him. His work rate is phenomenal, unfortunately I don’t think he will be with us next season whether we go up or not.

It’s because he’s a top 6 championship player and the we have spent 8 of the last ten years in the premier league.

He’s just unfortunately one of the those players that can’t make the step up and as a result he’s probably not as a highly thought of similar level of players from the past.

Arfield is the best example for me. Always very well thought of but very similar level of ability.

Pace needs to get his finger out and extend his contract. But he likes doing the opposite of what the fans want doesn’t he?

An understandable option for him would be to wait until the summer and at least see what division we are in.

Brownhill is absolutely excellent at Championship level and although he's human and has the occasional below par game, I'd have him as a permanent on my team sheet every match. Having said that, we've seen him play plenty of games at PL level too and that (considerable) step up I believe he struggles with and he's nowhere near as consistently effective. It often surprises me when he's linked with moves to PL clubs, but maybe it's just me.

I'd have Hannibal and Cullen in a 4-4-2 and thought he was the quietest of the midfield three today. That said the formation and balance of the team looked good today and Hannibal, Cullen and Brownhill all offer something different and are a very good combination.

If he's out of contract in the summer I'd happily take a good offer for him in Jan as I think he's replaceable and not worth losing on a free

I don't think he is underrated. He was at a struggling championship side, and he got a move to us when we were in the premier league. For the majority of his time at Burnley, he's done a steady job, but unfortunately (for him) no bigger club has come in for him when we have slipped back into the championship.
When his career is over, I think he will look back on it as a success.

It was on sky highlights after his handball he defended in the corner and his left ankle slipped from under him. He immediately grabbed it. As said above hopefully a strain and he could even be fit for mid-week with modern treatments.

I think that's unfair and frankly a lazy comment. Fans have an opinion and it's formed from what they see. These 'other' opinions' may not agree with for example yours but should be respected. They pay their money as you do. As for Brownhill and my opinion he is a very decent player at Championshio level. He has a good engine. Not very creative though but a positive in our team.

He's had an issue with his ankle, first happened away at Blackpool when he slipped on the touchline. Think he did it again later on in the season.

Hopefully not too bad but the last couple of times saw a short period out.

I thought he was very good yesterday from what I could see. Playing a little further forward and certainly linking well to setup attacks. Scores goals, arrives late into he box - if a PL side needs that kind of player in their squad then he's good enough for the PL.

Vital we keep Josh until May then let him go on a free. We did that with Tarky and it gave us a fighting chance. It is “promotion this season or next, or bust”. So cashing in for a few quid is folly, if the player is still busting a gut for the shirt, which he is.

Great game yesterday because he was able to play to his strengths, unfortunately whether in the championship or premier league his close control in tight areas is normally very poor and therefore possession is often lost. That explains why he is not playing in the premier league now and why he frustrates many fans on many players occasions IMO.

Josh Brownhill has never given less than his very best for Burnley FC. I'm amazed at some of the negative comments about him TBH.

Wonderful player . I always believe he is better as a n attacking midfielder making chances for our forward players.
Bristol City fans were broken hearted when he left them.
I rate him highly and would definitely make the bench in my all time best of Burnley team ( that’s in my living memory.)

It was reported I think from the question & answer session that Matt Williams & Pace were at that both him & Roberts had been offered new contracts, he also said in an interview that he would decide at the end of season? Personally I think his agent will do a deal in Jan with an over seas club to maximise his value.

I spent a good few minutes thinking about “sizeable vocal minority”. I’m talking about people who are just plain wrong, factually, and don’t really care about facts, but still make lots of noise about it. If ignoring facts and turning their views into opinions, ok. However I didn’t want to write ignorant loud mouths who know nothing about football but you forced my hand.

If he was that good then there'd have been plenty of takers over the last couple of years after being relegated twice. The reality is there hasn't coz he's a very limited Championship player. In the right system, he's very effective but not someone you'd want to rely on.

He doesn't need to leave to be missed. Bastien stood in for him at Sheffield United 2 years ago and we all know how that worked out.

Josh is one of my favourite players and it's pity that he gets judged as inadequate when pitted against some of the best midfield players in the World at the next level

Very easy to criticise when the reality of playing in a team of limited ability is a factor.

You don't know what you have until you don't!
