One of the worst I've ever heard at Turf Moor. It must be difficult to play with intensity in that. It's like a friendly

The players need to lift the fans Jay Rod is coming back to the halfway to pick the ball up,after Saturday’s first half I was expecting all guns blazing tonight instead of a pop gun without a cork.

So, so little to get the cold fans excited in any way. On the plus side at least there isn’t a drum.

Nonsense. Fans on the continent sing whatever is happening in the game. The fans should be the instigators for getting the team going. That's our job, not to sit on our arses and wait for the players to gives us some excitement. Are we back in the Roman times watching gladiators fight? Get behind them whatever, sing for 90 mins and you might feel a bit less cold, too!! Clapping and singing warms the cockles up.

Load of crap, who wants to clap like a demented sealion when there is nothing to get excited about, you'll be wanting some goon with a loudhaler, with his back to the game next an exciting game creates an exciting atmosphere.

when you go on the turf, you have to remember there are dunces sat near you. new manager, team in an automatic promotion spot, and there are clowns calling for his dismissal and replacement.
with a chunk of crowd that thick, its highly unlikely a good atmosphere is going to be conjured up.

No surprised about this thread st all. Very poor tonight.
Poor crown in general numbers wise also.
Couple of cov fans heading back to town we're saying same. Worst they atmosphere they had experienced. They weren't having ago just surprised it was so flat when wete top end of table.
I don't really know the answer.
As a team we go going just before half time with some sustained pressure and that was the only point the crowd got going.
I though we were decent tonight, moved it quicker at times. Solid as usual, a few shots and couple of goal with a clean sheet. Can't ask for much more when you put it like that but there is definitely something missing to create atmosphere.
I don't know what that thing is.
A full house would be nice but understandable on a cold midweek night.
The fact we don't play Saturday 3pm very often..is this a issue?

So you'll clap like a demented sealion when the rest are because something exciting is happening, like a corner to us, and sing "COME ON YOU CLARETS"? But only then? Sod the team if there's a lull in the game and the team need some motivation & backing? Precisely my point - you're like a Roman wanting blood just to get a bit of an excitement hit, entitled to the core. You're not really a fan are ya, just when things are going good, miserable git. Lighten up and get behind them even when there's a lull in the game.

Think its a combination of things really. The football isn't that great to watch, there's no real excitement about going back to the Prem, and the walk on/casual fan has been priced out.

Clearly never been to a game in Germany or Italy. We could learn a thing or two. 1000% better than English atmospheres. There's more atmosphere from a few thousand in 3rd division Italy than at an 18,000 crowd at the Turf.

The crowd was very thinned out tonight.
But the atmosphere has been poor for years. We prefer to price out the fans that would create an atmosphere or ban them for doing laddish things.

It was a lacklustre affair tonight, with very little noise from the Longside or Bee Hole. Poor for a night match, but I think the performances and lack of goals this season has taken its toll. Boro on a Friday night will be a different proposition.

Clearly, people want it to be organic and natural, yet at the same time will criticise the atmoshere when it isn't great because it's ultimately the team's responsibility to set the tone, in their opinion. It's funny really, coz teams/managers are judged on winning and how successful they are... but it seems that footy fans are changing coz that's clearly not enough now.

Not convinced to be honest.
Awful attendance tonight and atmosphere to match.
Club should be doing much more to boost attendances.

They might have got some atmosphere going before kick off if we could have heard what the guy was saying about Jays 300 appearance and the music wasn’t so loaded that you couldn’t hear the “one of our own” chant for him

Love threads like this. The answer, if you are fed up with quiet, is to get a chant going. It doesn't happen by itself, someone has to get one going.

Agreed, and precisely why we need some goons, as somone described it as previously, to get things going when needed. Maybe not persistently but when things are happening. Give everyone a free hip flask full of brandy/bene & hot on entry I say when it's cold. That'll get everyone up for it

Bit of a pointless thread this I think… don’t think the atmosphere was much different to usual , though the crowd was inevitably lower given it’s a cold midweek night. The fact that so many people don’t seem to be bothered about watching the last 6 or 7 minutes of both halves doesn’t help but overall nothing to see here really, move along and talk about the actual football.

You can only help create an atmosphere by actually attending a game....given the time of many posts criticising the crowd, the posters must have been watching on TV.

Spot on. I get a sense of lots of people sitting on their sofas being critical of people like myself having spent my evening actually supporting from the stands.

Unbelievable that anyone would complain about the football tonight, just as good as what was offered up under VK 2 seasons back. The only reason anyone could think it was boring is because we made it look so comfortable. Awful support, entitled bunch and just so expectant of 3 points.

It's been shyte for a few seasons now.
You struggle to buy walk on tickets with the number of modern day family day out supporters who bought and reserved season tickets and lots of them don't even bother to turn up on cold nights like tonight.
Success has killed the atmosphere

Fully agree. It’s such a tired point. It wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t going to be - it’s a home game against Coventry, who weren’t up for getting out their own half much, in freezing cold conditions after a run of pretty functional football. I imagine if you plant the same variables in other clubs, the end result would be similar.

I mean I'm pleased with the performance in general, I'm delighted with our defence and I thought we showed flashes here and there but I think calling folk awful and entitled if they hold an opinion other than this performance was up there with peak VK ball I'd politely suggest you're over egging the pudding a bit.
