Coming off at the end via rear North Stand

Post by Woodleyclaret » Wed Nov 27, 2024 7:54 am

The path via the side of the cricket pitch needs more lights especially when some clown puts an anti personell trap with spikes sticking out everywhere in the way.!

Yes - assuming you mean the pinch point by the club shop... that hostile vehicle barrier was a menace when the crowd was leaving.
I thought the same.

I think he means on Ormerod Yard by the cricket ground. There was a vehicle barrier half way up there which was quite frankly dangerous given it was packed walking up there. Then when you did negotiate it and get to the top there were cars flying out of the cricket ground.

Yes those two contraptions on Ormerod Yard were quite simply an accident waiting to happen. When walking up there after the game in a large grouo of people they were difficult to see, there was one security chap stood up against the fence, he gave no verbal warning in advance to anyone, the objects in question should have had at least say flashing lights, anything that could warn you. They were bordering on death traps. The Club need informing that they are dangerous and to be honest completely unnecessary.

One driver coming out from the cricket field car park almost mowed us down as we were walking across Belvedere Road - really idiotic and dangerous.

Ridiculously dangerous on both counts. I had to sideswipe, along with everyone else, at the very last moment. Didn't see the flattened barrier or the civil man, until I was there.

Then a white car insisted on driving through the crowd as we evacuated. Wake up Burnley FC!!!

I think the necessity is beyond our own judgement (I'm sure the police and other authorities have a hand here, not just BFC) but they need to be much more visible in a crowd.

We did a lot of work on this through the old Supporters Groups and I do know that the cricket club have been warned countless times about allowing people to drive out like that. It was a big, black 4x4 that was coming out when I finally got to the top, but that barrier on the lane was dangerous and downright stupid.

I've reported it this morning.

All we could think of was that somebody had misread the memo regarding the placement of that barrier. Was it intended for the exit to the cricket club car park (which would make sense) but was incorrectly placed on the pedestrian exit on Ormerod Yard?

I raised it with one of the guys in yellow overalls at the traffic lights who was quite frankly a bit arrogant. He just kept repeating "it's for your safety to stop vehicles". I tried explaining where it was placed but he was having none of it.

Also - who's bright idea was it to let the giant articulated truck go down Belevedere Rd when the crowds were leaving? There was a poor bloke in a wheelchair who came "nose to nose" with the truck as he was wheeling himself up the road. They either close the road or they don't; so everyone knows.

they are anti ramming devices, to stop cars in case of terrorist attacks, not traffic control

great devices, not sure how good the placement was as i saw both placed in locations which have large crowding.

maybe theres intel around car attacks, who knows.

The placement was ridiculous. Downright dangerous, the lighting is the worst in that area of Ormerod Yard.

As stated above they are to hopefully stop an attack by vehicle on crowds but I can't see any reason why they can't have either

Lights and warning signs.
A barrier behind moving people either side

I among other walked directly into it last night.

They have all sorts of bits sicking out total madness to surprise people with these even if they are needed

I think there’s been some crossed wires on the barriers

The anti ramming barriers are on HPW and temporarily “fixed” into the road on match days.

The one the complaint is about is a movable metal/plastic barrier that somebody decided would be useful to place in the busiest walkway in Burnley at 9:45pm

thats the ones i'm on about, the yellow ones on wheels, they are anti ramming devices. they just need to put some lights or barriers around them so people can see them. they need to stay

i'm sure people would prefer the safety they bring.

Yes, to stop a car ramming into a crowd of people.

They were also in situ at the end of Tod Rd to stop, you guessed it, any cars ramming into a crowd of people.

smashed my knee against one on the way out last night and suffered with pain all the way home for the 4 hour drive. Still sore today. Bloody ridiculous idea placing them half way down the pedestrianised road.

Which makes me wonder why they placed them partway down as apposed to at the top! nonesencicle whichever way.

They need to stay? If the one on Ormerod Yard stays it is just a matter of time before someone is injured. Putting anything around them won't make a difference, it's packed on there walking up to Belvedere Road.

Stick a report and complaint in for the injuries, that might make someone see sense.

I'd say anything that improves security in this day and age is a good thing, if there was a car ramming into crowds people would be complaining that no measures were taken.

As I said above, they need to add some lights or signage to to make them more safe, but I think they are a good addition and a necessary evil

They've not done it to deliberately injure people have they, they've done it to protect. Granted not well thought out, but I'm sure they can improve

If it stopped a car ramming into people halfway down the ginnel it would be really good, but it's quite easy to think of a better place to stop it

If the purpose is to prevent vehicles driving into crowds of people then it need to be at the top at Belvedere Rd where the gate is

Having it halfway down is pointless

I understand where ypu are coming from but ... Its dangerous to put those sort of barriers up in a narrow walkway where a few thousand folk are trying to walk up in the dark. I saw a couple of folk almost walk into them in the crowd as they were not easy to see through a crowd. Especially when you are in conversation with the folk around you and not expecting a barrier.

Tony is spot on put lights over them so folk can see exactly where they are.

The thought behind them is that it's away from the road if a car bounces off it doesn't cause a pile up.

There's no reason it couldn't be 10 ft from the road though.

I'm agreeing that placement and awareness could be improved, but the idea is a good one. Retractable bollards would be better, even the ones on harry Potts way are a nightmare when you see them putting up and down. Should be electric ones.

Yes as I said, the execution of them wasn't great.

I imagine there will have been some sort of risk assessment done, but it wasn't working was It.

Definitely not ...

So no doubt like the fencing and the rubber footings a few years ago causing trip hazards around the car parking (TV trucks) behind the North astand, it will be looked at and made safer ... everyone wants to be safe walking to and from The Turf 👍

I think you have misread or misinterpreted what I've said, I've said the placement and the lack of warning for people that they are there isn't good.

I standby the fact that these devices are a good addition though. I'm sure things will improve next time

Anyone driving a car at speed would have to have run over a few hundred people to get to the barriers before it stopped them from hitting the rest of the fans walking away from the ground. I don’t disagree that they may be necessary, but where they were situated they were effectively a chocolate fire guard

I wondered if they were placed that far down the road, so they didnt block the road when removing for the team coaches turning off Belvedere Road. I has seen them before the match but still got caught our after the match with a dense crowd
