I'm trying to think of anyone in our side that can hit a ball so hard and keep it on target. Brownhill may have the power but lacks accuracy.
AH reminded me of a certain Peter Lorimer, who older readers will remember from his LUFC days. He had the most powerful shot I can recall.

He does look like he strikes a very clean ball, a goal or 2 would do wonders for him.

It's difficult to judge Hountondji, I'd hoped he'd have played a lot more especially with Lyle missing.
He obviously has something, he scores for Benin ok.

It might just be a case of getting used to the hustle, bustle style of British football, but if he does he could be a great asset going forward.

People forget he’s come from Ligue 2 in France, which is nowhere near the standard of the championship. Obviously has talent but will be a big step up. A couple of goals and I’ll think we will see a player.

He's been brought to Burnley by people who know far more than me about football.

Dont assume anything from the few minutes he's been given.. people on here were writing Ings off after more minutes than this lad's had.

And yes he looked like he can whack a ball.

I like the look of him in the few moments we've seen him. You can see he has some understanding of the game by his movement. I'm not sure what he's like in the air but his shooting certainly looks promising. He of course has a lot to learn but there is something there.

It’s been noticeable in his brief appearances for us that he loves a shot . I mean he tried one that was blocked when he was about 30 yards out just after he came on last night and before the one the keeper saved . Also at Millwall he had two long range efforts early on…. He’s seemed almost comically/naively keen to get a shot off at any opportunity to do so. Makes a change amongst our players but the jury is obviously still out as to whether he can cut it at this level.

It was a good block for that first one last night. Looked a decent effort.

To have the confidence to try his attempts is very nice to see. The potential problem with a player with confidence like that is that fans suck it out of him until he's afraid to shoot. Hopefully that won't be the case and I'm sure if he's doing it too much the manager will mention it.

He needs to get more game time, especially at home - I think there's a player in there.

To criticise Brownhill based upon one shot is a bit bonkers. Browny has five goals to his name already.

The likely reason that Hountondji doesn't play is precisely because he can run quick and hit powerful shots because that's his game what is less evident is his lack of ability to play with his back to their goal and lead a line. Same problem as Lyle.

And that is why Jay Rod is playing and tbh we have have improved noticeably in the last two games.

Yeah, he would benefit from playing more - anyone would - but the fact that Flemming and Foster are injured and we're starting a 35 year old Jay Rod in consecutive games makes me think nobody on the coaching staff is quite convinced yet.

Well short of the mark-desperately needs to go on loan as he must have talent and he appears to be popular with the team

Edited that. We must hit row Z more than any other side in history. Truly awful from outside or inside the box when going for power.
He looked far more comfortable last night. Hoping he can make them performances regular and goals will surely follow.

That may be a more astute observation that some think so I’m happy for the nod and it’s something I’ll be watching for now.
For the first time last night I though he looked purposeful when he came on.

One of the hardest shots I've seen on the Turf was that Blake volley versus United. It had pretty much hit the net and bounced back out by the time Ben Foster even dived

I like him, and I think he'll be a good player for us. That shot though, I thought the keeper did well to stop it without getting an injury!

He’s got a proper crack on him. Strikes it clean and hard. I have no problem with the Lorimer comparison. He doesn’t need to have played for 20 years for us to be able to rate how hard his shots are. One shot can do that.

And there’s no real criticism of brownhill here. Just an observation that sometimes his shooting can be a little erratic - and it is. Certainly with a dead ball. I’m sure we can all hear the groans when he stands over a 25 yard free kick. He hits a moving ball well enough though, just to give him credit where it’s due.

Anyway, good to see AH having a crack - I wish more would consider the shot as the first option when around the box. I think with a couple of goals and a run in the side, he will be a threat up top.

So Houdonkey can kick like a mule!

On a serious note, in his last couple of appearances, I thought he looked sharper and more ready to try and shoot, than previously. Good signs. It was a strong shot.

Powerful unit. He needs to play. He won't improve sat on the bench.

I think hes only 22 ish and built like an outhouse with a powerful shot , id like to see him with more mins in a game to help him, Id try him for first half instead of Jay and then bring Jay on when the defence is possibly battered

I'd be more prone to do it the other way around. Keep with the tried and tested (if Jay has recovered) and then give Hountondji more minutes, depending on how the game is going. Come January we'll hopefully bring in another forward so I wouldn't want to give him minutes for the sake of it as he might not be good enough to make the bench come February.

If he has a powerful shot on target in his next game comparisons will be made with Eusebio

I was quite frustrated at the end of the game when we had a corner with 30 seconds to ho and we decided to waste time,ultimately giving away a goal kick, I thought a proper cross in and see what Hountondji could do with his head if aimed at him would have been a better option.

Never understood why when a corner comes in our forwards are up and around the keeper, in other words they have to jump from almost a standing position. When you have some height with Esteve, Hountondji, Lauren, why aren’t we trying some of them to go further back and come running in to meet the cross, more spring in their jump and more confusion for the defenders.

If anybody remembers Len Kinsella, mainly a Burnley Reserves player in the 60s, he had a hell of a powerful shot on him

I have noticed that one pundit who is always singing his praises when covering our games or on commentary is Chris Iwelumo often remarking “he just needs to do this” or he just “just needed to do that” when he has been involved in the play. Perhaps Scotty should ask big Chris to pop in and give him a bit of one on one coaching.

Trippier could get a lot of power into a shot. I always remember the cross he put in against Leeds that they scored an own goal from. He then celebrated right in front of the Leeds fans in the CFS

Harris had one hell of a shot on him.
Probably the most powerful I've ever seen on the Turf.

Considering he is built like the proverbial I have yet to see him seriously challenge for an aerial ball

Bomber was good with his left fist too I'm told, as Adamson found out. But I doubt I've seen anyone with a shot anything like as powerful as his left foot.

Absolutely this!

Movement of any kind causes a problem for a defender and as you say the momentum makes it easier to get an advantage on their opponents.

I remember years ago some paper did a check on who had the hardest shot in the old 1st division. Both Alex Elder and Gordon Harris were placed in the top 10 with Lorimer winning. SuperCasp comes to mind with the ability to hit the ball so sweetly with either foot and Jonny Francis could leather a ball but last night the sheer power of that strike surprised me. I bet the keepers hands are still tingling.

To be honest, it was well struck but I didn't think it was that much in terms of power to be honest. Elder was definitely another with a hell of a left foot shot on him.

It really wasn't. We all see shots hit harder than that all the time.

I remember Alex Elder hammering the ball past Gordon Banks from way out.
However,the comment about loaning out another striker is puzzling.Obafemi may not be everyone's choice but imo it was shortsighted to loan him out given Fosters unpredictable fitness
.

From more recent times, Anass Zaroury. I recall his goal against Sunderland which appeared to be no more than a clip, fairly flew in.
