There was another manager who won a league game at Stoke too, a scrappy 1-0 Cullen scoredClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 6:43 pmStoke v Burnley report

"An interesting one given he was playing alongside former Blackburn defender Ashley Williams who received no interest at all from the travelling Clarets."
Do you mean Ashley Phillips the young centre half on loan from Spurs?

Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
It really looked as though the Stoke fans "broke down the door " to get out.

I know you don’t like VK or anything associated with his tenure, but to omit him from the list of managers that have won there is poor.

Eight visit to the 365 and that took to me to two defeats and five wins.
I preferred it in the corner also. Better viewpoint and funnily enough the ground seemed smaller from there.

I did and got his name right on the team at the end of the why I put Williams I’ve no idea but now corrected.Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 7:11 pm"An interesting one given he was playing alongside former Blackburn defender Ashley Williams who received no interest at all from the travelling Clarets."

I haven’t. I added him a while ago when I realised the error.wadeswondergoal wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 7:48 pmI know you don’t like VK or anything associated with his tenure, but to omit him from the list of managers that have won there is poor.

Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
Unfortunately I’ve managed three defeats, 2005/96, 2009/10 & 2016/17 but it’s been a good ground for us.
I decided not to go when we first played there in 1997 in the League Cup given we were already 4-0 down from the first leg.
Much better in that corner. When I went last time the view wasn’t too good. Only problem yesterday was having to climb up to row 34.
Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
It does seem a good ground for us. I've only ever seen us win there. Like most out of town grounds i hate visiting them though.
Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
There were plenty of empty seats near the front quite a few moved down there after kick off, but still loads freeClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:03 pmUnfortunately I’ve managed three defeats, 2005/96, 2009/10 & 2016/17 but it’s been a good ground for us.

Good report as always
Splitting very minor hairs with the report. I just don't think what we have in front of us will be a slog. We are in a great position and we are getting better and better

I think that's the first time I've stood in rail seats, which I thought were great for my 6 year old to hold when stood on a seat.
I have been to the ground since 1997 but enjoyed the corner position on Saturday best.

Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
Great report as always - thank you
The support was awesome also yesterday
I went to Stoke around 1999 where I think we drew 2-2 and where we equalised late on - I think Glen Little came on and he made a big difference
Hazy memory though - crowd was great then too but I was only a kid

They did sing Delilah yesterday, can't remember if it was towards the end of the first half or not but they definitely sang it.

Totally agree about Cullen-one of his best games for us. Involved in every build up play, and he won us the second goalClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 6:43 pmStoke v Burnley report

Good report. Second half was as good as I've seen for quite a while. My first visit was in Nov1963 and a 4-4 draw. My hero, Jimmy Mc, playing for Stoke who were 3-0 up at half time and a gate of nearly 38,000.

Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
At his very best yesterday wasn’t he? So many games when we’ve pointed at the central defenders as the inspiration for a result. They both played well again yesterday but Cullen stood out.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 9:59 pmTotally agree about Cullen-one of his best games for us. Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
I heard it twice but very half heartedly. It definitely wasn’t played over the PA before kick off which I found strange and I’m sure it has on my previous visits.

Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
And no big blasting of it from the crowd that we’ve heard so many times. It disappears when they are losing which is the point I was trying to make.
Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
Yes, half heartedly indeed. I had a quick scan through the first half and there it was, 10 minutes into the game. We sang Chim Chim Cher-ee and they tried drowning it out with Delilah to some ironic cheers from the Burnley fans. They managed a couple of choruses but it died out. Sounded rushed. maybe it's falling out of fashion with their support?
Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
I remember the 4-1 win under Ternent and the away end singing ‘Where’s Delilah gone, where’s Delilah gone!?’ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 10:35 pmAnd no big blasting of it from the crowd that we’ve heard so many times. I suspect they’ve stopped playing it over the PA for the same reasons the Welsh RFU stopped playing it at The Principality.

Thank you for the report Tony.
Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
Ah. I never knew that. I sort of presumed it could be lyric based but thought it’d be more around the fact that the Stoke fans have changed (I think) the lyrics to a more sexual nature.Cheshireclaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 5:12 amI suspect they’ve stopped playing it over the PA for the same reasons the Welsh RFU stopped playing it at The Principality.

I was there when one of our players scored an absolute screamer from the right back position pushing forward.
Can't remember his name for sure, was years ago.
Anyone recall the one?

Dean West and Ally Pickering both scored screamers, as did Matt Lowton albeit for a different claret and blue team.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 8:27 amI was there when one of our players scored an absolute screamer from the right back position pushing forward.

Would have been the promotion season under Stan, think Payton scored 2. Only game i've ever set off to and not made it due to traffic problems. The Shire Claret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 9:08 pmGreat report as always - thank you

We were the same, stuck on motorway, managed to turn around at Warrington at 3pm.
At least radio lancs covered our games then.

Re: REPORT: A good day in the Potteries without Delilah
I went on the coach that day and got stuck in the horrendous problems on the motorway. Being in front of most people having gone early with a planned stop, I phoned the club to see if they could get a message out. I got someone in the ticket office who told me they were there to sell tickets and nothing else. I managed to get through to Gary Hickson at Radio Lancs and he made sure they got something on air quickly which at least meant some fans avoided the M6. We literally got there, without the stop, around 5 minutes before kick off.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 9:52 amWe were the same, stuck on motorway, managed to turn around at Warrington at 3pm.

We were in the Whalley range pub in Padiham waiting for 2 lads to finish work so no shouts on radio lancs unfortunately.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 10:47 amI went on the coach that day and got stuck in the horrendous problems on the motorway. We must have set off about 12.30 to 1.
The driver promised us he would get us there in an hour.
