Cheers for that, Vegas, he's just about to give the third part of his talk in a few minutes.

Some fascinating stuff about Andy Lochhead, Bobby Charlton, Harry Potts and Jimmy Adamson.

Just been listening to the Dobo interview on Radio Lancs, what a brilliant interview it brought back many memories about the club the managers the players and of course the great man himself he talks as well as he plays “ what a player”

I'll do a bit of name dropping here and report that Dobbo phoned me around three weeks ago about his book and maybe arranging a book signing session. I suggested speaking to Barry Kilby about using the Royal Dyche (he'd done one there).

It's going ahead this Thursday there from 1 until 3 p.m. if anyone is around and wants to get a signed copy.

Wonderful footballer and an even better person.

In my top five of all time Clarets. Interestingly, I used to have an Everton mate when I lived in London before leaving GB. He said that he thought Dobson was Everton's best ever player... along with Trevor Steven.

Clarets legend in so many ways.

One of only a small number of Burnley players to appear as a team member on ‘Question of Sport’ (when it was a proper programme).

I feel a quiz question coming on here about who the others were? :D I'll kick that off with Ben Mee, seem to remember him being on but can't remember if it was still good then.

Rolls Royce is becoming a bit overused as a descriptive term, but in Dobbo's case it's spot on.

Had he played for Man U or similiar he'd be a household name.

At the CM dinner in 2010 we had a couple of the two young players who had won their first pro deals sat at our table, one of whom was Michael King. We established that he was an Evertonian and I just said: "And your boss played for Everton," that being Dobbo. He said he was his dad's favourite player.

Two years later, Dobbo was the recipient of the Supporters Groups Special Award and we had a few of his 1973 team mates there too to support him. They were sitting with the then manager and his staff who were at their first such event. I introduced Dobbo to Sean Dyche, Tony Loughlan & Billy Mercer but when I got to Ian Woan, he just said I didn't need to, he knew who he was because he was his hero.

I've said it so many times and will always be happy to repeat it, but no one at Burnley Football Club ever treated this website and me with more respect than Dobbo. Great player, those of us who saw him all know that, but he's an even better person.

Many thanks for posting this.

Just started watching. All clubs make mistakes on players and Bolton did with Sir Dobbo. Difficult to imagine him as a centre-forward.

There have been other players who've changed positions and benefited from it but it's relatively rare (I believe).

Thank for the 'heads up'. An ideal stocking filler. One of our greatest and captain of the team that if not broken up would have gone very close to winning the old first division. Hard to find the best adjective to describe Dobbo, but for me would have to be 'elegant'.

Totally agree with this. He was one of those players who seemed to 'glide' across the pitch. We've had others; Leighton James, Trevor Steven and more recently Jay Rodriguez. Almost looks a lazy, languid stride from these players who all just oozed class.
Was at Wolves in 1967 when he made his debut at centre forward and I think, but prepared to be corrected, that he scored his first goal for us at home v Man Utd. in Feb 1968. A 2-1 win, coming from behind to win with 10 men after Cas had taken a dislike to Francis Burns.
Moved to midfield a few months later amidst some young players and the rest is, as they say, history. What a player, servant to the club and gentlemen.

As a kid in the 70s,one of my best mates Uncle in Clitheroe was Martins brother. When he was transferred to Everton, I was invited along to his home debut at Goodison.
After the game, which I can't remember at all, I was asked if I wanted to swap allegiance and keep on going to watch Everton.
No thanks was my reply, and so I'm now rapidly approaching 60years a Claret.

Only just got back to this thread PLC.

As well as Dobo I think Leighton James was also on QOS possibly in the same year?

When I was at Burnley Grammar School in the seventies they had an ‘Evening with’ and Dobo and James came along to give a talk and Q & A session to follow.

It was amazing to see our heroes paraded in front of us. A lot better than listening to Nobby Stokes and Panter. 😉

In the early 70s (maybe 71) Dobo and Bumble came to Burnley Grammar and gave a talk followed by a Q and A to an audience of very awe struck boys.

It was quite noticeable that although we were also big on cricket at the school that Dobo was asked the most questions. He was an absolute star that evening.

What a couple of gentlemen to take time out to talk to us.
And they still are today to this day.
