To sing: the lullaby carol, which we had to perform every year when we visited the children's ward in Westminster hospital. Just shite - and I was on Dec. Anyone on Cant. just got to sing lullalullalulla for the whole bloody carol.

To listen to: pretty much anything sung by Americans - and that rather limits it on the carol front as they only seem to know three:- deck the halls, joy to the world, and the tiresome song of the bells. And, it seems, that even when the American films are supposedly based in the uk, they have "British" people singing those three to keep the dumb muricans happy. That's like showing a film of city v united and the soundtrack is them both singing you'll never squawk again.

Obviously The Pogues and Kirsty will still be played in centuries to come. It is a folk/rock classic that transcends mere holiday frivolity. It uses an original format to deal with drink, drugs, romance, addiction, love, homesickness, emigration and death, all in a few fleeting minutes marking it out as an all-time classic - that just happens to be played at Christmas.

Can a song not become synonymous with Christmas without necessarily directly referencing it? The video does retell the story of the birth of Jesus. Stay Another Day not included on the same basis despite both songs regularly receiving lots of airplay this time of year?

Coincidentally all of the best ones were the ones played non-stop during m'y childhood but that's just a happy coincidence and purely down to luck and nothing else.

One of the few I've got little time for is Driving Home For Christmas.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned I believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake it's a beautiful song.

I voted for " stop the cavalry " as the worst song, & still stick with that choice , but have just been to watch / listen to a brass band .
The second choice of music played was " stop the cavalry " (actually a war song) & it was brilliant.
So it's obviously the singer not the tune

More likely, you've heard it but don't realise that it's Mariah Carey that sings it. It's been played to death in supermarkets, shopping centres, radio, etc etc since you were not quite so old.
