No need to comment on our performance; those that were there saw it for themselves whilst the ones that didn't go on have had ample material to peruse over. One aspect of the game nowadays is it appears that opposition players are not required to be 10 yards away from the ball a ymore when it is taken. Has happened regularly this season. Has there been another tinkering of the rules that I'm not aware of?

I know it was hardly ever enforced anyway, but goalkeepers seem to be able to hold onto the ball for as long as they want these days.

It's all becoming unacceptable where is the blood and thunder of a good championship game wingers flying down the line beating players 3-2 scorelines crunching tackles which would all get the crowd to their feet.To say I'm becoming disillusioned with football is an understatement and going on to watch it is certainly becoming a chore

It's a trend: pointless passing and possession dominates; it's the current coaching trend. I hope it passes soon.
Whatever you think of him, I agree strongly with Marcelo Bielsa's view:
"I am certain that football is in a process of decline. More and more people are watching this sport, but it is becoming less and less attractive. We do not favour what made it the best sport in the world."

Also, a free kick can be taken anywhere up 25 yards away from where the offence took place eg right at the end of the game there was a foul on a Derby player right in the corner of the Bob Lord and Cricket Field and the keeper took it from a position further forward than their penalty area and about 25 yards upfield!

They are trialling a rule change in the U-21s Premier League this season where if the keeper holds on too long (I think they’ve made it 8 rather than 6 seconds) it results in a corner to the opposition.

I read that but thought it was a joke. Just apply the rule that already exists, you dumb *****.

Has a keeper actually been sent off following a booking for tinewasting? Again we see the keeper delaying things from the start, then sitting down…………only near the end does macho man wave the card, but in reality there’s zero chance he’d wave it for a second time so what’s the point?

Have you ever known us to be so high in a league whilst putting in so many poor performances?

Perhaps that's because 'Performance' is being conflated with entertainment.
We haven't got the quality up front so I'm not sure how it is going to get better. It just encourages teams to sit in and take the point because that is a good result for them...!
We still dominate the game even if it's crap to watch.

Worst watch ever.
Football is about pace, efforts on goal, tackling, getting a swift cross in, super saves and blocks and goals. All result in lots of oohs and aahs.
A match in England was full of it, making the leagues the most watchable.
Along came Guardiola and Potter and boredom is the result.

Every ref does the same. You won't see a keeper booked before the 85th minute.

I'll stand to be corrected on this but I don't think the goalie can be sent off for timewasting so the booking no matter when it comes is merely academic. I think Aston Villa's goalie fairly recently was sent off mistakenly and then rei stated for a penalty shoot out.

Of course they can if they get two yellows.

Emi Martinez did get a second yellow card in their penalty shootout win in Lille and wasn't sent off, apparently cards are not carried over into penalties. As far as I know they can be sent off for two yellows for time wasting or other offences.

Plymouth, Preston, Swansea, Derby, QPR- 5 dreadful performances in the last 7 home matches. No goals apart from a couple of free gift penalties. And yet we got 9 points in those 5 games which seems almost like a good return.
For me, it's as entertaining as watching Burnley at the top of the tiddlywinks league. There should be more to the game than just results.

Good report.
It says there were hints of booing at the end of the second half, that was because we had possession of the ball in their half with 30 seconds to go and we fannyed about with it passing back.

Good report that CT. Thank you. I was nodding along to the report as I was reading it. We are third in the league, but the fare which we are being served up has to be so much better than what we are currently being exposed to.

It was so bad again I was hoping for an early second half Derby goal. We might have then seen some kind of urgency and a kick up the arse.

That's a good question but there were a lot of really under par performances two seasons ago as well, I was close to despair with the way we played at Cardiff as one big example. But in terms of the football, many matches have been substandard to be fair. Dyche's second promotion season had it's concerning games in the first half of the season and game 20 that season was the awful performance in the 0-0 draw at QPR.

Why is that weird, we conceded first against Portsmouth and went on to win. A goal against would have likely gave us the rocket needed.

A fair and balanced report as always Tony.
Our attacking options are very limited. Anthony played 31 times for Leeds last season in a team that failed to gain promotion. He only started 2 of those 31 games. Sarmiento played 20 times for Ipswich but only 5 of those were starts. We also have Koleosho who has probably only played 40 or so games in his whole career at a high level. That is a lot of responsibility on arguably our 3 most creative players.
Even though on Tuesday I would have liked Sarmiento to have played behind Jay I understand the reasoning to rest him and Koleosho. If we had started Koleosho, Sarmiento and Anthony for example, as legs tired in the second half and we needed to freshen things up, who could we have brought on to change the game and provide more energy? A couple of years we often brought Benson or Tella on to terrorise tiring defenders. At the moment we don't have that option.
The injured players are really starting to hurt us now as another poster mentioned on another thread.

I thought we had turned the corner from this type of performance to be honest and was really looking forward to a dominant attacking game from us. It was so disappointing a performance it's strange had we nicked a goal late on Wednesday wouldn't be to bothered about the performance but I find it very worrying how we reverted back to our previous awful levels of performance just when we thought we had clicked.

I think expecting a goal late on Wednesday was over-optimistic, frankly. Sometime on Thursday or even Friday might have been more realistic.

One of my favourite things in football is going down the rabbit hole on Wikipedia and then coming across an obscure footballer you'd thought had long since retired playing for Kerala Blasters or whoever.
A bit closer to home this time but the match report gave me cause to check the line ups again and I was surprised to see Craig Forsyth still at it. 35 now.
He played against us for Derby over 10 years ago now, in the game where Martin was sent off a little unfairly but had generally been a nuisance up until that point so it felt like justice.
From memory, Derby were in the chasing pack for 2nd place and this sent us a few points clear. Might have even been them in 3rd.
David Jones scored the first with a looping volley and I'd just turned 29 so it was a lovely present. Here's the match report if anyone's arsed.

We didn't have a striker in the team as per Millwall that's the issue.
Had Jay Rod played and to a lesser extent Koleosho it would probably have felt a lot different.
But Jay Rod is 35 and Koleosho only 20 with half a season out with injury so how often you can play them twice a week is debatable.
