SPOTY
Sir Mark Cavendish lifetime achievement award. Great stuff.
However, on stage to applaud him were 3 other Cycling Knights of the realm and the female equivalent, a Dame.
When they achieve, those cyclists achieve!

Think you’ll find Christ was a male winner… but I’m sure that’ll end up cancelled at some point in the very near future….

No - all greats sports people.
I voted, online, for Sarah Storey.
Can't quite come to terms with 3 women doing the presenting though! Clare Balding is exceptionally though.

Can’t believe that England’s greatest batsman Joe Root hasn’t won it.

The BBC certainly highlighted all the sports they don’t cover.

Re: SPOTY
Very difficult for a cricketer to win it as it’s a public vote and the BBC show hardly any cricket, and Test cricket is probably a “minority” sport compared to Olympics, PL etcStonehouse wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 10:40 pmCan’t believe that England’s greatest batsman Joe Root hasn’t won it.

Re: SPOTY
To be fair Stokes won it in 2019. - the only cricketer since Test cricket disappeared from the BBC in 2005, but Stokes got it for his remarkable exploits in the World Cup which were on terrestrial tv and got a lot of coverage

Re: SPOTY
Kevin deserves a knighthood IMO given his charity work.
What he did for his mate, Rob Burrows, before Rob's passing and what he has done since is truly remarkable and so so selfless, although I note he already has a CBE.

Re: SPOTY
KH is a worthy winner imo , Olympic gold in a blue riband event is an incredible achievement . The show itself though just feels a bit lacking in content ( I guess the bbc have so few broadcast rights now ?) It used to be a huge kinda “ national event “ type show but just feels a bit generic . I was rather hoping Alex Scot would be dressed like a prostitute again ( yes I know she bowls from the Pavilion end) but still .

Re: SPOTY
Should have been Russ Cook. He risked his life running across Africa for charity. As sporting achievements and being aspirational go it knocks spots off all those that were in the sanitised BBC mix up.

Spoilt at the end by not wishing us Happy Christmas
Why can every other religions festivals be named whilst Christmas and Easter cannot
Seasons greetings what for the football season?
It’s a holiday only for one reason Happy Christmas
Image the uproar if the BBC called Eid the Festive season

But don’t let the facts that ‘season’s greetings’ has been around as a phrase since those notoriously woke Victorian times and the word ‘Christmas’ is all over the BBC spoil those thoughts for you.

Re: SPOTY
I get that the bbc is a sea of woke etc , though if you really really wanted to be wished a cheery Christian “hale fellow well met” Happy Christmas ! by an ogre like lesbian or indeed a black lesbian or maybe both together ? This could be procured on the internet somewhere other than the BBC?Spike wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 7:42 amSpoilt at the end by not wishing us Happy Christmas
