Substitutions

Possibly amongst the worst I have ever seen. Completely killed the game off. Took off the two best players to begin with and then opted for Rodriguez over Foster. I'm lost for words.

Point away from home, clean sheet against a top 6 side over a busy Christmas.
Bank it and move on.

Just said same coming off.
On the flip side there was probably a little eye on another 2 games this week. Need to use the squad a bit.
Midfield looked a little leggy tonight.

Squad rotation with an eye on 2 huge games in next 6 days

Huge fan of Parker, but he got the starting 11 wrong tonight, and subs too.
There hasn’t been much rotation, despite having the squad, and our decision making across the pitch tonight reflected that.

Need to give the guy a break. Anthony ran all game and looked shattered. Subs don't always work, that's just the way it goes.

I was pleased Sarmiento was brought on as it felt like a bit of magic was needed at the time. I’m sure there would be moans by people if he hadn’t come on, along the lines of ‘he’s got Sarmiento on the bench, a match winner, why not bring him on????’ Anthony was playing well, you don’t take Brownhill off so Hannibal was probably the best option to sub.
Flemming was a bit off it tonight I felt so subbing him off also felt right. Jay had done fine in the team lately. The question is, would Foster have been ready for 20 minutes of action or are they bringing him back slowly, given a relatively lengthy absence?

Subs didn't work tonight but they weren't negative as I've seen some people say- Parker clearly wanted to go on and win the game.

I'd have brought Foster on earlier, but those subs could have easily made the difference on another night. We can't be complaining after the fact, because Anthony ran all night and was out of juice.

Hannibal wasn't one of our two best players

Nothing wrong with the subs but they didn't work. Like people have said that's the way it goes.
Boro forward caused us a few problem closing down quick when he came one.

Worst subs ever? Not even close.
Personally I thought there was a good case for Koleosho coming on for Hannibal or Laurent to give us an option for a ball in behind or wide left to beat Boro's aggressive press - they were pushing high and contesting the space at times and we were a bit narrow and comgested at times. Equally Foster might have offered that sort of threat. But Sarmiento has been good recently so it wasn't that outlandish to bring him on to play a similar role to Hannibal with perhaps a bit more creativity, and of course Foster is only just returning from a long lay off and needs careful management.
I'd be surprised if we don't see changes on Wednesday.

The problem with the majority of the subs tonight was that, Sarmiento apart (because I could see the logic in this change), you are bringing on inferior players and they had no impact.

I said “amongst” the worst.
Maybe, on reflection, that was a slight overreaction but I’ve seen Scott Parker do that before. Hannibal wasn’t playing as well as he did the other day but he was just starting to grow into the game and take control. Sarmiento wasn’t bad but the other two offered nothing.

We were getting a bit leggy, not surprised with the substitutions really.

I think the subs were fine.
They were positive, added pace and trickery plus experience with time to make an impact. Definitely not even close to the worst I’ve ever seen or amongst the worst I’ve ever seen.

He clearly didn't see Frédéric Nimani.

The subs, quality wise, are on the whole not good enough to change a game. Defensively, yes but offensively no. Koleosho is having a difficult time; not in the starting line up and then coming on in place of Hannibal without his defensive capabilities almost becomes a liability. There was a game there to be won tonight but I thought that as the second half went on it became a game to be saved.

We played well last night
Anthony, for me, was having his best game of the season
Brownhill, whilst he missed the best chances, looked like our main chance for a goal
Taking those two off killed any chance of winning the match
The players coming on had nowhere near the same effect

Wrong subs wrong time disappointing to loose points to a very average team but 6 points beckon so 10 points over Xmas New Year not a bad haul UTC

I thought he got it wrong as well but I also felt he should have used his squad more from the start. Some of the team looked tired in the 2nd half, no wonder with the games coming thick and fast, and he should have done at least three changes on the 60 minute mark to freshen things up. His eventual substitutions actually handed the initiative to Boro.

Can someone tell me what subs they would have preferred to have seen?
Koleosho was needed at that point, unfortunately they swapped their left back out straight away to deal with it. Good management there from wilder.
Flemming was hardly in the game, arguably I'd have swapped for foster rather than Jay, but the plan was obviously to go for it and get 2 up top late on.
Wise subs, just didn't come off.

Happy with subs but had I been Foster I might have felt a bit demotivated seeing Jay go on instead of him. Foster needs to be featuring more now hes fit, and in fairness Flemming was a little out of it last night. We move on

What is the point of having Foster on the bench. If he was not considered good enough to come on for last 30 mins last night then he never will be. Josh B and Flemming were both knackered at half time along with one or two others. Perfect chance for Foster.

Wasn't Wilder Boro manager before Carrick ? Had a spell at Watford too I think

I think he might have lasted more than 10 minutes. Think he came on in first half and was taken off in the 2nd. it was in 1 of them really drab home games in Dyche first season
