Just seen a report that the A59 is shut due to a landslide
Usual place Kex Gill, so anyone coming from my neck of the woods you’ll better set off early.
Flipping marvellous

Don’t worry it’ll only be shut for 6 months.

If I had been given a fiver for each time ‘Kex Gill’ was given a mention on local radio over the last 3-4 years, I would be a very, VERY wealthy man.

Depends where you're starting from, but I've used A69-M6, Otley, and Grassington options in past. All work fine

Thankfully don’t get on the A59 until Skipton, but lots of flooding to be seen on both the A65 and A59, with some parts of the roads only passable on one side.

Between Otley & Ilkley is particularly bad.

Yet some believe the weather warnings are nonsense.

Taken from the layby on the A650… The tarmac is literally the only thing above water between Keighley and Silsden…

North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for highways and transport, Councillor Keane Duncan, said: “Following the unplanned closure of the A59, due to the landslip on New Year’s Day, we have appointed a contractor who has been on-site to determine the level of work required.

“Unfortunately, the recent snowfall and prolonged cold spell has affected the route and resulted in a snow drift, with snow still on the bank. This has impacted on the start of works.

“It is anticipated that the worst of the weather is over, and temperatures are due to improve. Therefore, the landslip will be re-assessed, and work will start as soon as it is safe to do so.

“Given the nature of the landslip, and to reduce the risk of any future closures, our contractor plans to not only remove the landslip debris, but also install new drainage.

“We understand the impact this closure is having, and we are doing all we can to complete the works as quickly and as safely as possible. We have also installed additional ‘open as usual’ signs to help affected businesses.

“We will ensure further, regular updates are shared with residents and businesses in the immediate vicinity of Kex Gill, as well as the wider public.”
No suprises here, can’t see it being open again this season, bearing in mind past closures weren’t in the middle of winter:| :|

Let's be honest, they're gonna try and wait 'til they can open the new road.

2 weeks ago they said it would be done and completed within 2 weeks. There was no bad weather 2 weeks ago. Just like the last time if they’d have pulled their finger out and started the work at that point there wouldn’t now be another lengthy delay. The bottom line is they hadn’t got a figure of the cost involved and as usual it takes them 2 weeks to agree something. I’ve spoken to Keane Duncan and told him to stop just agreeing with the contractors and spouting their spin.I asked him on the last occasion to speak with the head of NYCC. I’ve seen a picture of the latest land slip and it’s not that bad, there is absolutely nothing to stop them shuttering it, at that point they could simply close one side and use traffic lights to open the other side. Of course they’ve now decided to add some drainage whilst doing the work. Interesting though yet again after the wrath of so many rate payers, today they’ve advised they will actually start the work tomorrow 16th and are anticipating they’ll have it done by the 29 Jan. NYCC are an absolute joke.

Don't send him to Sunderland, he'll be disappointed. 😊

From the pictures that I saw, it was only 4 wheelbarrows loads of soil 5hat had slipped, but that obviously means having various meetings of 40 people or more to decide which wheelbarrow to use and then more meetings to decide who is qualified to use the wheelbarrow on a road and then more meetings to decide where to put the soil as it may be contaminated with salt having been on a road.

Which ever route I decide to go on Friday Pateley or Otley will add another 30 minutes each way, which will test my resolve to attend further night games, especially if it’s on the telly and it’s crap weather. Certainly not missing the weeds match though.

Kex gill wants mothballing and it's high time the toffs in Ilkley get what's been coming to them in the post for the past couple of decades: A bypass right through that golf course of theirs
