Agreed. It wasn’t about him playing 38 PL games it was about having characters in the changing room and someone to lead by example. Barnes would have provided that.

My belief jedi - he was like a pied piper with those young players in the squad. The comments from Norwich are interesting of him being an important figure in their dressing room.

I think Kompany was jealous of jis popularity and knowledge.

I totally agree and think that is why he got rid of him. Kompany made some comments in Mission to Burnley that made you feel he didn't really like him. I sometimes wonder if some of the players, Zaroury for one, would have stayed if Barnes had still been here.

Having been back on the bench for Norwich in the last few games he must be fit, is it all set for a fairytale return.....

He's only started one, the game before they played us, but he's made seven substitute appearances.

It just shows the difficulty of commoditising players. On the one hand, you have an Eur18 million player who clearly doesn't want to play to the extent that the Chairman comments upon it and on the other you have a 35 year old with a mediocre scoring record who will no doubt be an asset because he provides a bit of sh*thousery and can lead a line.

Hopefully, he can teach Hannibal how to be an absolute tw*t and not get yourself sent off.

Those were my thoughts too. Personally I’m delighted to have him back. I hope in the games he gets chance to play in he makes a real difference, not only for him but for Parker too.

Kompany admitted that he thought he was a clown and then joked about the response he got when he told him he was no longer wanted at Burnley.

The fact hed made his decision to get rid half way through the seasons says it all, foolish

As others have said, he should never have been let go. I said from early on that Kompany had a problem with experienced players, with younger, more impressionable ones easier to control. Kompany’s a narcissist who cannot comprehend people having a different view to his own.

I don’t expect Barnes to be scoring goals left, right and centre but his influence on the squad and understanding of the club could prove invaluable between now and June.

Does this include Harry Kane ?

Barnes was pretty poor at the start of the Kompany season until after that poor Sunderland first half. He then seemed to cut out all the falling overs etc. and concentrated on what we know he is good at. He became a different player, an important one.

Surely that is a credit to Kompany?

There's always been a quality player there if he cut out the crap.

Buying free kicks in the PL is worth it's weight in gold. It disrupts the opposition who as often as not have better players than you and gets the team up the pitch.

I don't think Barnes would ever win Mastermind but if some of the younger player's had his football brain and nouse on the pitch we would have done a lot better last season.

He was poor at Sunderland but very definitely not at the start of the season. Played really well at Huddersfield on opening night.

A low-cost solution and a player who will be up and running very quickly.

Buying free kicks up to now in 24/25 has been absolutely pointless and just wastes time. We generally just make a short pass sideways or backwards.

I said a few years ago (and this isn’t a smug I told you so post) Barnes isn’t replaceable and we should keep him until he retired. There is always a 15min spell at the end of a game, 1-0 or 0-1 where he can come on and create havoc.

The only thing that has made me even more convinced about this is the new type of squad we have, young and largely in experienced and new to the club.

Heart will tell me, it’s been worth every penny even if I just watch him warning up in front of the gap toothed gypsys tomorrow.

I hope he brings something extra to the squad but it isn't going to be goals. Strange things happen in football and this signing is up there with the strangest. Still struggling to comprehend how Parker has sanctioned this one.
