Minutes applause tomorrow

I’ve been asked by a Rovers supporting friend (yes, I have one) to pass this message on for tomorrow’s game….”tomorrow there’ll be applause in the 42nd minute for a young woman Lisa, who died last weekend from cancer, she was only 42. It would be marvellous if both sets of fans would take part”….despite our rivalries, let’s make sure we respect the applause, 42 is no age and at this time of year it makes it all the more tragic

I went to school with Lisa, she was in the year above me. She had quite a severe disability and used sticks, yet faced life head on and tackled all challenges with courage. For her to battle through that then be taken by cancer at 42 years old is heart breaking.

RIP Lisa.

And please can we give the Jack Walker song a rest! It's cringeworthy and surely we're better than that!

Without we should do this. Nothing to do with football rivalry - this is recognition of a real life person.

Sad story Fretters. I'll be applauding tomorrow.

BTW....Have you just been booted off BRFCS.com? Someone with your name, clearly a Claret been outed and booted.

I'll be watching from afar tomorrow but will definitely give her the due respect she deserves, football rivalry really doesn't come into it and anyone who thinks differently is beyond help!

Couldn’t agree more but I live in hope rather than expectation.

I've said this on here before, but I don't like to pay my respects during the game.
My deepest sympathy to Lisa's family and friends, but I do wish that these minute applause would stop happening at football matches.
Apologies if my opinion upsets anyone.

It's a shame.... I was enjoying it!! They were jumping straight into the keep net and the posters rod had only just touched the waters surface.

Aside from the rightful applause, do B'tard fans sing, "You'll always be a B'tard", on these occasions?

Totally agree. Apparently there’s two tomorrow. Sooner or later a goal will go in during these applauses, and while I do share deepest sympathy to the deceased families, we need players to be 100% focussed on the game.

I agree about wanting these gestures to stop during the game. Lisa's family and friends have my deepest condolences too. It is very sad for someone to die so young and only someone devoid of compassion will not feel the same way.

My concern is what will happen if either team score during this minute's applause or 30-45 seconds into the 41st minute? As Gandisflipflop mentioned it will happen 1 day.

Sympathy for the young lady and her family, tragic and so young. However the Facebook driven agenda means every aspect of a person's life has to be broadcast to the maximum number of people. Football fans die all the time,it's a fact but why you have to clap someone who's died is beyond me. The in memorium at the start of the year at all clubs should suffice IMHO.

Can't remember which match it was, Luton away? But soft Vince from Padiham has died a lifelong claret the day before at 95, and we were waiting to have a minute's applause, but there were only two minutes added time so we had to go to the starkie arms afterwards and release his racing pigeons and trash his hard disk.

I thought our fans respected it well, however I think even the bstards were applause weary when the third photo went up.

Three separate minutes applause in a derby isn’t ideal.

I appreciate family and friends want to acknowledge the death of someone very special them, but during a football match isn’t the place to do it.

Only showed 2 on the screen in the fanzone and some fans took part in the applause

Fanzone was mainly respectful of the gesture, some applause) which was good.

I worked with Lisa for a few years and she was so loving, gentle and funny. A massive Rovers fan and I’m glad these minute applauses exist for people like her.

Agree we did the right thing and it was noted by their fans phoning in. Appreciated.

As these things should be.

You are right about the 3rd poor chap. I just happened to glance at the board and his picture disappeared and an advert was on screen!

Totally with you and yesterday there were two within minutes of each other. It's not something I think is appropriate.

Agree with the above. All respects should be paid at the annual "in memoriam" that most clubs have

I watched the EFL highlights package of our game (I know it’s crap), and despite the game lacking in chances, at least half of the time spent on the first half was showing the minutes applauses. Very odd and inappropriate.
