Ewood Experience

I’ve been to ewood perhaps 7 times now but today was the first time I’ve travelled over in the car. I was a bit apprehensive about where to park etc all the usual stuff. Anyway, all went well. Parked about 15 mins walk from the ground, mix of Burnley and Blackburn fans walking together after the game, no trouble. Long may it continue.
Anyone see any trouble outside the ground?
Also - shout out to Blackburn for their pre match music. Much better than what we have these days albeit a bit loud

Agreed, I parked up at The Premier Inn by Lower Darwen and the walk back to the car was uneventful, save for some idiots giving it large outside their own house a few doors up from the ground itself. A few insults shouted shortly after but everyone (aside from those in the aforementioned house) behaved like adults, which was great. Even the odd fan sporting Claret & Blue was left alone.
As for the music beforehand and at half time, I have to say it was probably about the best I've heard in a ground and I seem to recall it was the same last time before the title-winning match. Today we were treated to A Certain Ration, New Order, The Charlatans, Public Image Ltd, The Illicits excellent interpretation of Born Slippy amongst others. Can we include their DJ in our January transfer wish list please? Put the tin hat on a fantastic afternoon all round!

I've been to Ewood once. It was when the roof got ripped off in the 80S. That was a mental day out. I've avoided it since then.

That playlist was compiled by my mate Mike. He used to present the breakfast show back when it was 2BR. He knows his music. Still works at Ewood on match days. So has no choice but to watch us beat them.
If you search "Blackburn Rovers Official Playlist" I think it'll come up on Spotify.

My first and probably ladt trip to Ewoid (only because of the miles and previously needing to board a coach).
Definitely enjoyed the experience. Parked in Swan Farm Close, just off Branch Road. Walked ok both ways. Stopped for sausage and chips and all good.
I saw one idiot (I think theirs but could easily have been one of ours( getting manhandled and told to move on by a big policeman. Nothing else.
I do not like the Jack Walker nasty song being sung around me, nor grown men up to about 60 years old doing w anker signs with a very odd face! If they could see what they look like!
The crowd equivalent of a keyboard warrior!
Today I have driven from Stirling to Salisbury, so the 3 points made it worthwhile.

As above, we parked at The Premier Inn just off the motorway for £3. No issues at all walking to or from the ground. Got home about 45 minutes after the final whistle so no enforced bus trip etc……..Good to hear nearly everyone respecting the mid match respectful applause for departed Rovers fans………..a few near us tried the Jack Walker song, but it didn’t get any real momentum, so all in all a good day all round……….

Parked in Lower Darwen and walked to the ground with no trouble
Lots of police , including a lot doing absolutely nothing
I enjoyed seeing so many Old Bill in the ground because Rovers pay for them
They needed no more Police for the upper tier.
The vindictiveness and Jealousy the club showed to us wasn’t transmitted to their fans
They know their place… Mind TheGap

A mate showed me his plate of food he got in their hospitality and he was furious.
Next to nowt on it.
He got well ripped off.
He paid the stupid price to guarantee himself a ticket, so just glad we won.

Sadly my experience was not so good. I have watched Burnley home and away for over 45 years and never had any trouble.
After the game my son and I aged 59 and 14 were walking up Bolton Road to our car. Just before we got to the fork in the road before the garage. Two blokes and a women were walking down towards the ground. One of the men dressed in white tshirt black jeans and black jacket barbers into me and the second simply punched me in the face.
Either his ring or my teeth went through my lip. Causing lots of blood and facial damage. The two cowards rang off towards the ground. Two police who didn’t see anything then assisted me. All the other Blackburn supports we helpful and I would like to thank two residents of a house on oak field road or Finsbury place for helping me clean up. Sorry I didn’t get your names I was a bit shocked.
After a few hours in A and E I made it home at 7-30. I travel from lincs to most games so it was a long journey in some discomfort.
Not a good experience for my 14 year old either.
So a big shout out to the two Blackburn cowards to punch a man simply making his way home with his son. One day you will get the same and much worse back. You pathetic cowards.
Any way well done Burnley 3 points in the bag let’s push on and get promotion.

Police were not helpful at all really, they did make a token effort and to be fair the two idiots merged in pretty well with everyone else. I have to call the police this morning but I doubt they have been able to find anything.
Guess it’s just one of those things that can happen at local derby when dealing with idiots. A bit like a gang of hooligans travelling from Holland calling themselves ZWB Zwolle. Crazy but most clubs have a few loonies. The normal Blackburn supports in the houses were very helpful and apologetic

Sorry to hear that Graham, unfortunately there are always a few (within both support) who are just a little bit dense. Hope your son is ok too; can't have been pleasant for him to experience at all?!
I chose to get the train to Darwen, from Colne, as I was meeting friends there. We walked to and from the game and had no problems at all. Careful what we talked about when within crowds and didn't have colours on.

My first visit to Deadwood was 1963, my first ever away game. We won 2-1 and were in that terrible Town End. Rotting, stinking concrete structure. Fred Pickering was playing, think he scored? He was a great goalscorer, despite always being popped-up. If you look him up on wiki his goals ratio is great, even at the end with Blackpool when he was also knackered.I think Connelly got one of ours and possibly a young Willie Irvine?

He may well have played some Joy Division too during the build up to the title-winning match, but I missed any he might have played yesterday - plus Panic! by The Smiths, must have been before I arrived (I think?!) Tell him to feel free to play a bit of Deja Vega - a band I've followed for a few years now, top lads from Winsford, recording their 3rd album as I type and they're superb, especially live. I think you were unlucky, GJ. I think they are the kind of ignoramuses who would do that regularly, film it and run away. Scrotes should be squeezed until they turn blue and white with all the squealing.
Glad you got home OK.
Personally, a thank you to all the other East Lancs locals who were regular human beings. (They may have some odd habits and think we do too, but that aside, I would stand in a trench with them, like our forefathers).

Graham, really sorry to hear about your awful experience. It should be classed as a GBH but if the scumbags were ever caught, it would probably be downgraded to an ABH.
Talking of the Elwood Experience, I have a story from my time when I was in the cops, on that dreadful evening when B@stards had won the Premier League. I was told that I was being shipped over to Blackburn with a colleague to provide extra cover in the town centre. We were told by our bosses that we weren’t there to make arrests but to provide a presence.
I can remember being stood in a shop doorway while all around, you could hear the celebrations going on including the anti Burnley songs. To say I was feeling miserable was a massive understatement.
Then, a taxi driver pulled up next to us and walked across the road to a kebab shop. He’d left his engine running and right before our eyes, this drunken B@stards fan jumped in and started kangarooing the taxi up the road and stalled it on a kerb on the far side of the road.
At this point, I turned to my colleague and said something like.”F—k this,I’m not bothered what the Chief Super said, I’m having him.”
And I did. I wasn’t popular when I brought the idiot into custody but it made me feel slightly better on what had been such a horrendous tour of duty.
Think he was taken to court and given a small fine. And happily, that was my last time I had to work in Blackburn.

What a cowardly attack. I posted on a thread a few days ago about the number of Police on duty etc.
I have to say I was surprised by the lack of Police outside the ground on the way back to the car yesterday, I parked in Lower Darwen and the way back was tense, but thankfully no trouble apart from a big fat guy, who lived in one of the houses abusing people from his garden.
My friend as posted on the thread I mentioned above, works for the Police, if you give me a time, and location of the incidents I'll see if there's anything he can do.

Hi Graham. I assure you my comment of not wearing colours wasn't a dig at you; you should be able to and not expect to be attacked. I think, over the years, I've just erred on the side of caution so don't wear colours at any away game now.
One of my Liverpool supporting friends got punched by a City fan a few weeks ago. He fell and hit his head on a curb causing an injury to his head which required over 50 stiches. He was lucky not to have died. One cowardly punch can be fatal and I sincerely hope they catch the thug who hit you. He needs locking up!!

Sorry to hear of your experience and hope you are ok. You should be able to wear colours regardless.
For it to happen so near the ground is not good given that is where all the police were.
We parked at Premier Inn as well and too had no problems but I was surprised by the lack of police. We didn't see any in a 20 mins walk both ways after about where you said the incident occurred. We just mingled in and had no colours.
Given the area where we parked was the obvious place for Burnley fans I expected to see a few police dotted about.

I agree about the lack of police after the game. I was parked on a side road off Jack Walker Way, I passed one traffic cop who was stood at the roundabout at the Furnhurst. All them coppers on duty and I passed just one on the 10 to 15 min walk back to car.

It’s a double edged sword really. Too many police and outward aggression and they’re accused of being too heavy handed and inciting trouble; too few and they’re inviting violence by their non-presence.
Personally. I thought every copper and steward I had any interaction with yesterday was friendly, welcoming, helpful and even happy to engage in a bit of friendly banter. A far cry from my experience at some locations, South Yorkshire probably being the worst example.

Graham, I’m really sorry you were involved in this cowardly act and like everyone else I hope those responsible are found and pay the price.
So good to hear that some Blackburn fans and residents were quick to offer you help.
This hatred needs to stop. There is nothing wrong with rivalry, which is how it used to be. At the end of the day we are similar groups of people but from two different towns.
Besides yourself, I hope your son is ok. That’s not what a 14 year old should be seeing.

19 October apologies. Despite possibly being at fault for Pickering's back headed goal, the Burnley Express made Adam Blacklaw MOTM, stating that some of his saves even drew applause from Rovers players!
