Keith Treacy on the positive impact Sean Dyche had on him at Burnley during his battle with alcohol addiction.

Keith Treacy has been speaking about positive impact that Sean Dyche had upon him during his time at Burnley.

I think quite a lot of us know this already, but it’s so nice to see an up-to-date interview, most importantly, with Keith looking to be in good shape and doing well for himself. There was clearly a bloody talented footballer in Trecy, but before that, health always comes first.

We were so blessed to have Sean Dyche at our club for such a sustained period.

LEGS; HEARTS; MINDS!!!!

Good to see him looking so well. Hope it's a true reflection of his actual health and welbeing.

And gotta love his pronunciation of "Doish". :D

Aye, as alluded to, but I think (although can’t be certain), this video seems to show him in what appears to be, much better health.

I remember when we signed Treacy from Preston and their then manager Phil Brown gave an interview to Radio Lancs basically saying that Eddie Howe wouldn't be able to manage him and it was the wrong move. So it proved.

I'd like to think some people who constantly criticise Sean Dyche might listen to that and begin to understand what he's like as a man and what he did for BFC.

....and those of us who regard Sean Dyche as the driving force that changed the standing and fortunes of Burnley FC just think, "No surprises there".

Well I do anyway.

Howe doesn't have time for people who don't dedicate themselves which makes me doubt the Treacy signing was his.

My memory might be playing tricks on me, but wasn't Treacy signed at what was considered a " bargain " £750k, in a rushed deal. Preston had a cash-flow issue and we agreed to pay the £750k all at once " up front ", rather than the installment basis, on which most transfers are based.

A talented player, who certainly had his demons ... it's good to see him looking so well !

He’s in the studio, over here, for the European leagues games. He talks a lot of sense as well as looking fitter than most ex-pros.

Thinking about it, this kind of thing is what we are losing with the current head coach model. It's all well and good having a head coach and DOf etc but we lose put on managers like that this who's main strength is how they manage people.

It's the players who will lose out, they won't have those 'father figures' anymore

I’m not sure if that holds up. In theory, wouldn’t a head coach have more time to dedicate to their players, if their role is narrower?

From what I’ve seen, heard and gleaned from interviews, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Parker is the sort of bloke that would be pretty good at understanding and supporting his players. He comes across as a genuinely decent bloke to me.

Sure but that's only part of it isn't it. Coaches now are being employed solely based on playing style a lot of the time, especially at the top level. They are obsessed with football and the tactics but don't seem as bothered about the people side of it.
Just as an example, Rashford has been crying out for someone with proper managerial skills, regardless of what style he plays.

I'm still convinced that Big Sam should still be given opportunities to manage rather than some of the crap that gets brought in on short term deals. Current southampyon managaer is probably the latest.

Fully agree with you, DCWat.

Either SP is a damn good actor or, and it's what I believe, he has spent six months talking a great deal with our players. His message will be backed up by the older players (Jay, Worrall, the three Joshes and now Barnsey). I think he cares about his players and has created strong bonds with them in a very short space of time.

Oh ffs, of course there's exceptions. It's not a criticism of Scott Parker quite obviously. He does look good at the management side.

Dyche, from the sounds of things, was very good with Treacy and at a human level that should be commended.

At a purely professional level, we should remember it ended in failure though. He managed to get Treacy on the pitch a few times during the promotion season sure, but then when the carrot was there to come back and get properly right for a golden ticket to the Premier League, that opportunity was passed up. Pure football pragmatists (and I am not saying this is my view) would argue he wasn't worth the time and effort.

I am wary that this story always becomes a Dyche vs Howe story, too. Dyche good and Howe bad. Life isn't as simple as that.

Brilliant from Sean Dyche. Keith Treacy needed help and others would have also witnessed that the manager cared about them as men.

I am sure Keith Treacy still shouts out, "Come on Boynli" to this day.

But there are coaches, Directors of Football and "managers".
Many cant actually manage people and I imagine at a football club to be a good manager you know how to use the carrot and stick and these will be different for different players.
It seems to me that SD had most of what it takes to man manage people at a football club.

If you listen to the interview that Treacy has done, he suggests there was no carrot. Dyche said he wanted him but the board had said no and the best he could offer was to come back and train and he’d see what he could do.

Parker was asked recently about this and said his job is no different to as it was at Fulham and Bournemouth when he was manager.

Sean Dyche is a good man manager. He has handled some 'problem?' players very well.

CT - the 'carrot' was for Treacy to come back in the best shape of his life in pre season and win a new deal. He didn't.

Used to love watching Treacey - always thought anything could happen when he was on the ball!

His words on Dyche come as no surprise, and I think Parker has a similar man management approach. Business on the pitch is all well and good, but we’re humans first of all. UTC!

Yes - rocket into the top corner

2-1 defeat - Mee and Edgar had a torrid time as a CB pairing

I'm not saying anything other than what was said by him in that interview that Dyche told him there was no deal because the directors wouldn't offer him one but if he came back for pre-season then he would try and get him one. If that's not the case, and I was told that ten years ago as fact, then it's KT who is saying it wrong, not me.
