Bauress / McDermott

Give yourselves a pat on the back, both played really well and showed some real quality on the ball. I would not be against Bauress getting some minutes in the league at the end of games when appropriate. It was 'only Reading' but he suited our style of play and looked ready to go for me.

Yep, agree! Lovely pass from Bauress to Tresor for the first Flemming goal, and they didn’t put a foot wrong to be fair to them! Unlikely to see them in the Championship though I suspect.

Not sure you could have asked much more against a strong League One side.

Both were excellent. I thought, overall, McDermott was slightly more influential but, as said above, Bauress involved well for the second goal.

Can only be a positive that two youngsters can look very comfortable on the ball and not out of place at all. Well done lads!!

They both looked like they should be loaned out to League One, both did well.

I'm so, so pleased for them. Tommy McDermott has only been with us for a year but has continually impressed me. As for Joe Bauress, I saw him play in the youth team at probably 15, come through to the under-21s and then lose over a year to a cruciate. To come back and get this chance is brilliant for him.

Not only involved with the second goal with that lovely pass inside the defender, but an assist on the first goal too,

I thought both were great and complimented each other well.

Bauress would be a natural replacement for Cullen imo, very similar type players. Where as McDermott is very much in the Brownhill mould.

I didn’t see as much as I’d have liked due to my streams not holding out very well. I was really impressed with what I did see.

No mean feat two young lads coming in and contributing so well. Hopefully they can both stay in and around the first team and gain some
More minutes here and there.

Ah yes, course. With it being a little scrappy I forgot it was Bauress who clipped it in :)

Just so chuffed for two young lads. They should be really proud with their performances.

Didn't do anything wrong and both contributed well. I think they should both be proud of their efforts today and kick on from here to press for a place.

Absolutely love it when a youngster breaks through to the first team, we don’t have a great record but in fairness we are have spent the best part of the last 15 years in the worlds toughest leagues with a tiny youth budget.

How many former clarets youth team players are knocking around in the football league these days? Dunne? O’Neil? Or did we pick them up later when they were 18/19?

Both have done no more than start one game but have done enough to deserve more. Nothing I enjoy more than seeing young players breaking into the first team.

Agreed Tony. Would love to see more coming through. Both lads today handled themselves superbly. Hopefully with Chris Casper at the helm of the academy we’ll start to see some improvement in terms of progression to first team. (Would save us a ton on transfer fees!)

Bauress was excellent throughout.

McDermott did well for his first start as well. Just thought it passed him by a bit more second half but thats not a slight on him, he did a good job overall.

Not taking anything away from such a positive but would see much more potential for us in Bauress. Thought he, in particular, was excellent.

Both had excellent games but for people to be suggesting they should be playing for mid table championship clubs as they are on X is abit soon. It’s one game against reading (who I thought were poor today) in the cup, what a way to kill young talent by piling loads of pressure on them by involving them in a promotion battle

Thought both were excellent. As ag has alluded, we couldn’t have asked for more against a decent calibre of lower league cup opposition.

Both lads played with Intelligence , composure & confidence and should rightly be proud of their performance today.
McDermott only been in less than a year having been bought at 18 from Port Vale who he'd played a couple of 1st team games for.
Baurass has been at the club from 8 year old and it's all very positive for the Academy reputation to see players getting chances and doing well.

Both were excellent today - well done to them both as it could quite easily have gone wrong with both of them holding the midfield for us.

There was a lovely little lofted/dinked pass by McDermott with the outside of his left foot that put Koleosho away in the box in the first half. Very classy pass.

It would be brilliant for either of them to get minutes on the pitch before the end of the season. If they do, then it shows that the academy is working.

Now would probably a good time to get them out on loan. Teams will hopefully have more confidence in them having shown they can do it against League 1 opposition.

The midfield is the absolute heart of any side, for us to play two youngsters and fill them full of confidence to deliver on that stage is a credit to Burnley Football Club. Must have been an amazing day for both of them, well played lads. 👏👏👏

Both really good. McDermott looks so good on the ball. Great touch and a wand of a left foot. Really hope they break into the first team soon. Parker must see the talent in them to start them both in central midfield. We pinged it around wonderfully first half

They literally didn't touch the ball for the first 15 minutes. Off topic, but we are blessed with some superb centre backs as well. Worrall did very well defensively... distribution less convincing and Ekdal looked very composed when he came on. Spoilt for choices.

Did you watch it ? McDermott was spraying 30 yard passes and flicked the ball over 2 of their players head and found a pass. Bauress grew into the game.

Agree defence is the he best group in the league bar none

They should both be quite proud of themselves, and I’m sure their families are too. That ball from Bauress was a cracker, but I particularly liked McDermott’s style of play and total composure on the ball. He’s a real battler who I can only liken to Brownhill in our current starting 11. A great touch and awareness too.

Both will likely have strong futures in the game I would think.

Pretty sure that the "they" referred to in me01jh's post as not touching the ball in the first 15 minutes is referring to Reading, not the two new lads. That first 15-20 minutes was very easy on the eye.

For them to make their full debuts and play that well against a strong Reading midfield is an absolute credit to them both. I thought they were fantastic. They complemented each other well, communicated superbly and Bauress was still showing for the ball in the 120th minute.

Over the moon for both of them!

Both were absolutely brilliant. It was amazing to see two young lads comfortable in asking for the ball and getting out of tricky spaces. Showed no nerves and should be immensely proud of how they did today.

After watching the Sunderland and Leeds struggle with a fair few of their first 11 playing, makes it even more amazing that we have played an 18 and 19 year old in middle of the park today for the full game plus extra time (although McDermott went off after the first half of ET) and won whilst also making 11 changes.

I'd think it must be a great boost for all our U21s, to see some first team success for a couple of team mates. It shows the pathway is open for all, if they show the grit and talent.

So glad we're looking to get that Cat 1 back, Corky and the rest of the coaches deserve a big pat on the back as well.

Today he been a good day which could prove significant in various ways, but this really could be as significant a story as any. It's a long time since we've brought a couple of players through at the same time and it would appear here we've two who have every chance of breaking through together.

Long way to go and they will have ups and downs, but the promise is great to see and I gather there are a few other talents in the current u21 crop.

I often go into the Fanzone before home games and glance at the board that shows the youth team players who have made their debuts.

I’m not sure it’s fully up to date, but it’s startling how few players we’ve brought through in the last 20 years.

Hopefully that’s about to change.

Thought they were both sensational and looked as if they were very much part of the first team. I think Reading realised the influence they were both having and tried to snuffle them out but they kept going
