How good it is to hear a manager not whinging because things didn’t go his way Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris said it was smart what JT did because he won the psychological battle with Isidor, that is a honest assessment of what happened. The referee is the one to blame he wasn’t strong enough and JT brilliantly took advantage

Agree 100%. Also something I haven’t seen mentioned that unlike a number of teams that have been to the Turf this season Sunderland came and played football rather than park the bus.

What should the ref have done? Do you think a red card was warranted?

Players feign injury and waste time all over the pitch - the keeper does it and it’s a big issue. If Martinez had done it, it would all have been part of him being the best keeper in the world nonsense. Trafford bent the rules- just the same as every player that pushes or shirt-pulls at a corner.

A Sunderland report about Parker and Le Bris post match interviews..
https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/f ... t-30814877
I personally thought Parker was a class act in the post match interviews and didn't berate the officials.
I trust Parker to be as honest as the day is long.

Martinez twice voted FIFA best GK and he is s*** housing teams every week.

I've seen a few times over the weekend about Sunderland feeling they dropped two points having outplayed us, particularly in the second half apparently.
Statistically, we had more possession throughout the game and Sunderland may have looked the better side in the second half but they only had three shots on target throughout the whole game and two of them were those penalties, so only one from open play.
Perhaps not quite as good as they think they were.

Sunderland fans moaning about time wasting and **** housing only need to look at Luke O'Nein's performance the last time they came to the Turf

It was the same at the SoL. We all know how poor we were but apart from their winning goal Trafford had very little to do.

Who knows what that ref would’ve/should've done. He could’ve booked JT on the first pen. Then the second he doesn’t do it. Therefore very unlikely it would ever get to a red card.

"Burnley have only conceded nine goals all season, on this occasion it was nothing to do with how good their defensive unit was and all to do with Sunderland’s failure to score."
It had everything to do with how good the defensive unit was - Trafford is part of it and he stopped them scoring.

It's a bit of both of course.
Egan-Riley's superb block when it looked a certain goal was great defending. Ignoring the penalties (although Isidor would have had a real good goal scoring chance in the first incidence), if Isidor had been a bit sharper they would have won. We didn't create anything like the two/three opportunities he had.

Apart from Fleming's two absolute sitters in the second half.

The “possession” statistic can be very misleading. It’s all very well having the ball - but what matters is what you do with it. We’ll never score passing sideways or backwards in our own half.

It still doesn't take away the fact that Sunderland, for all their bluster, only managed 3 shots on target, just 1 from open play.

And even Connor Roberts managed to have 1 on target from an open play situation!

I think the game up at Sunderland illustrated that like us they haven’t got a top quality top end finisher and we are both in the same boat as the Blades whose top scorers are Hamer and Campbell with six apiece.
I guess that’s why we are all in for Cannon.

This is true, but not a very useful statistic. They hit the post with arguable the clearest chance of the game (penalties aside) and were denied what looked to be a certain goal by an excellent block from CJER.

Clearest chance of the game was early second half when Fleming miskicked 8 yards out in the centre of the goal.

Under modern terminology, the shot that Egan-Riley stopped was not a shot on target.

It wasn't, it was the Sunderland chance a minute later. From memory Flemming's had about a 1 in 7 success rate.
