We need someone who can pass through the low blocks and Shelvey can. He also scores some screamers.

Laurent against the teams we 'should' be beating I would suggest, if he's fit enough to be starting. That's no slight on Laurent in the slightest I just think we really need some creativity from the middle to help us against the sides that just sit in (i.e, almost every team that isn't the rest of the top 4).

Gives us something different and as a deal until the end of the season it seems a no brainer.

For all the attributes of our current midfielders, the ability to hit a quick switch of play or strike a ball from distance are lacking. Hopefully will prove to be an inspired bit of business.

I would imagine Laurent will start but Shelvey will replace him at some stage

Quick bit of useless trivia...

Shelvey is married to Daisy Evans, a former member of S Club 8 who were formerly known as S Club Juniors.

Is there anything about the deal being extended past the end of the season based on games played or anything? Or is it just a straight 6 months deal

Definitely offers something different to what we have, can't see any problem with a short term deal.

Great signing. Low risk until end of season. Adds passing and nous. I would start him immediately for Laurent even if that means dropping Brownhill back.

Hope he’s not on big books as can’t see him starting many game unless parker just chucks him in

We've shown flexibility in signing him, no consideration to future value just get someone in we need.

Whether he can still do anything none of us can likely say, but he was a very talented player.

Quite happy with Shelvey. An eye for a goal and quite creative from the centre of the park.

Imagine it will be Cullen and him that will rotate?

not necessarily a starter - but a useful option to bring on if things are not going to plan for one of Laurent, Hannibal, Brownhill or Cullen?

Take Brownhill out of the team we get virtually no goals from midfield so this makes sense. Lets hope he hits the ground running

We have not had a free kick specialist since Steven Defour, and other than Fleming's long shot/goal recently, we have been woeful.Hopefully JJ when on the pitch takes all free kicks and corners. We have someone now who can also hit a killer pass and shoot from outside the box

I just don’t see it. He’s hardly played recently and his stats are rubbish. 20 goals and 26 assists in the last 9 years.

When he was younger he had more creativity than our current three midfielders put together, how much of that he has lost with age I don`t know but 32/33 isn`t that old he will just need some younger legs to win the ball for him so he can deliver the killer balls for our forwards to run onto we really do need, Kevin McDonald was really the last one I feel we had with that talent, In SP we trust ;)

Judging from his interview he has a real purpose for doing well for us-I will not be surprised if he plays a significant part in our next 3-4 months. Always feared him if Burnley were playing against him

IF he’s fit, can still offer what he used to do, it’s not a bad signing, though it feels like a bit of a gamble.

It is low risk in one sense, in another, it’s quite high risk if he isn’t able to deliver - the cost of failing to get promoted could be far greater than being prepared to spend on some younger quality.

We now have more than enough (easy to argue, too many) ‘older heads’. How many minutes are Shelvey, Rodriguez, Barnes, Worrall, Egan, Redmond going to play, are we really going to get value in terms of contribution on the pitch from what will be significant wages, between them all?

We now need to add some real quality that will allow us to score some bloody goals. We have far too many in our squad that for one reason or another are contributing the square root of **** all.
