Bench is starting to look very strong. Not sure about Sarmiento starting, but good to see Shelvey and Benny back.

Will we finally see foster up top, Flemming in the 10 and Sarmiento on the left, or will it just be Sarmiento for Browhill, straight swap?

Struggling to work out which is our home grown player in that squad - has that rule changed now?

Anyone with knowledge on this?

Supposed to be one player through our system between 18-21 isn’t there? Previously Dodgson and J-Rod in match days squads

So, this home grown rule in the match day squad, that several posters mentioned was obviously BS then!

We keep having this discussion, isn’t James Trafford classed as home grown along with Humphreys?

Egan-Riley must be then too if that's the rule!

Brownhill has looked like he could do with a rest, and took a knock last time out. Hopefully it is just that.

None of Trafford CJ or Bash can be considered homegrown as far as I understand the rule as they have to come through your own system for three years - happy to be told otherwise - unless tits CJ as he’s in his third season with us and that counts maybe?

In all three EFL leagues, clubs have to name at least seven home grown players among their matchday squad for any one game.

Clubs also need to name at least one club developed player in their matchday squad; if they don't, they must name one fewer player on their bench.

As we touched on earlier, a maximum of five loanees can be named in any one matchday squad - or four, if one of them is an emergency goalkeeper loan.

Breaking any of these rules can lead to sanctions against the club.

It’s one club developed player has to be in the match day squad, unless Egan Riley classes as that

Strong bench indeed. By my reckoning there’s 6 with PL experience.

As strong as we could be with Brownhill out. Plenty of options on the bench if needed. Fingers crossed we get off to a quick start.

Come on you Clarets

Must have one club developed player in the matchday squad. Club developed is any player who was at the club for 'at least 12 months prior to the end of his Under 19 season' i.e. anyone who was signed to the club for at least a year as a teenager even if they were out on loan.

It'll be Egan-Riley, he was 19 when we signed him.
‘Club Developed Player’ means a Player who has been registered with the relevant
Club for a minimum of 12 months prior to the end of his Under 19 Season (as
determined in accordance with the Youth Development Rules).

Koleosho & Agyei would also qualify if and when picked.

Egan Riley was 19 when he signed but turned 20 the following January so if that's the rule he doesn't qualify as homegrown.

Have we made a massive cock up here?

Just a midfield two of Cullen and Laurent is a bit risky for an away game given Parkers normal defensive shape
Hope to see Sarmiento wide left as he is definitely not a No 10

34.11 Club Developed Players. Subject to Regulation 34.12, for League Matches which take
place after the submission of the Club’s Squad List following the closure of the
Summer Transfer Window, each Club shall be required to nominate at least one Club
Developed Player on either the Squad List, or on the Team Sheet for all League
Matches (including Play Off Matches). Where a Club does not name a Club Developed
Player on either it’s Squad List or Team Sheet, the Club will only be permitted to name
up to eight (Championship) or six (League One and Two) substitutes on the Team Sheet
(rather than the nine (Championship) or seven (League One an Two) as permitted by
Regulation 34.4).

That says squad list or team sheet so they don't have to be named in the matchday squad.

It literally says if you don’t name one then you can only name 8 subs, so someone in the matchday squad today must be classed as club developed and it can only be Egan Riley

It doesn't say matchday squad. It says squad list which is the list of 25 that goes in.

Completely agree. I would have thought Hannibal (or Shelvey) for the absent Brownhill was the obvious move. Parker getting brave (or reckless??) We'll see!

According to Pompy fans, all they do is go down the wings and cross it. Do we need three in midfield if they don't play there? :D

For matches ‘squad list’ means match day squad and team sheet means starting 11 doesn’t it

Happy to be wrong, hopefully the club haven’t made a cock up

I heard a radio programme on this last week ,they implied that the home grown player rule is based on that a club must use players who are home grown in there country not necessarily at there club for the full time, until 21.
There should be at least 8 players who have qualified as home grown in every team of 25 players. The article said that Greg Duke wanted it to be a lot stronger on the idea that they should be at the same club from 15 to 18 but did not get that passed
